Paul
Former Hackney and Sheffield rider Zenon Plech is in hospital in Poland after recently having a heart attack. Zenon perhaps wasn't at his best when he rode at Sheffield but was an outstanding rider in the 70's. Wish you well soon Zenon.
customhouseregular
I echo that...Zenon was, in my opinion the best of the Poles from that era.

proud panther
See him ride in the Pride of the East at Kings Lynn, & he was crazy but very good. Hope he makes a complete recovery.
RobMcCaffery
There was no 'possibly'. Zenon was the greatest Pole of his generation and one of the most entertaining, wholehearted riders I've had the privilege to watch. It should have been his World Championship in '73. Get well soon, Zenon!

Woryna was a genuine pioneer, having been allowed over well before Edward and Zenon.

frigbo
Woryna was a genuine pioneer, having been allowed over well before Edward and Zenon. Really? Numerous Poles had been over well before Woryna first rode for Poole in 1973. Plech was definitely the best of the mid 70's Poles. Terry
I would say that Zenons best period was when he rejoined the Hawks halfway through the 79 season to replace the sadly departed Vic Harding. He was so fast, breaking the track record on an almost weekly basis. I remember him beating Ole Olsen from the back three times one night. And of course he finished second in the world final, where only a loss after a monumental battle with Kelly Moran deprived him of a run off with Ivan Mauger for the title.

iris123
I do from memory think Eddie had the best, the second best, the third best and the fifth best BL average of all the Poles in that period.Zenon was of course the rider with the 4th best....... Do hope he gets back to full health. He was without dispute a great rider

Plech was definitely the best of the mid 70's Poles. Numerous? Name them please. I suspect we'll end up with a handful.......The Poles were so free in allowing their riders to travel weren't they? Well, in a parallel universe perhaps. By the way, numerous means many. Anyway, get well Zenon, even if people are trying to make petty points about who was better than you. They can't have watched you ride or have met you. Edited September 28, 2015 by rmc

I liked Zenon Plech but my favourite Pole was always Edward Jancarz.
