Which Fast Track Riders Will Be Promoted Into Any Teams 1-5 For 2016?

Recommended Posts

Draft has to continue but I agree a tweak or 2 is needed. Maybe one draft pick and then at least 2 other Brits in top 6? No point scrapping it now as we will be back to square one. I do think it'll be a huge shame having foriegners on a low average occupying reserve spots though.

It was only a matter of time before people would realise what a ridiculous idea this is. Top Draft riders are more important to the team now than the No1, and that can't be right..

It's not a ridiculous idea. I think it's basically a good idea but like a lot of other things it has been poorly implemented in practice.

It's been good for riders like Steve Worrall last year when it really seems to have built his confidence and helped him turn into the pretty decent r idea he now is, and there have been some good matches when evenly matched reserves have had some good races, but the BSPA messed it up by having riders in who were too good to be in it and all too often we had the ridiculous situation where you could fill the programme in before the race started. We shouldn't be having situations where the EDR reserves have been coming out and scoring 12 or 13 points as has happened. Riders of that standard should be above EDR standard.

I agree with your general point though that the league positions had more to do with who had the best EDR picks at the start of the season than anything the 1-5 could achieve. In other words the competition has to some extent been turned into a lottery. To my mind sorting out the EDR is top priority for the AGM because it will kill the sport in double quick time if we have another season like this one.

Somehow the BSPA have taken what was fundamentally a good idea and messed it all up (a familiar story).

If you have a draft then you cant have protected riders - needs to be a free pick in strict order.

Why? Teams like Coventry & King's Lynn have brought some of their assets through the NL and helped develop them.

More teams should do the same or buy them as assets if they wanted protected riders.

I don't think riders should be protected just because they rode for a team the year before but should be if assets.

The FTR's were good enough this year for them to not need two reserve only races. The normal 15 heat format, used in the PL and NL could have been reverted to and the reserves would have attained real averages.

This needs to be implemented next season and once the reserves have averages then their position in the team is dictated by that average. If they are injured/missing etc then a FTR guest or replacement has to be used in place regardless of whatever that average is.

Absobloodyexactly!

Quite how Leicester were blocked from signing Garrity is a complete mystery isn't it?

Didn't know they tried, did he not want to be brought by Leicester maybe or Rye house wouldn't sell? I know last year that Belle Vue wanted to buy him when draft idea was announced but Rye House said no.

This year he was protected cos he rode for us last year (which I don't agree with) but also because Coventry were sorting a deal to buy him so therefore a potential asset.(so would have been asset)

LOL!

Who told you Belle Vue wanted to sign garrity? It looked like garrity would be allocated to Belle Vue when the draft was first announced (he lived nearer to the track than any other rider) but we will never sign him again. Been there once, lol!

By the way, a team doesn't have to buy the draft rider if that's what you meant by 'brought'.

There was lots of talk at the time the draft was being put together that Belle Vue were considering buying Garrity but changed their minds.

Garrity was to become a Coventry asset so only right he should ride for us this year. If he's not in the draft next year then I wonder if bees will protect Stefan or Sarjeant (or Barker if rumours are true)

You may have heard lots of talk about Belle Vue buying garrity but none of the people doing the talking knew what they were talking about, lol!

I hope Coventry have Barker and if we can't have Nielsen then I'd expect to see Coventry to take advantage of another rider who has come on tremendously at Belle Vue..

Pot and Kettle spring to mind with regards Steve Worrall and taking advantage of a rider who came on tremendously well elsewhere!!

Yes - Swindon could have bought him before you say!

If it's true that Barker has been told by not riding EL this year he'll be on the draft (same with Richie Worrall) then I'll laugh - bees lose Garrity to the 1-5 but gain Barker in reserve! I'd expect the points limit to drop a point or two next year as well meaning the Bees would in effect be swapping Barker for Robbo/Howarth while all but Wolves would have to make changes!

All the top riders in the draft this year, should have been given a full team place, they where just to good to be riding in a reserve spot, it was rather silly when they came with a 15 point score at the end of the meeting, not just on the odd occasion either. It was these top riders who got the 4 teams into the play offs. They had already shown their worth last year, I was tottaly gob smacked when I saw that they had been held back for another season.

Are the promoters scared to give these young up and coming British lads the honours they deserve.

Lets get the resersve for next season on an even basis, shouldn't be to hard to do, but we are talking speedway here, so nothing is that simple.

Nothing changed except it was British lads scoring 9,11, 15 points from reserve, instead of foreign ringers!! So it was better...?
