Unfortunatly. Most fans thought they were well worth having and attracted decent attendances.

Quite agree and I'm a fan of doing the qualifiers. I regularly raised it at the AGM, but it was voted out by the far Southern teams Exeter, Newport, Reading, etc. They cited that bigger crowds didn't happen, and remember all riders are heat leader status with the appropriate higher points payments. It was proposed that the Northern teams hold the qualifiers, and the Southern teams select there representatives in a different way, but that was not accepted as the selection process for the finals had to be the same for all. Alternative was of course to charge more for these more expensive meetings but that might not have been accepted by a lot of fans.

Personaly I don't like the way the Final is run now,2 rides and you could be on your way home the riders can't be too keen IMO .A 16 heat final with 4 Teams on a neutral track would be better IMO .Redcar meeting seemed to go down well.

Redcar did go down very well. and was amazingly well attended. The outside road, and the car park to the gokart centre, were full as was all of the mini stands and bar terracing. Redcar fans did turn up against all views that they would boycott it. Craik was quite good with the Redcar fans, due to us being last.

The northern teams could have their own tournament, but how far South Would be the cut off point?

Ironically, I don't know if you noticed, but the three teams that I quoted opposing the qualifiers all have one thing in common.

I hope fixture planning is a priority this winter. I understand the season has always had a traditional late end but leavings gaps of a week or two between league end and play offs really kills the momentum of what play offs are about IMO.

I would like to see stricter cut offs enforced to ensure a cleaner end to the season. I do appreciate the sport is hostage to the weather/ when meetings can and cannot be run due to stadium availability/riders on the continent etc but a diluted fixture list would help workaround such things IMO. I actually think there are probably too many meetings that are part of the calendar and it takes away from the novelty of the sport a bit.

Another thing I would like to see (though how this would be enforced I don’t know) would be a rule whereby if Glasgow and Berwick (as an example) are rained of in the Premier Trophy in April it doesn’t have to be rerun in September after the competitions Semi has already been run. I assume this would be difficult for the sake of contracts/guaranteed meetings/season tickets etc but ultimately most of these meetings cost the clubs money, are complete dead rubbers and typically enter the seasons calendar during a time when every meeting should matter.

There are too many completely meaningless meetings run in this country that are, again, costing clubs money, and while not a driver for turning fans away, aren’t doing enough to drive interest, in such instances possibly a prorata payment could be made to riders and season ticket holders to reimburse the costs come the end of the season (I appreciate enforcing that would be difficult though).

RE 4s and pairs qualification I think fans buy into the idea of gimmick meetings more than most of the riders probably do. I like the idea of an aggregate qualification leading up to the 4s and pairs where teams top 2 face off after heat 15, or the top 4 go out and race 2 races of 2 v 2 and you calculate it and let the top 4 teams compete in the Final etc but I would assume this is the kind of thing riders would look to be heavily subsidised for, cost money, increase in entrance prices etc and so on…so ultimately leaving it as it is probably works out in terms of cost, I actually think (when incident free) the 4s, Pairs, PLRC typically live up to their bespoke nature

I did notice, but really don't understand why the 4"s qualifiers in the South failed to attract fans compared to the North.Maybe more distance between some tracks but by the same token better road network than up North at the time.I think a 4 Team Final would be as much a success as what is being run now as the Final.Probably nothing will change though.!
