2016 Gp Riders

Recommended Posts

IMO There is no way Greg Hancock will retire. I watched him talking in the GP the other day and can just tell he is still as enthusiastic as ever to keep going and he is still super fit and still wants to win every race. I would be shocked if he steps down and there is no way he should give up his spot and younger riders should earn it!

So IMO:

Woffinden

Hancock

Pedersen

Zagar

Iversen

Holder

Doyle

Janowski will prob be top 8

Zmarzlik

Pawlicki

Harris

Wild Card

Leaves 4.

Kildemand has been brilliant and deserves a spot.

Hampel injured and is too good to leave out.

Next spot should be filled by a Swedish rider as there isnt one. I would pick Lindback over Jonsson on form this year but it's close.

Final spot is interesting. M.J.J is next highest scorer but so many Danes doesn't help is cause. Batchelor is worse than last year and imo didn't deserve the wildcard spot than. With Jonasson and KK out and Sayfutdinov not interested, it may come down to 3 riders.

Premyslaw Pawlicki - 4th in Gp Challenge but are there too many Poles?

Martin Vaculik - Decent shout and would represent the Czechs but IMO he isn't any better than Batchelor.

Gregory Laguta - Probably edges it for me. No Russians and is an exciting rider plus has never experienced GPs and would win my vote.

It does annoy that we have people saying too many Poles or Danes which rules out a rider.

Pick the best 15 and a competitive wild card. Not kids but a proper wild card who can win races. If this wild card comes from outside the host country so what. In Slovenia the wild card and track reserves were rubbish. Would ticket holders and TV have prefered Emil or Laguta or Vaculik to be given a go.

No disrepect but Craig Cook wont put bums on seats at Cardiff but Emil would.

It's the world championship not a quota system. Wishfull thinking !

Technically, it is a commercial business which means that they do whatever is good for their business.

The "sport" part will therefore be secondary to the business part, which is why we have allot of temporary tracks.

I agree totally about nationalities being ignored when picking the riders but alas commercial reasons always going to play a part.

As far as the wildcard goes, I'd be happy enough just to have a field of 16 and no wildcards but as long as they exist it I guess it makes sense to have a local(ish) involved. Track reserves I don't care about as I hope not to see them in a night given that it means we've either had a tapes exclusion or more likely an injury.

I would not put it past Hancock winning another championship before he retires. Based on this years showing, he should carry on - he is still much much better than the vast majority out there. Why should he stop? Who of this "young blood" is actually better than him?

Totally right Steve with no Emil/Darcy why would Greg quit the series,he is still a viable contender Pawlicki for me is Tai's biggest challenger over the next few years. With Greg still there with a squeak, next year surely Tai has to be 1/3 to get his third world title.? Edited by sidney

And to be honest I totally agree but I am trying to think how selectors would think but sometimes you never know. I would pick the best riders even if it was 8 Danes and 7 Poles although it would be quite sad although this is how the future of speedway is shaping.

On reflection, I would put the 9th place rider in regardless of nationality and that would be Jensen.

Noodles, you must be quite bored to highlight my whole post in regards to Vaculik's nationality. Ok he was former Czech and now Slovak. :/

Understand the commercial business issues but it's unlikely we would get to 8 Poles and 7 Danes. In the near future Sweden is the only problem country but Lindback can maybe fill that void.

For commercial reasons you should want the strongest 15 + a strong wild card who can add to the racing. I don't care if he is from the home country as I want proper racing. Not someone on a push bike as in Slovenia, Prague and Latvia.

The best riders fill seats not someone like THJ who is limited at world level. How many bums on seats would he sell in Sweden. Few if any.

It's ridiculous for people to think Grag Hancock should retire due to the fact they think he is "boring".

I would prefer to watch other riders, so would prefer him to retire.

I strongly suspect he will not take my views into account when making that decision, but that's what I would like.

An interesting view Oldracer. Although I disagree, I understand your reasoning and I wish we could have a GP filled with Chris Mortons, Mark Lorams and Peter Collins.

Wouldn't it have been great to give Alan Mogridge a wild card just for the guts he used to show and there are hundreds oof others across nations and time who you would have wished that that one amazing ride that we all witnessed should have guarenteed them a spot in the World Final due to their entertainment capabilities.

Still this gives me an idea for a topic.

What's that then? "The most ridiculous suggestions for a GP Wilcard?"
