"stepped in to defend his team mate" =stuck his nose in and attacked another rider who was sitting on his bike. Pikey behaviour.

Like i said there will be lots of different versions , the version i heard was that the other rider fronted Rob and was shoving him , after trying to knock Alf off the bike a few times going into the pits , so dont get too carried away.

Rob has appologised and realises he made a mistake, so build a bridge.

Bowtell ran into wood at the pit exit after the race as he had raving needle after cocking the last bend up and losing 3 rd place up, wood rightly spoke to him about it, nothing too serious til Branford waded in. Handbags really til Branford intervened

I think it started before that.

George Hunter almost ran in to the back of Georgie Wood as he was slowing down and come out of turn to after the race. It seemed like George Hunter had gone past the tapes at such a speed he could not slow up for the corner and went round pretty much at racing speed, I dont think it was malicious. Georgie made a 'what the hell?' type gesture and I guess Alfie must have seen it so decided to rum in to Georgie on purpose.

Georgie and Alfie than rode off having words and Rob decided to come flying at Georgie.

Personally I have no real issue with a bit of agro between riders that have just raced each other but there was no need for Rob to get involved hence why he got the maximum fine I guess. BTW, for anyone thinking my view is biased, I actually like Rob and admire him as a rider.

Regarding the legth of the match I really dont get the complaints about this. You only have to look in the program and the amount of exclusions and tapes offences to understand this. Much of the track prep was done while we were waiting for restarts and during the interval and regarding track watering. Just ask those standing on the grass banking at turn 4 and they will tell you it wasn't watered enough, cant please everyone I guess.

For me, I loved the weekends racing. Nice close match at Rye House with a stunning accident without serious injury and then through to the final after an incident packed meeting at Arlington in glorious sunshine. Wonderful!

Thanks all. I think that pieces it together. I saw the WTF gesture from Georgie Wood towards George Hunter after the race had finished but then got busy with my programme so couldn't work out how that led to Rob Branford getting involved and punches thrown. I can well imagine Alfie Bowtell was fuming after he gave away the point on the last bend after doing all the hard work. I suppose Rob Branford may also have been wound up from getting it wrong in heat 5 when Rye were in with a chance of getting something out of the meeting.

I only hope I haven't started a spat between Rye and Eastbourne fans by trying to clarify this. As a Rye fan I've enjoyed the Eastbourne contingent coming to Hoddesdon and making some noise and am looking forward to more of the same in a couple of weeks. Rye fans are not a particularly noisy lot but would be good to see more of them at Eastbourne on 4 October. Our boys tried really hard yesterday and deserved more than 31 points, and I'm sure they would appreciate the support.

As for the long drawn out affair, I was mostly fine with it because of the number of restarts but thought the ref was too slow in calling for the restarts. Track grading between restarts and after the ref had called the end of the interval was a new one on me though. I take the point about water bowser, the promotion can do something about that.

I agree that what happened between the riders should be forgotten and I think it is already, I am certainly sure the fans are over it!

Regarding the watering, I did get involved recently in helping Martin with a new one that they use in between meetings (I supplied parts and labour). I know nothing about track prep but I can tell you I learnt some interesting stuff during that time and one of these snippets was that if you put too much water down too quickly it simply runs off the track and does not get in to the surface.

I am sure there are plenty of people on here that know more than me but I just wanted to share the fact that its not just a case of getting a watering system to put more water down. Even if it was that simple of course, there is the money issue of buying it!

End of the season soon so why waste money on more grip. All that happens is Wednesday nights and the firework meeting at Arlington all the dirt gets washed away in the stock car racing nights.

Also a very unusual warm September in Sussex too warm for this time of year. Also noticed no only Connor Dugard and Paul Dugard were there yesterday.

Maybe Martin Dugard was at the launchpad with Tom Brennan

They manage to water the tracks in Eastern Europe with massive water spraying trucks with no problems.

Maybe they have a different kind of sunshine over there

There's no doubt that 3 hours for a speedway meeting is too long. People get restless, bored, fed up and don't come back.

In this case, though, aside from the referee failing to hurry proceedings along enough and the constant track work there was nothing that could be done.

To be fair to the trackman, he did extremely well on a hot, breezy day and there was no blue line and no dust which is quite an achievement. I'd echo those who have criticised the water bowser, though. Not enough went down so watering had to take place after every race.

I must admit I am surprised that Eastbourne run on Sunday afternoons when Saturday night would resolve most of the problems created by the weather conditions.

On a final note, I was impressed with the new announcer. Some of his language was a bit modern for me (being the wrong side of 50) but he tried hard to get the crowd ongoing and took in some interviews which helped the monotony caused by the long meeting a bit. Get him a straight man in the box to do the team line ups, two minutes and results and I think Eastbourne will be onto a winner.

Yes, I thought the track work was to good effect and the roving announcer did a good job under the circumstances. I also really liked the parade of riders on the back of bigger motorbikes around the outside of the speedway track so they could get up close and personal with the fans.

All of this helps to make the riders approachable to the crowd, which is important where kids are concerned - and there was a good number of those at Eastbourne. More so than Rye where I seem to be in the minority aged under 50. I have no idea what the Eastbourne experience was like when they were in the EL but it had a nice family friendly atmosphere both times I've been there this year.

As I get older I get less tolerant about most things in life, this includes long delays at speedway meetings. Most of my mates feel the same way, so I am not unique. The rapidly shrinking speedway fan base is mostly made up of older people, so it might be an idea for the promoters to run a slicker show, to stop us dying of boredom!

I don't think the intolerance of over long meetings is restricted to those of us who are feeling their age a bit.

In truth I think its everyone that wants to proceedings to run as speedily as possible and I am not convinced that all tracks make as much effort in that direction as they can and the same applies to referees.

Agree, will think twice about returning in a fortnight for the NT

If there were any newbies, I doubt they would return - surprised promoters can't see this

what is needed is a meeting co-ordinator at each meeting (like Phil Morris does in GP's) to inject some urgency into things. Any pause in proceedings must be for a reason, not just be allowed to happen. I would happily volunteer to do this as I feel I could add value even if its on the end of a phone to someone else whilst on the terraces.

I might regret this although to be fair Kent did offer me the chance previously to 'observe' what goes on in the pits which I couldn't take up at the time..

the problem is Michael, like a well known promoter in the south east said not so long ago. 'It's my toy, I will play with it how I like'.
