Swindon End Of Era Meeting.

What have the developers been doing since planning permission was received? The article claims delays are due to planning issues and seeks to portray it as council bureacracy, but the delay is that the developers haven't sorted these matters out in the four years since planning permission was given. If CO intended to build the stadium on schedule any decent project manager would have ensured these matters were resolved months ago.

Why is speedway always surrounded with such nonsense and BS?

It's been obvious for months that no stadium is going to be built before next March.

Why ... because there are plenty of mugs about ..you only have to read this topic to find them ..of course if you try to point out that a stadium can't be build in 16 weeks in winter it's classed as being negative and somehow anti Swindon ...even after todays statements still we have people thinking that we get into the new stadium by June etc ...not sure when the penny is going to drop for some .

Belle Vue got all sorts of negativity thrown at them with how long it took to get all the authorization through people are now realising how difficult planning regulations can be, Cradley have been looking for years, Swindon are encountering red tape and Coventry will no doubt go through the same frustrations. Ive no doubt both Swindon and Coventry will get new stadiums its just the timeline that is going to be difficult. I hope both clubs dont get the harbringers of doom that seemed to take great delight in predicting we would fail.

How was the 2013 SWC Final? Oh, it didn't happen? BV did fail then.

The funny thing is those of us who said BV wouldn't happen when they said and those of us who said Swindon wouldn't happen when they said were right about BV and now the Swindon promoter is even admitting it looks like we're right about Swindon.

It makes me laugh when people have a "go" at the people who were right.

BV don't have Stadia UK as landlords though. The very same outfit who closed Milton Keynes and Reading more recently. We had hopes and promises at Reading too for a new stadium, then a Racino. I think full planning permission was approved at least 3 times for the new stadium in Reading. What happened? Nothing, still at least after 7 years of the land Smallmead was on lying derelict it looks as though an Ice Rink and Conference centre will now be built there. Seven years of the land lying empty has been hard to stomach when we could of had seven more seasons of racing in the town.

bellevueaces didn't mention success, nor failure, in his post. Rather he mentioned people are now seeing how difficult getting planning regulations can be.

The success has come, but due to planners it has been delayed.

Perhaps this new post David Cameron has assigned to someone to speed such things up ,probably bigger projects then a new speedway facility, but who knows, it may rub off onto some of the "smaller' projects.

There isn't one person out there who trusts Stadia UK. But most don't feel the need to relish the predicament with LOL's on their posts and such like. Its a odd situation for a fan to laugh at the situation I think. As I've said before, mystifying. And, by the by, nobody is right yet. ;)

There is a couple of big differences between Swindon and Reading. At Swindon the stadium is and has always been linked to a greater development that has been given consent as a whole. Indeed, the houses were only given consent on the back of the stadium going in.

Also, Swindon has a Promotion that is viable and wishes to carry on.

So your point is just that the stadium won't be built by, well, lets say May. I've always understood you to be saying it will never be built.

At least we now know why they didn't want people taking souvenirs. if someone had nicked the light bulb from the back straight bogs it could have caused chaos on opening night in March!

The bulbs, there are 3 of them, are worthless, I was more interested in the 1940s metal bog-roll holders that can be sold as antiques or melted down. Someone had nicked that yellowing 60s Daily Mirror when Briggo was world champion.

I suppose there will be a "Welcome Back to The Abbey" meeting with souvenir £5 programme again, Don't think Batch will turn-up for this one. And there wont be any fireworks left.

I doubt it will be build but you can't be 100 % sure ..what you could be a 100 % sure about was that a stadium would not be build in 16 weeks in winter even thou last week we had Swindon fans saying that it could happen because TR told them so ..of course once the tills had filled up on sunday for so called goodbye to the abbey we our now told there will no stadium intill at least june and we will most likely start the season at the abbey .

Ok, thanks for clarifying for me. I'm happy to see there is a bit of wiggle room and your doubts about it being built at all aren't 100%.

Personally I don't care if it isn't finished until the summer just so long as its built.

I am only sure on that 99 % Buzz :P . What I would do is look out for a fire at the Abbey any time soon .

A discarded fag end in those famous loo's would probably take out half of Swindon ....

Just to slightly lighten the subject, as I approached our infamous back straight bogs for what I thought was the very last time on Sunday, I saw a couple, probably mid 40's in front of me. Male to female, (with serious face) " have you ever used these toilets before darling?"

Reply, "no"

Male to female , "i will wait outside for you then"

Clearly male has taken notice of the Lord Lucan theory......

And my thoughts on the new stadium is that I reckon the new stadium will happen. But in my opinion, 2017 is a more realistic proposition.

I took some photos of the beautiful sunset over the Abbey on Sunday and thought it rather poignant! Imagine my surprise when I looked at them later to find that they had been tagged as being taken at a location named Holloway Close & Lady Lane. Perhaps Wellie was having the last laugh!
