The White Knight
Palovaara at reserve is a huge plus for Newcastle in their play off push, the prospect of seven rides rides for him should see him racking up big points. Fair comment screm. But Lewis did very well at Reserve too.
Tsunami
Phew. Although the training session was called off earlier this week for other reasons, it definitely turned out to be right, as with the rain and the track condition this morning, there was no chance of it being on. A lucky escape which could have been wasteful to so many people. Everyone had a lie in. Of course, with the valiant efforts of Jonny and his team this morning, it does mean that tonights meeting against Edinburgh DOES go ahead as programmed.See you all there. NJC71
To replace Rose I assume? That would presumably push Victor back to number 2? If so I don't understand the thinking at all as that would leave us with a very weak reserve pairing. We'd be much stronger with rider replacement surely? Or am I not reading this correctly? NJC71
Well if we are trying to limit Danny's rides why is he still in the team? I'm sorry but I can't see how this is a good move. No dirsespect to Morris but he is nowhere near the standard of Lewis. One rider who is though is Victor and this basically means we are choosing Morris at reserve over Victor? That makes no sense at all. Â R/R gives us 2 rides for Victor, plus Kus and the no 7 and keeps us with a very strong reserve. That surely has to be a better option than Victor at 2 and (in my opinion) a very weak reserve pairing.
ruffdiamond
Ashley beat Vic in a race the other week at Brough,,, yeah sure he is no Lewis Rose, but we could've done worse,,, Edited August 30, 2016 by ruffdiamond
Arson fire
So meaning Danny would have to have four rides?   Therein lies the problem that should have be addressed months ago. Injury for Rose only highlights it, we are massivley up against it now. Very unfortunate for him as he was flying and leaving little or no time to find a replacement as good as him but better than a standard reserve... Catch22 but,  Id have rather went RR with Palovaara at reserve and appointed a number 8 if possible. Lewis' injury was very unfortunate and agree I can't understand why we haven't replaced Phillips - can only assume there literally isn't an alternative. But we had the opportunity to get Victor down to reserve thus negating the loss of Lewis. With R/R Victor can take two of his former no 2 rides, Matty can take heat 8, leaving only 1 ride to account for. Surely that's a better option than signing a rider who is not likely to get anywhere near the points Lewis was getting?  The only possible reasoning I can think of is the unwilingness to run with a 6 man team. But if anyone is injured surely we'd be allowed to sign a replacement or at least use a guest. Edited August 30, 2016 by NJC71

The real big risk (especially running r/r for your 5th average rider) is getting an injury early in a meeting - especially pavlova - you then would have potentially 1 rider in some heats and/or have Phillips taking 7 rides - if this was a play off match could be difference between winning/losing overall so I can fully understand why you are looking to get a full team in place

Catch Me If You Can
not sure, thought you could have one if you were using RR? To be honest Arson, Lewis Rose has been such a key member in your team and will be a miss, even if Morris is at reserve. He okay but can he score as Rose has? I fancied Newcastle for title given their performance at Somerset. Maybe it down a little with Rose missing? Key will be this Sunday against Rebels and a good guideline on how it will possibly pan out. northyorksbear
not sure, thought you could have one if you were using RR? Â I'm amazed so many teams don't bother - specifically for the scenario I outlined above - I guess they don't want additional costs, but at home there must be a local junior to have as a standby?? ruffdiamond
I think r/r would be good option with Vic at reserve, but as said it leave's Danny to have at least 4 rides,,, dunno if or who a no.8 would be tho ??? we might find 1 and the Morris move might not be approved,,, if it is, we need no 'off nights' in the top 5 and, Danny to find some kind of form,,, hopefully he will

In this instance I would definitely have taken the risk. With Morris & Phillips at reserve I can't see us beating any of the top teams in the play-offs anyway.
