Why are you posting on a topic you are bored of ..as I said change into another name ... like Clive Rice :D

and still no apology? I agree it was pointless of me to add a post I wasn't interested on, but I doubt im the 1st one to

do that. but any credibility you may of had amongst any poster who reads your last 3 accusations against me, will

highlight how incapable you are of admitting when you are wrong!

I am as modern as you WH easily, but only for the better, ok me, WK, Vincent , don't agree to the play/offs more so because ie) it is not FAIR and because you have not proved to me the crowds are better.I have asked Orion about two times no reply so far, you agree with him so i will ask YOU if the Play/offs were scrapped tomorrow would the sport continue would regular clubs stay in business.?

As some clubs have said they only broke even due to the playoffs, then there is a good chance they wouldn't stay in business.

Reading through this thread it looks like the only opinions against the topic have been put forward by someone who is so arrogant he probably thinks his pooh smells nice and another who could be the equivalent of Les Dawson playing the piano but is probably not acting.

The only reason put forward to scrap playoffs is because a few folk don't like them.

However, in the real world, a few folk not liking something is not enough to scrap it. If those not liking it could come up with some evidence as to why scrapping playoffs would be beneficial then perhaps they'd have a case and the sport of speedway and the MANY others who are far BIGGER than speedway might listen too.

As it is, we are 45 pages in and not one piece of evidence has been forthcoming.

The case is effectively closed.

With all your posts and as usual you have put a good case, ( You could try not to come across as quite as superior as the rest of us that would would help). But you have still not convinced me over a whole season that the crowds are any bigger and as i have said endless times the sport would survive without the play/offs. Nobody has said playoffs increase crowds over the whole season.. simply that there is no logical reason why they would reduce crowds over a season. The claims have been made by the anti-playoff people who try to justify that the playoffs effect regular season crowds, when all their arguments actually point the other way.

I prefer how premier league football does it backed up by ever increasing league attendances over the past 20+ years.

The cup competitions don't devalue the league one iota and despite both competitions being considered secondary to the league both attract sell out crowds for the finals and good crowds for the semi finals.

All it needs is for something creative to replace relegation for the teams at the bottom and there is no reason why speedway cannot replicate the success of the fa premier league especially now teams like belle vue and swindon are finally addressing the issue of decrepit stadiums.

When speedway is the biggest sport in the world with the mass media coverage and money coming into the game then perhaps it can run things in that way.

As regards the cup competitions.. they are on a massive slide so I would hardly hold those up as shining lights. 14,900 at West Ham for last years League Cup Semi Final isn't a 'good crowd' in football terms at all. The finals still pull in the crowds as it is a trip to Wembley but the appeal of the competition is on the slide.. as is evidenced by the teams fielded.

That reminds me of the Swindon v belle vue semi, virtually a dead rubber and poorly attended.

The same effect despite media coverage.

Another post easily dismissed.

West Ham's average attendance was 34,871 last year. The semi attracted 14,900.. about 42% of their usual crowd..

You're claiming the playoff semi attracted around 42% of Swindons normal crowd?

the sport would survive without the play/offs.

Agree Sidney, the sport would survive at some level. However, in my opinion I strongly believe the play offs has saved clubs from closure. Surely that is a huge positive in favour. Never thought I would say that when first introduced. As previously stated I now don't look at it as who finishes top - making the playoffs is the objective.

Can I suggest that a truce be drawn on this topic? It's getting very tiresome and it's obvious that nobody is going to win this particular discussion. Time to move in my opinion.

Can I suggest if it is tiresome dont keep contributing. You may have noticed you are on a discussion forum and people are having a discussion. The forum is full of self appointed guardians of the public interest and doesnt need another

The crowd was in proportion to the chance of victory in both events despite the media coverage, unless you think a 14 point defeat in speedway equates to 6-0 in football, despite media coverage, which if you hadn't noticed has gone from virtually nil to several hours a week of live and recorded action.

Nah,you're not selling it, the fa premier have got it right and no matter what you say the bspa have got it wrong.

A word of advice, always back the winner when you already know the result.

You have been proven wrong, like many on this thread, but instead of acting like an adult continue to act like a child.

You've tried to act clever and introduce another sport into the equation, only its backfired on you.

Swindons playoff semi crowd was higher than their regular league matches.

West Ham's cup semi had only 42% of their average gate.

You claim they are a comparison.

Reality shows you are wrong.

hi hodgy, is there a club/s you know of that's been saved ...because of the play offs?....belle vue had been lowly for a number

of years, yet planned a new stadium, so they were going nowhere? I get sidneys point, and to an extent get your point too,

but as far as im aware, id not heard of any club saved by the play off. I stand corrected if wrong

So you agree are more likely to go to matches if there something riding on the outcome ? that is what the play offs does ..glad you agree .

No, you decided to compare the semi final of speedway's premier domestic team competition to football's 3rd choice domestic team competition when one team had lost 6-0!

You have compare them twice already ... short term memory loss ?

I agree...but it's rather obvious that this particular thread has been exhausted and what may have started as a 'discussion' has become rather heated and personal in some instances. A forum is about contributors sharing opinions which may not be agreed by all but whose comments should be respected all the same.

Hi les,

Yes, give me the fa premier league way than the speedway way.

I think you'll find someone else mistakenly thought it was a relevant comparison, it isn't obviously is it les?

Anyone who remotely things comparing football to speedway is utterly deluded as I pointed out to you when you first brought it up.

Nobody in their right minds would do it.

Should football reach a stage where its popularity is beginning to wane, then they too will look for alternative methods... as most other sports have done.. which is the part you can't grasp.
