Peterborough V Sheffield Plpo Quarter Final 2nd Leg

Recommended Posts

Jonas B Andersen is sometimes available to guest for you at very short notice.

Looking like Jason Garrity will not be fit to ride for Sheffield.

That's handy then isn't it because Sheffield are good at short notice. They arranged a fixture at short notice that only they wanted, so arranging a guest that they were always likely to need, even this late in the day, is small change to them :)

You know full well the difference between a date in the calendar and negotiation with agreement.

Exactly.

And it's funny how Sheffield have just cancelled the planned individual meeting for next Thursday. I thought they were saying how imperative it is not to have any blank Thursdays.

And it's a pretty lame reason they're giving. How many Sheff fans are actually going to travel to Redcar anyway? It wouldn't even fill a taxi!

The Sheffield meeting was to include all the riders that had guested for them this year, now they'll all be riding at Redcar that night. Apart from the ones who are injured!

but if it's oh-so-important not to have a blank Thursday they'd be rustling up a different bunch of riders

and that makes two blank Thursdays on the bounce

Surprised they would risk their excellent relationship with their landlords? Just shows you that all the guff spouted out about the first leg was just bull crap. Sheffield knew Panthers would be weakened, unfortunately it back fired as Sheffield were even weaker.

sheffield line up?

See my earlier post - Sheffield unchanged unless a Facility is required for Jason Garrity.

Sheffield did not want 3 or even 4 blank Thursdays in a row, not just 1.

None of the 3 Peterborough riders who were 'unavailable' on the Thursday were booked to ride on that day, or the day after.

Compare the known facts with the quoted reports in this week's SS from Damien Bates and Ged Rathbone, and see who you believe.

Firstly, the Sheff v Panthers meeting is just ONE fixture, and Jeezus H.... it cannot fill in 3 or 4 of Sheff's Thursdays  . So Sheff would be having some blank Thursdays, in one combination or another, whether it was run on the 17th OR the 24th.

Can you really not grasp this?

And now we hear that Sheff have cancelled next week's meeting. If it's so flippin' important not to have any blank Thursdays they'd have had contingency plans in place and would be arranging another invitation meeting to ensure that it's not another blank one.

Secondly, you use the word 'unavailable' as though the only definition is "riding elsewhere at the same time". That's not the case and never has been. You can twist it all you like, but the fact is that the 3 Panthers riders were unavailable when Sheff unilaterally picked the 17th. Sheff knew that and it's why they did it. It's also why Panthers weren't consulted, as they should have been, if only out of common courtesy.

Ged rightly objected because in the normal PL season an away team has to be offered 3 dates, and it's only at the 3rd one that they have to accept it. He also felt that as Panthers finished above Sheff they should have first dibs.

But, although there was some sympathy for Ged's case, he was told that there isn't a rule in place covering either of those two issues (you really couldn't make it up!) and so he hit a brick wall. He was forced to accept the 17th, so he twisted the arms of the 3 riders and plans were rearranged - no doubt at considerable cost at the Panthers end. That gets conveniently overlooked, of course.

Anyway, it all backfired on the Sheff management, and it serves them right.

I don't know the facts, but maybe it's the number of blank Thursday's in a row that was the issue for Sheffield and the fact is that the Peterborough riders were available to ride. From the Peterborough perspective, their riders had organised to have a break before their respective meetings. 2 sides to every story and as is so often the case in speedway, there is every chance that we will never know both sides in full

That's true, and unless we know the real "why" here, then we'll just have to form our own sectarian opinions:

"But, after long discussions involving rival promoter Damien Bates and the British Speedway Promoters’ Association (BSPA), Rathbone has been told his team must appear at Owlerton."

Anyway, it'll all be forgotten by 7pm today!
