Sheffield 2016

The Premier league draft system is a possibility but as Rob Godfrey has pointed out recently there are those Promoters in The PL that want to stick with a strong no 6 and are opposing the draft system.

We will have to see who wins the battle ... status quo or breed more young Brits

Personally , I would love to see the PL have a British draft system as were are long overdue a stint of breeding our own riders instead of being a learning curve for Young European riders.

Rob tried to bring on young riders in the N L last year but it was very unpopular with some of the Promoters mind you the ones that objected the most were very quick to sign the riders who showed promise at the end of the season!! Like you I would like to see the draft system.

I am not sure if this is still the case but did hear recently that Sissis may be giving up Speedway again to go back to road racing as has been offered a position in a TT series team doing the IOM and the endurance races

yeah I've also heard that Josh Bates is going to be his mechanic in Moto GP good luck to them both

Hope that next season I don't spend as many Thursdays at home watching TV due to another blank week at Owlerton.

Just looked back at the archives page on Sheffield Website for 2006. A total of 33 matches at Owlerton that season. Only 22 this year. Hardly surprising so many riders want to double up. Also the reason I do not buy a season ticket. I reckon it cost me £295 to get in to all matches they were valid for. I could have bought a season ticket for £300.

I think in current climate where fans who tend to only bother with proper Tigers meetings and big events like myself then you can't blame promoters for saving money by not running a pointless meeting, there would have been an end of season meeting but if they couldn't secure a field worthy enough to drag fans in then no point running a meeting for sake of it and losing money.

It has been a great 2015 for us even with all injuries and pride has certainly been restored down at Owlerton and only reason we had so many blank weeks was due to no rain off all season which hardly ever happens.

In 2016 hopefully we can build on this year and have a bit more luck on injury front and go all out for the title, Stead, Bates & Garrity would be the 3 I definitely want to see return, maybe Ty Proctor and Taylor Poole could come back into the fold if things go well down under for them both enabling a return and then see what is left.

I would certainly agree with the sentiments about the feel good factor, even when the injuries hit and the problems with Ty Proctor, the Promotion did the best to bring in riders who could keep the winning ways going.

Just a pity we could not find the the rider to replace Steady, but that was always going to be a massive problem.

As for next season Steady if fit, Bates and Garrity have to be viewed as certs for next season, as for the rest I think will depend upon whether or not Premier League adopts the draft system.

But I think whatever next season we will be back challenging at the top of the league rather than the bottom.

Sheffield have been more successful this year than the previous couple of years but I can't help but feel that the end of season has been an anticlimax! No last meeting so we can cheer our riders on for the hard work they have done this year (the guests included) or a firework display which has always happened in previous years

Why on earth doesn't the PL adopt the 2 home / 2 away fixture formula, guaranteeing all teams 24 home league meeting a season? It could then do away with the ridiculous play-off system, whereby theoretically a team finishing sixth in the league (i.e. mid-table) could be crowned league champions!

It would also mean that the season would not come to an abrupt end at the end of August, as it does currently for the seven teams that don't make the play-offs. Nor would there be so many blank Thursdays in the fixture list, and riders could potentially double their PL earnings.

From March to October, Thursday night is speedway night at Owlerton. We want competitive speedway, not Eastenders (promoters please note).

Agree totally. If Sheffield had not made play off season would have been over by August. In the past could expect (rain permitting) speedway on a continual basis, Mid March to late October. I always left every Thursday free for this reason. I now am wondering if, when I see "reserved/open" in next years fixtures whether to bother leaving that date free. Something for the promoters to consider as they do not want to lose the "go to every one" fans.

I think Stead Bates Garrity are nailed on, also like Sissis back and my favorite Compton like to see young Zach given a chance as our fast track reserve, Dont know who would be the last one till averages are sorted, who will we have as manager this time any ideas.

Compton has been a great servant of Sheffield - one who deserves to be remembered as one of the all-time Sheffield greats. But his form of late has been well down on what we all know he was capable of in his heyday. Age is not on his side and it's unreasonable to expect that he will ever be able to consistently repeat the feats of years gone by. In the past eighteen months he's also succumbed to some serious injuries: not least the whack on the head during the televised 2014 Somerset match which finished his season.

For these reasons I hope he makes the decision to retire. He's far too great a rider to be seen struggling to avoid the drop to reserve, and no-one wants to see him risk his career being ended by further injury. He's had a momentous career, but I sincerely hope he goes out on a high, having been instrumental in getting the Tigers to the 2015 play-offs and - who knows - maybe looking forward to continuing to serve speedway in some managerial or coaching role.

Compers is a speedway hero and I hope he gives us all the privilege of remembering his great achievements in that way.

Chances of Elite League for 2016??

Just got Belle Vue season ticket prices & they guarantee 20 home meetings.

As it stands with an 8 team league, If no play offs then the number of home meetings would be 14 so where do these extra 6 meetings come from??

Could this be the exciting future plans they talk of??

Not sure what everyone would think of that??

At the last Talking Tigers event, Peter Mole said it will be PL in 2016 for Sheffield.

I hope not, I like to know in advance what raceday we are using, not chopping and changing to a different day every week just to satisfy sky or because half of the opposing team are unavailable(sorry panthers fans, didn't mean to bring that up)
