Team Strength 2016

Recommended Posts

Hope this talk about PL teams required to track at least one NL rider entering on a GSA of 3.00 is binned. (Would it be a draft selection, and what happens if the guy based in Eastbourne refuses to join Glasgow or Edinburgh if chosen ?)

This suggestion, together with a proposal of reducing the team building limit from 42.5, means only one thing, namely a dilution of the quality of the product.

The theory that dud non UK riders are preventing the development indigenous talent is risible, unless the home boys are pricing themselves out of the market from the outset.

I pay good dosh to watch decent PL fare and I resent some patriotic namby pambys' trying to dictate who should be allowed to represent my club based on their birthplace.

It's all about finding a balance. Theres some right crap in the PL at reserve, when I looked the other day it only required 10 new riders to replace the foreignors. Will anyone really miss the 3 pointer, Fernando Garcia? Or Hynek Stichauer? Rafal Konopka? What about Jan Graversen? He'll be due a testimonial soon but can't average 4! Or Maassen who cant get 3. How many chances has Simon Nielsen had to get his 4.2 average?

It's not as if half of them are adding much at all if anything that Adam Ellis, Danny Ayres, Perry, Wajknecht, Carr and Jacobs could do. (edit: plus Ben Wilson)

Some sort of draft would be no bad thing, It doesn't have to be like the EL version, it could just be clubs have to sign any 2 riders of a list 30-odd riders. If you chose to go with Simon Lambert and Paul Starke and have them at 2 and 4 then have Garcia and Konopka in reserve then fine but at least you have the 2 Brits.

I think you're being a little harsh on Graversen - granted his average now is really low, but it's been over 4 for the vast majority of his British career.

I actually went through the list of potential draftees last week, and I reckon there's enough talent (just about) to have a semi-experienced #6 (eg Ellis, Morris, Nielsen, Bates, Sarjeant, et al) along with a rookie @ 7 (Ayres, Wajknecht, Shanes, Perks, Spiller, at al).

I appreciate the counter might be “tough” and “live with it” but a rider like Bates has a 5.86 average, it would put him in every side in the country’s top 5 and he now has 2 years PL racing, its riders like that where this kind of system falls on its arse, just as it was Jon Armstrong the last time and the likes of Carl Wilkinson in the EL.

It seems that a change of heart on the original idea. looks likely No7 will be fast tracker, but No6 can be any nationality, and the points will be retained at 42.5.

Like the EL draft, if riders agree to bring a part of it they would have to agree to ride no matter where they were drafted.

Do this and reducing the team limit by 6-7 points for the main team (1-5) doesn't actually dilute the product at all at the start of the season.

Decent PL fare? Graversen, Konopka, Dilger, Maassen... Really? Riders given more chances than any of our riders are given and being pants, it's criminal, moves need to be made to improve the future British speedway, each team tracking two young/inexperienced reserves is a good start.

Exactly someone like Ben Wilson Will probably not get a team place next season even though he is better than two thirds of the 5 point foreigners and his average is lower !

Answer this then, if the non Brits are so crap, why do Promotions persist with them if there are better home grown riders available ?

It is ok for the the patriotic grumblers to moan from the sidelines, but do you really think those spending their cash on running clubs are really going to employ foreigners who would cost them more

I'd include Bates. But I'd not do it the EL way that doesn't account for strength. If Sheffield go with Bates and Wajknecht but Ipswich go wit Stef Nielsen and Ayres then Ipswich would have an extra point for their 1-5. I'd have a points limit for the 1-7 but just say each tea has to include 2 draft riders, pick two better ones and you lose out on your 1-5.

Because they think a fancy foreign name is more attractive to the punters. Edited by OILYRAG

You've answered your own point there, cost. However the answer to that again is to impose a pay scale for draft riders that all have to agree to if they want to be a part of the draft.

Additionally each team should include at least one Brit in their 1-5.

I've just heard that Kaz Trolar is unavailable so we have signed the Australian Lew Sprokkit.
