BuzzCagney
There is NO chance a new stadium will be ready from scratch between October 11, 2015 and April 2016. IF there is speedway in Swindon next year it will be several months at (Sh)Abbey Stadium. All Reading fans would warn you not to believe Mr Osbourn - after all he wanted you to race Robins home matches at Smallmead in 2006/7. I'm sure you think you are being helpful but you are coming across as rather bitter (which I understand) but negativity is not really what we need at this point. Trust me when I say the Council were made well aware of GI's modus operandi. If you are that concerned email local MP Justin Tomlinson and reiterate your concerns there. That will be of far more practical value than doing it on here.
Chalkie
Welcome to Cowley Lane Oxford for the 2016 season Sandy Lane-but I wouldn't be surprised!
BuzzCagney
Here is Justin's email address. justin.tomlinson.mp@parliament.uk Maybe it is time, in fairness to remembertheracers, to ask if things are still on schedule because it looks very quiet up there. It can't hurt just to ask.
MattK
Once again surely Mr Russell should give an update to the Swindon fans, he shouldn't leave them hanging/not believing!!!!! It's none of the fans business Trees, as Terry Russell reminded us in recent interview. We should believe whatever flannel the clubs comes out with and should dare not questions them. Here is Justin's email address. justin.tomlinson.mp@parliament.uk Maybe it is time, in fairness to remembertheracers, to ask if things are still on schedule because it looks very quiet up there. He'll just feed you the same old spin and inaccuracies that you have already posted earlier in this thread.
a4poster
So has anyone have any idea if this meeting is definitely on, any definite starters and what format will it take? PS, Thanks Swindon. I emailed you asking about this nearly a week ago as we have to arrange time off from work, arrange travel and accommodation but have had no reply. Is this usual for the Club? If it is no wonder the sport is losing fans.

RobMcCaffery
It is not cynical to express concerns regarding this scheme given what happened in Reading. The lack of development so far both on and off site only heightens those fears. I'd love to see the new stadium built but previous plans to put the car park on the infield and to have homes right by the track including an old people's home rather does stretch credulity and can't help increase those fears. On the positive side if I wanted to pull the wool over someone's eyes I wouldn't tackle Terry Russell....

Maybe this would be a convenient get out clause and allow him to cash in his assets?
capone
fingers crossed it gets built for all speedway fans, we can't afford to lose a historic club like swindon, [/quot e]we cant afford to lose ANYMORE clubs....historic or not.....saints,falcons cheetahs..racers.. lions the list seems endless more gone than we have left

Believe me Reading council were every bit as supportive as Swindon's with all party support. and look at the result. Casino operators and the banking crash were blamed here, you have the threat of really local residents and that land for a new stadium being worth so much more to Mr Osbourn and the developers than dogs and speedway could ever be. Also I think until the closure greyhounds were more viable at Smallmead than Blunsdon, except for the BAGS contract, which could be switched to Poole which they only lease. Mr O could move into Sandbanks with Harry Redknapp then! Sorry if you think I am being negative but with no Reading or Oxford the only viable speedway for me is Blunsdon. But YES Buzz I do agree that locals should lobby the MP and the council and waste no time in doing it. Wackie
Been there, seen it, got the programme board wrapped up in moth balls I honestly can't see how a new track let alone stadium is going to be built in 5 months across a winter period. GI have form with this type of situation, and unfortunately you can only really see Swindon going a similar way. It won't be there fault of course that a new stadium isn't built, they'd have spent hundreds of thousands on planning, specs blah... blah .... blah.... blah. Sorry for the negativity, but I think the realistic Swindon fans see the situation for what it is, and what it's likely to become.
BuzzCagney
We will gratefully accept all advise, I'm sure. I've popped an email off to JT. Hopefully he will reply with more than platitudes, Matt. I will let you know if he replies. As remembertheracers says, we need to get on it a bit and not just sit back worrying. The Pit Crew were awesome back in the day. Are they able to bring some pressure at all? Edited September 13, 2015 by BuzzCagney

Do you think they had any intention of every building the racino? It seems to be as if they would have got on with it as soon as Smallmead closed if they really wanted a new stadium. Wackie
In my opinion, honestly? No. They moved the goal posts so many times with what they wanted and were going to build, had full backing of the council and full planning permission at least twice on plans they submitted. I think the casino opening up half a mile down the road was a welcome 'get out' for them, and of course wasn't their fault!

If they dodge and swerve again in my opinion there will be more than enough to pay off the orange man too. Please organise all the locals you can quickly, lobby the MP,the newspaper, take banners to the farewell meeting etc etc. Edited September 13, 2015 by remembertheracers
mdmc82
I think as somebody has pointed out here 5months to build a stadium is a big risk during Winter. We will have to hope we do not have a bad weather with heavy rain, snow or wind and these are all things that can cause delays.
Midland Red
So has anyone have any idea if this meeting is definitely on, any definite starters and what format will it take? SteveLyric2
Oxford Stadium will return. Swindon could start their 2016 fixtures there and then move into the new Swindon stadium in May/June!!
