catinthehat
Sorry but I fail to believe Connor "Commercial Director" Dugard is giving all his time up for free. Im not questioning the time and effort he puts in but the eternal cynic in me suspects any director will be getting a decent wage plus expenses. Hope Brum can win by 8+ on the night to set up an exciting return match at Arlington. Connor and Martin both give there time for free, Connor works for himself and Martin works for the family engineering company in Brighton, both together give there time for free. But i am sure there will be a reward somewhere in respect and a trophy. But 100% they dont take a wage from the speedway.
Jonny the spud
Lets look at it in a different light, Cost at a guess for both teams home and away. Rent for Birmingham Stadium as its a nice stadium with all the equipment (£2000) Graham Dury to run speedway per meeting £250 and away £250 = (£500) Birmingham riders all turn up each meeting with a new tyre on home and away, £40 x 7 = £560 riders pay for a meeting for 45 points (£1000) riders travel at a guess £500 BSPA, Insurance, Medical cover (£1200) cost for Birmingham (£5760) Rent for Eastbourne Stadium with all the equipment (£1000) Martin and Connor Dugard to run speedway (free) Eastbourne riders all turn up each meeting with a new tyre on home no away £40 x 7 = £280 riders pay for a meeting for 45 points (£1000) riders travel at a guess £650 (add Spillers flights at an average of £150) we know there are cheaper ones (£45) Easyjet Gatwick, Stanstead. BSPA, Insurance, Medical cover (£1200) cost for Eastbourne (£4130) Eastbourne save £1630 on Birmingham? so cant see how the difference is that it comes down to money, Location of the staduim is the difference, more money as its a better stadium, means more people means more money in. Birmingham must have the money? Dugard are giving there time for free and seems to make it work, Good luck to them if they bring Spiller in, i bet it will be little Spiller next year? Who can blame them. Who cares what Ellis is being paid, he turns up every meeting races his heart and and he is the best in the league and he should get paid top money, there is alway a way around paying riders. ie sponsorship or van, bike parts, so on so on. Roll on tonight i cant wait to read the updates. Eastbourne to win at Birmimingham on the night by 2 points Eastbourne to win at home by 12 on Saturday. Birmingham do not supply Adam's van. It comes from France.

Or is it that they don't get tyres for one of the meetings and have to use old ones...or...well I just don't get this at all...please explain. Eastbourne only get supplied new tyres by the club for home meetings & have to supply their own for away matches. Brum get a new tyre each whether it be home or away. Both are better deals than many teams offer.

Sings4Speedway
Rear Tyres are one of the many great Speedway rip offs! From memory the end seller (spares van etc) has to purchase them from an approved source at a price which is set in stone (as currently only Mitas can be used) a little mark up is added on each sale although a portion of the sale of each tyre has to be sent to the SCB so after trips to collect them etc there is no financial benefit of actually stocking them to the spares vans its just part of their expected service. uk_martin
So the SCB "taxes" tyre sales? Are they legally constituted to do that? Is the SCB tax before or after VAT?

Brummie Kev
Well Done Eastbourne, good performance and unless a miracle happens Sunday you will win the trophy. Been a good season for both our clubs this year, and hope to see the Eagles back at Perry Barr in the NL.
blueherb777
I do not know if this is a first - but I have never seen it. The Daily Mail had the result of this meeting today. I have never seen a fixture or result from a National League meeting in the Mail.
catinthehat
wonder if the producer of the paper is an Eastbourne fan or a Cradley fan and happy to see Birmingham loose at home, Good news for speedway if the Nl starts to get a mention in the mail.

Brian Buck
Many congratulations to Eastbourne on their deserved win at Perry Barr last night. The Eagles have built a fine team this season and had they started the campaign with the same seven that they have now, they are unlikely to have lost more than the odd match. The Brummies made a good comeback from arrears of 12 points last night, but Eastbourne were always the better team, and there was an especially impressive performance from Georgie Wood - a real racer! Well done Eastbourne. I hope we can give you a good meeting in the return, but in all honesty it is a mountain to climb for us.
