Poole 2016

Recommended Posts

The squad is usually 10 riders which should be Tai, Harris, Cook, Nicholls, Lambert, King , Stead, Kennett, Garrity and Auty. After the first 5 we are really struggling. King ,Stead and Kennett are not good enough at international level but they are the next best. Garrity shows ambition and is a better rider than Newman or Howarth. Auty is a premier league number 1 and is also better than Newman

Which is why we needed Nicholls back because he will give his all, Cook was impressive last season and hope he continues his good form, shame we havent another Mark Loram on the horizon!

The Garrity and Newman debate is like two bald people arguing over a comb ....both won't go any further is the sport bar beating up crap draft riders

But Garrity thinks he is He Man and able to take it to the top!

I mean at least Newman has a brain

this is newmans sixth season at reserve ,

remember jason doyle was one rider that once seemed happy to be a half decent pl rider doubling up then it was asif someone switched a light on and he wanted to be a elite league heat leader.....

wonder if some riders have been financially bribed over the years to underperform for the team

Garrity reminds me of a British Billy Janniro..

not a bad comparison as Janniro had a good career but just short of top class. You would compare Newman to a Ryan Fisher. Elite league reserve who will never be any better than a premier league number 1

Riders like Auty & Newman have been at reserve for 6 years!! At least Auty has rode in Birmingham's top 5 though at some point. You would hope after 6 years Newman would have progressed.

Garrity only spent 2 years at reserve.

At this point in time Garrity has a higher EL & PL average than Newman so is the better rider at present. Stats don't lie.

Garrity is nowhere near as good as Janniro was.

Newman is nowhere near as good as Fisher either in both Elite & Premier League.

As has been said both have serious questions of how far they can go in the Elite when they don't have the draft riders to get easy points against.

Fish was better than an Elite League reserve.

Not sure if it happens....

However the way the sport allows riders to double up and then not use the EL average for team building, can only lead to speculation if in the PL a rider often gets beat by riders that he regularly beats in the EL..

Similar with riders who don't have an EL average because they dont have a PL average to convert, hence come in to the EL as 'second reserve'

Savvy teams looking for a good tier 2 reserve next season could pay decent NL riders this year not to ride in the PL just in case they score 'too well' thus meaning they come in on the lowest possible average to the EL...

A loophole that needs closing.

Instead of being a breeding ground for GB talent the 'fast track' berths could end up with 'professional reserves' who will be able to negotiate good deals knowing the impact they can have on a match result..

Nice to see Havvy on Twitter talking about Newman. Spot on when he says it's a lack of ambition and the fact the EDR was designed to bring riders through rather than exploit loopholes to keep him at reserve.

And as I say Poole have done nothing wrong just as Havvy says lack of ambition from the rider. Garrity will be in the GB squad and Newman has no chance

Ambition isn't being given something it's wanting to earn it and going for it and earning it. If you call me "World Champion" because i want to be, ambition is me going out to try an achieve it.

Garrity being handed a second string place isn't ambition. Newman fighting to earn that place is. Garrity has messed up Coventrys team.

Havvy is talking rubbish!

whats the point of the draft thou if none of them ever moved up!

or was the plan just to get them to improve just enough to become match winning reserves but not quite enough for top 5?

"Point & Plan", this is British speedway so both of them wouldn't have been given a seconds thought.

The point is this season they're all likely to move up. But they're going to earn it. And what's the point of just giving someone a place? They've had two years of being hand held now they have to earn a place in the team.

and then move back down again when the new averages come in, some teams will be yoyoing riders all season, the timing as such could be crucial in play offs, imagine if davy watt was at reserve

i would of had the top maybe 2/3 move up this year and carried on with the draft as it was before with them staying as reserve all season
