sussex bulldog
Eastbourne IT First Eagles aim to reach a third cup final this season when they take on the Rye House Raiders this weekend. They face the Hertfordshire team home and away for a place in the National League Gold Cup Final.Sunday’s match at Arlington begins at 2pm.The Raiders and Eagles will get to know each other well over the next few weeks. As well as the Gold Cup semi-final, the two clubs will meet in the final of the National Trophy competition on October 3 (at Rye House) and October 4 (at Arlington). This weekend’s fixtures were due to be the Trophy final but it was switched to the Gold Cup after Rye House snatched the last qualifying place in the competition on Sunday afternoon.Eastbourne team manager Glenn Martin said this season’s previous results against Rye House would count for nothing in the cup semi-final.He said: “We have won three out of four against Rye House this season but they have had a strong run recently. “Their No 1 Robert Branford is up at the top of the National League points scorers along with our own Bradley Wilson-Dean and Birmingham’s Adam Ellis.“Their back-up riders will be a threat both home and away. We cannot afford to be complacent.“We were in superb form last weekend and we just have to keep that going to secure a Gold Cup final place.”Last Sunday’s injury victim Daniel Spiller, who was involved in a nasty crash at Buxton, is OK and will ride, although the 17-year-old’s chest is giving him pain. His bike was a write-off but a new machine is being assembled for him to ride this weekend.Martin has also swapped his reserves around with Kelsey Dugard (pictured) at No 6 and Richie Andrews at No 7.As well as the National Trophy final to look forward to, the IT First Eagles are in the KO Cup final where they await the winners of the Cradley v King’s Lynn semi-final. gee jay
i think a narrow home win for rye but a bigger home win for the eagles, possibly 48 - 42 & 56 - 34.

Gatwick Rocket
Bradley's crash was very reminiscent of when Luke Bowen clipped Paul Thorp's bike and was catapulted over the same stretch of fence many years ago. Luke didn't walk back to the pits on that occasion.

ruckerroo
Long drawn out affair, some OK racing but a few hold ups . Rye were in with a chance till Branford stupidly got involved in something that had nothing to do with him. Very impressed with George hunter but Eagles were way too strong in the end Hopwoods bike was knackered but he tried hard, spiller was v impressive today

woofers
Well that was awful.....over 3 hours to complete 15 heats. Yes, there were a lot of re-runs, but there was no reason for those to have taken as long as they did. The referee just didn't seem to take charge in respect of banging the 2 minute allowance, instead track grading and watering took place between re-runs, unbelievable. Is it just a co-incidence that the afternoon meetings are long, drawn out affairs ? The evening meetings run along at a decent pace, the track seems better prepared and the racing and atmosphere are better - and I haven't noticed any discernible difference in attendances between afternoon and evenings.
Alex2000
The track didn't need so much watering. Thinking he was conscious of not messing up for Bob
Shadders
The track didn't need so much watering. Thinking he was conscious of not messing up for Bob The home team are well within their rights to doctor a track to suit their own riders. It's what any team desperate to win silverware would do.

westhamboy66
Complete waste of time probably the most boring meeting of the season for so many reasons. Hour and forty minutes to run eight heats. Did the little bundle outside the pits really need the ref to make the long walk to the pits to sort it out. One quick phone call could have done it but no another half an hour delay at which point they chose to have an interval. They call the track staff back but by then they had another ridiculous round of watering and grading. Overwatered so no surprises to see yet another race stopped immediately after the interval. Had this gone on at Rye all the comedians would be out to take the mick but of course this is Eastbourne where things are done right No sour grapes as Eastbourne are better by two riders absolutely no reason to doctor the track. Between the Ref and the track people this was the sort of meeting that make fans think twice before coming back.
stevec
The track didn't need so much watering. Thinking he was conscious of not messing up for Bob I would have said that until some friends came round to see be on the stock car track, They had been standing on the grass bacnk between turns 3 and 4 and were covered in dust. I am not sure you can help meetings with so many exclusions being drawn out. One thing I would I would like to see is a 30 second warning to get to tapes after a false start. Shadders
Yeah I know but after a race that only got to bend 2 was a bit ottEastbourne have to be successful on the track to please the fans who are used to better days. If it means preparing a dodgy track, then that's all part of the plan.I'm not saying for one minute that the Raiders would've gone through had this not happened. Eastbourne are the better team, no doubt. There's no need to over water the track to help the home team. No need whatsoever Edited September 20, 2015 by Shads
