Crazy robin
It appears that Swindon have now admitted that they are unilkely to have the new stadium next year ... there are delays.... Yet Terry & Rosco kept telling us their were no problems & must be the first time a "Farewell meeting" isn't one😀😀
Pirates Of Poole
What a joke! this has Reading all over it again, The same stadium owners as Poole and Swindon. Noise application! good luck with that one, now the houses are all built the planners will vote against speedway being so near.

It is simply the game that has to be played to get rid of the stadium and get houses everywhere. Sadly planning committees fall for it everytime (Reading/Long Eaton/Cradley etc) There will have always been no intention of a stadium being built
Odds On
take a look at Reading and Milton Keynes and look at their new stadiums and then look at what Swindon are supposed to have!..
Woz01
Is there any actual designs of what the stadium will look like?
Pirates Of Poole
If the council have any sense no further house building can take place and old stadium cannot be touched until new stadium build starts.
Grachan
The thing Swindon does have in its favour is there is a stipulation that the area must be used as a sports venue. Â It seems to me, from the outside, that GI are trying to avoid building a stadium but the local MP and the council are effectively not going to let them get away with it. Â I'm hopeful that this is what we are seeing. To me they will keep stalling, but in the end will have no choice but to build it. Then they'll just put positive spin on it that it was always their intention. Â As for it being ready next year, that's a different matter. Â One advantage we have over Reading is that the Reading promotion bargained away years of their lease and were left with no legalities to fall back on. Â At least we apparently have those. Â From a fan's perspective it's just a case of wait and see now. Â People knock the positive noises coming from the Swindon promotion, but it could just be part of the pressure being put on GI to keep it public. It seems a bit unfair to knock the club for that.
oldace
If the council have any sense no further house building can take place and old stadium cannot be touched until new stadium build starts. Â Â Thats is usually when the mysterious fire happens rendering the site unsafe and having to be demolished. GI can play the long game and no matter what covenents are on the land will likely win in the end
SCB
Cradley and Long Eaton had sporting covenants. It seems they mean very little.

oldace
Cradley and Long Eaton had sporting covenants. It seems they mean very little. Â Â But to be fair, councils are put in difficult positions. After the vandals/fire etc they are often left with an eyesore piece of derelict land. It is alright having PP for a stadium but with no one to pony up the readies it doesn't get built and in the meantime the land becomes more of a mess or travellers get on it etc. Ultimately the only option is to allow the land to be developed as was pretty much the case at those two venues
remembertheracers
Fires? Seem to remember at least one at Eastville, the original base of GI. Must get out my old hit record by Arthur Brown - Fire. Â Didn't that also put the final kybosh on speedway continuing at Newport when Phil Morris and other possible partners were interested. Â Surely there won't be one at Blunsdon?

A ORLOV
There is a report in the Adver today, pointing out that detailed planning details have still not been submitted to the Council and that it is unlikely that this will be agreed by the end of the year. Â The news of this delay is and has been obvious to many and as time has gone on that no way will the stadium be ready by the start of the next season, something that people have mentioned and been moaned at by TR and Rosco. Â Councillors and the MP have been and are chasing the planning info still required. Â I cannot drag the full report across but no doubt some one else can at some point.

If that is the case then there is no way the message should have been put about that a new stadium would be ready for the start of the 2016 season, in fact no one can positively say it will be ready for June 2016, nor in fact June 2017. And as someone else posted a double header, one meeting in the current stadium, then a five min walk to the new one for the second meeting, remembering to dig up buckets of shale and take them from one track to the other.
van wolfswinkel
If that's the case they will be lucky to get half of the Farewell meeting's 2500 crowd back for the start of the 2016 season at The Abbey.
Gresham78
I spoke with Terry Russell at the Press and Practice day back in March and other than saying the track would be about 300 metres and based on the Cardiff shape he didn't seem to know an awful lot else about the stadium when I quizzed him on the facilities and the capacity. Â At the end of the day the speedway club remain the tenants at the new stadium and the only people who really know what's going on are Stadia UK (unfotunately) Â I don't think the Robins promotion has ever really been in a position to announce with any certainty when the new stadium wll be ready. I think 'in time for the beginning of the 2016 season' was always just wishful thinking.
