Edinburg V Bandits

My thoughts on tonight -

Well that was certainly a game of two halves! After a scrappy few heats with jump starts, 2 mins exclusions then a Bandits 4-2, 8-1 in heats 7/8 I thought my Bandits mate Wee Marty was finally going to see Bandits pushing us all the way. However, after a magical half time cuppa, the Real Monarchs scooshed the second half. Only Mellgren in heat 10 beat a Monarch!

For Monarchs, Cook had his easiest max ever, Justin was strange with three poor rides and two good ones, necessary to keep the average down ;) 007 only dropped one point, Sam still seemed to be suffering with his hand but only dropped a point. Now to the reserves!! These young guys were on a hiding to nothing all year, as every other team seemed to have a big hitter or two at 6/7. So when we got a 5-1 in heat 2, I thought, great, but you only beat poor reserves (one of whom beat Justin later!) However to then come out and beat Doolan, Hansen, Morris and Mellgren as well as the bandits reserves again was superb! Let tonight give Rob & Max the confidence as we do the treble!!

For Bandits, guest Hansen had 2 good wins when he gated, Morris - no comment, Mellgren, couple of good races, Doolan, sorry to see him so poor, Garcia, beat Justin ht 8, decent effort on a new track, Phillips, just not near.

As others have said, very strange with the bias to gates 3/4 tonight, not like the Dale where it is usually consistent. So now, bring on the Weegies, going to be close but after the second half tonight, I'm confident!!

Genuine question, does anybody know the reason(s) behind Edinburgh continually losing money? Do they pay excessive wages? Excessive rent? Are they struggling for sponsorship? Crowd levels down? Mixture of all? You would think that a successful team would attract sponsorship and a good following.

They are likely the same as most tracks. It is a sport that needs bankrolling.

That is why the support of the fans is so important.

Don't back it, it becomes a thankless task and the funding is pulled.

It's really rather simple.

This is a valid question. The problem this season has definitely been crowd levels down. We pay a fairly high rent. We are very well sponsored in several different ways. A major problem is the make-up of visiting teams with numerous patched-up selects.

But I think the article in the Evening News today was well over the top, and actually this will not prove to be one of the Monarchs' worst seasons financially, taking everything into account.

Edinburgh are pretty much the same as every other club in the PL, they are paying wages they can't afford, I think most teams are beaten before they turn up to race at Armadale, looking at there results most opponents haven't turned up with seven man teams . They must average 60 points plus including bonus points which will have a huge financial impact on there business, Did they have to go for Cook, Masters and Wolbert? Yes ,because there nearest rivals Glasgow announced Lawson, Morris and Summers and they wanted to remain top dog no matter what it cost , if they didn't can you imagine the crowds they would have got! Really is a catch 22 situation, ps hope both finals have great weather and massive crowds next weekend, oh and the Tigers to win lol

I don't think the sport needs bankrolled, it needs promoted. I've thought for a long time the most important post in a club these days is a commercial manager, to attract sponsorship, both for riders and teams, corporate nights, which bring in money and going out and attracting new fans.

The promotion needs to start on a league wide basis (a league sponsor would help) and then be topped up by the individual clubs.

The article in the Evening News is quoting John Campbell's comments ,surely he knows the financial situation as well as anyone in the Club.I agree regarding crowd levels and I think you are correct regarding Team make -ups, it is Select Teams turning up everywhere these days,it certainly doesn't help and is a big problem in the sport IMO .

Yes he does but the tone of the article often depends on the line of questioning. If the reporter has decided he is writing a 'doom and gloom' article then that's how it will come out. I'm certainly not suggesting Edinburgh's finances are good but they have been worse, and we have had a substantial amount of additional income this season. I don't think any club in the league can say they have had a good season financially.

With due respect, when the quotes given in the article are from a prominent member of the Club it's hard to believe it could be termed any thing else than "doom and gloom" except by yourself. Most fans know that Monarch fans are probably best in the League regarding additional income to the Club every season which is commendable.Perhaps should have said "no comment" to the reporter.

I would suggest the major factor in lower attendances has been the really poor weather (mainly cold, with threat of, or actual rain) that has been consistently occurring on race day, this Season.

I would reckon the majority of our home support travel a fair distance to Armadale on a Friday, and the threat of a wasted journey because of postponement or curtailment of the meeting, deters a significant number from setting out.

The lack of public transport, to and from Armadale on a Friday evening, must also prevent some from attending.

If we were fortunate enough to secure a new venue at Ingliston, the venue would be within walking distance of Edinburgh Airport which is well served by public transport (bus and tram) as well as being closer to what is the main catchment area.

Agree,a small corner of Ingleston would be an ideal venue now with the Trams service .

Are the high scores Edinburgh run up week in, week out not a factor too?

If so, then surely team planning pre-season needs to be looked at?

Some will argue that a lesser team may not attract as many people, but you can't have it both ways.

Cut the cloth accordingly.

Pity there is no equity in admission price George or even better...a combined ticket covering both matches.

Thats a fair point, though it should be standard admission prices anyway. A combined ticket would take joined up thinking! The result on Friday night will determine how many handfuls of 0131's travel over.
