speed ace
Advice from a man who incited fans to sit on the startline with him because he couldn't get is own way . School boy error to sack riders and make announcements before bspa approval?? Or was it intentionally done to bully the bspa to bend the rule, as this now surely leaves the panthers with two riders who know are expendable, or looking else where for replacements ( who would also require bspa approval). Oh dear oh dear, what a situation to be in, but I suppose that's the way it goes if you adopt bullish attitude
Eduds1
I can't be bothered to read all the posts and if somebody has already asked this I apologise, how can Max Clegg ride for both Cradley and Wolves both designated Monday night tracks. Or is there another rule for FTR.
TheScotsman
From my quick check, about two thirds of Peterborough home fixtures are/were on Fridays - 5 x Sundays / 9 x Fridays from what's left and 1 x Sunday and 2 x Fridays of what's already been run. Of the 5 Friday clashes I found, all 5 involved BV Elite fixtures. 4 x Friday night home fixtures plus a Friday night away fixture at Somerset, There are actually 2 x Mondays as well, and which was my total of 7. But there would be others once fixtures are rearranged and play-off fixtures are arranged. I don't know the arrangements at the Showground, but maybe speedway can't just swap Fridays to Sundays just like that?
Panthers89
Certainly no more clashes than any other Rider double upping.

Panthers89
Amazing how the chairman couldn't make the comment.
StevePark
Let's look at this another way. Cookie needs more meetings and money. Why would he agree to sign if he was going to miss lots of meetings? He wouldn't be missing meetings though would he? If he wasn't riding for one, he'd be riding for the other.

Panthers89
So Scunny have 10.75 left if replace Ashley Morris now as Holub a 7.00 average rider suddenly drops to 3.00, a Craig Cook gap? So does Karger and Bukhave change? Bit unfair on there sides!

wealdstone
As my mother ( GRHS) would have said a "right ruddy hames" . As so often in Speedway six of one and half a dozen of the other. A Rule which allows the BSPA to do whatever they want whenever they want, and a promoter who carries on regardless despite having been given due warning of what would happen. They are like a load of kids squabbling in the playground. How it can be expected that with the standard of person in charge this sport can ever be taken seriously is quite beyond me. I genuinely fear that within the next few years Speedway in this country will not exist.

Popular Post spin king
Read through a lot of the posts and press releases on the subject of Craig Cook and Peterborough. First thing that springs to mind is how poor the initial response from the BSPA to simply say it is not in best interests of British speedway is far to woolly and explains nothing, but they do have habit of of making these decisions and not explaining fully what they actually mean. After reading Rob Godfrey has to say on the matter and his explanation it does become clearer what they actually mean i.e. Peterborough been a Friday night track and Belle Vue (Cook's other British club) been a Friday night track, this the reason been given for Peterborough been blocked from making the move. I looked everywhere to find out whether or not this true and the place I could find the information is the Speedway Star preview edition that states both clubs are Friday night tracks. Okay Peterborough state that Peterborough have a number of fixtures that are lined up to run on a Sunday. But Craig Cook has a contract to ride in Poland who ride on a Sunday, does Craig Cook still have that contract to ride for them or has he had the contract torn up. Because if he has not then there is further conflict there. One of the hot topics for most speedway fans is the doubling up issues in British speedway at this present moment, and the amount of Guest riders used to cover doubling up riders. It has reached ridiculous proportions now, leaving fans baffled and bemused when they try to understand why there rider is not riding for there club but another club another league in British speedway. The blame for that lays squarely at the feet of the past and to a lesser extend present BSPA management committee. With all that in mind I think the block on Craig Cook signing for Peterborough was the correct decision but as I say the initial statement was a poor explanation by the BSPA, and to be fair they deserve the backlash they are receiving at the moment, they need to be far more transparent and clearer, and fans are correct to say as they have been saying for sometime that its needs an independent body to run the sport. My sympathies go out to Craig Cook, Tom Stokes, Nicholas Porsing and Michael Plam Toft who are clearly innocent victims in this mess, and also the Peterborough fans. To be told you have signed a rider of the quality of Craig Cook and the next breathe to be told you have not is a massive kick in the guts. I am afraid that I don't have the sympathy for Ged Rathbone, I think he has been very naive, to announce the signing before it was cleared and ratified was not the wisest move. What ever side of the argument you are on it is a another nail in the coffin for British speedway.
