Raiders 2016

Recommended Posts

I presume the decisions have been made as all training has been suspended whilst work is being carried out on the track and safety fence.

Either that or it's likely to be a late decision.

Decision made back in December like it was last year with race suits already measured and ordered. The pop along to the training school is just a money making exercise to exploit the hopes of some riders.

Huge nail in the coffin of the Raiders season. Im very surprised Paul Hurry would publically associate himself with a rider of limited abilities.

Also a dreadful shame for any rider who has actually put in time and effort trying to attain a place then sees it go to a rider who just wants to do Speedway because a few of his grasstrack mates are.

With the last two riders to be picked from the training school.those who had a place last season in any team, but have yet to gain one this season ,should all get down to Rye to try and impress for a team spot ,,Smart move by Rye to see what is available..Lets hope one or two of them can improve on previous efforts ?

That didn't last too long. Named the first reserve a week later

I can never understand why so many British riders don't make the grade when they get encouragement like this from supporters.

Reject? Kent's press release didn't seem to me to be a rejection.

No sense in this post. More reeks of kicking a kid before he even gets on a bike for the season. If a Rye House kid leaves us i wish him and his new club well. The comment about wanting to do speedway because of a few grass track mates is pretty poor. Probably at this stage of Len Silvers career the boy is better off at Rye rather than Kent

Couldn't agree more. Never understand why British youth are kicked in the teeth by so called supporters of Speedway

Perhaps I was a little harsh but from what I have seen so far there is little to get excited about but as ever im happy to be proved wrong. I wasn't impressed when he rode at Kent and ive seen nothing of his Grasstrack work to get excited about.

That said he must go around Rye House alright and if you can master that then he clearly has some ability.

I look forward to the meeting at Kent and no doubt will go up to Rye a few times to see how the team is getting on.

Imagine as a young kid learning the ropes, all the effort and expense you and your parents put into racing, all the injuries and the pain that goes with it and then you come on here and read this..

Perhaps but this is an adult league and the sport is cruel at all levels. I would never criticise a youth rider but if you step into the senior leagues you get treated like everyone else by me.

I am full of admiration for the effort, time and money that riders and riders families especially at lower levels invest into the sport but it is done for their own benefits.

If I was brutally honest I would say to any youngster do it if you enjoy it but beware it is a brutal sport full or underhand dealing and false PR. Your average will be attractive one day and unsignable the next. A team place is an opportunity but there is always somebody looking to replace you.

If I was to give a young kid any advice it would be "don't take any notice of experts on forums"

Agreed. If any rider young or old is likely to take offence / a knock to their confidence its best to keep clear of the forums altogether.

They are here for debate & exchange of opinions. Any comment I make is based solely on my opinion at that moment in time and with information garnished from various sources.

I hope our section of the forum isn't going down the road of the Elite section, don't even bother to read it now with all the bickering and pointless arguments on there. I'm an Easty fan and having watched 15 years of Elite and 1 of NL, it was so refreshing to see better racing, new riders like George Wood coming from nowhere and far better conversations on the NL forum. Surely this league is all about finding the likes of Conner Locke, giving the lad a chance and not writing him off before he starts?

As a sportsperson you should be ready to receive criticism regardless of age or ability. No need to be over dramatic and say that words on a forum hold back careers though.

I'll judge the kid when I see him on a bike personally.

Depends if the criticism is valid, Lets be honest this sounds like bitterness from a man who's club Connor walked away from - not that you can blame him

Can't blame him for wanting away and finding himself a team place. Certainly not bitter but perhaps disappointed and more with Rye House than the actual rider. Im a big fan of serving an apprenticeship, gaining experience and earning a place over the gambling on riders because of their age.

Its my opinion that there are several riders more deserving of a reserve spot than Locke but the promotion have taken the decision and that's that.
