bigcatdiary
That's the question that should be asked, why doesn't anyone change anything for the benefit of the sport?. Why is it always short term plans? I have a feeling most of them don't actually care, because maybe it's just a play thing to them? I think a lot of it is down to the fact the ones effectively running the sport just don't have the answers to the sports problems.
Emma T
I guess it's always the old addage of a professional sport run by amateurs. I always thought this too. In the 60's/70's and even 80's the sports promoters were the professionals and the riders were mostly amateurs/part time - Now its totally the opposite, 'Professional Riders' and very amateur promoters! I can only presume they don't have a good business plan or are poorly advised. You never see speedway advertised only in speedway media.
Tsunami
I always thought this too. In the 60's/70's and even 80's the sports promoters were the professionals and the riders were mostly amateurs/part time - Now its totally the opposite, 'Professional Riders' and very amateur promoters! It is very easy to manage a business and make big money when the sport is popular. They didn't invest anything back into the sport though. Most of todays Promoters put their own money in, and subsidise the sport to keep it going, whether the fans deserve it is another matter.
spanner47
I'm fairly sure CL has his 7 in mind, as do most other promoters. But if I was a rider I wouldn't sign until Glasgow have completed their team. It's only a short career, and you'd be a fool to turn down the sort of money they're paying. The word on the grassbanks of Mildura the other night was, Berwick thought Richie Worrall would be there, until Glasgow came along with £50 a point more than they offered, can't turn that down. Baldyman
I thought there was a maximum per point that could be offered? Or was that a one season wonder rule. And all the deals were done on travel expenses or guarantees? So is Worrall a done deal at Glasgow? That means most teams put together by us on here are nearly all no goers. So with barker also reported to be Glasgow bound and tungate doing other things. Who is going to be our middle order riders. dontforgetthefueltapsbruv
Probably a bit like the supposed non payment of bonus point money - just ignored or other ways found of making it up.

Baldyman
I have a feeling it could be one of those seasons where we end up with the dregs no one else wants.

I have a feeling it could be one of those seasons where we end up with the dregs no one else wants. As I stated previously on this thread we should go for unknown Swedes or Danes. Jenson when he was at Peterborough or like Jacobson at Rye.we never seem to want to try that route.

If berwick can only offer £20 a point and Glasgow offered £70 it's a no brainier some people would believe blacks white if it was said on the grassbanks
Super Blue
£20 a point is national league money, they would have to score 12 pts a meeting and still wouldn't break even unless appearance and travel expenses were seriously excessive. Don't know where these figures are coming from but they are way off the mark!
