I see, because the PL is far from healthy that makes the EL okay then?

It's all relative but British speedway needs to find a SUSTAINABLE level rather than live in a dream world where a few simple things need to be done to make it all perfect and have all the 'names; return.

This thread inhabits that dream world where tracks are begging to move into the EL. May I suggest you stick to Fantasy speedway leagues because you're doing nothing to help save the remains of the sport in Britain.

The crowds do not justify flying riders in from all around the world anymore. I wouldn't expect you to see the bigger picture but I'd have hoped the Wolves fans might have been a little more clued-up.

Just because you want things to be a certain way doesn't mean all you have to do is shout and demand for it to happen.

As ever, the situation is a damn sight more complex than your sad, simplistic approach. Look beyond the end of your nose for God's sake.

Yes the PL has problems but far less than the appalling mess that is the EL - living on past glories and thinking that something 'will come up'.

If your only defence of the situation is 'Well the other league has problems" then the EL really does have no future.

It's not often I defend one of orion's post's, but his main point was the race night's to avoid d/up clashes,he only mentioned that the PL too has problems, he never said it was worse or as worse as the EL.

How do you gage that the pl is in a better place ...is has the same problems not enough people paying to watch the sport ...the same % clubs find themselves trying to stay alive no matter what league they are in ...a complete myth that Pl is in a better place ....speedway is in big trouble at every level it is that simple .

What about this retainer that's been mentioned for unused squad riders? Look what happened to using a number 8 when operating R/R, that was stopped to save having to pay a rider that didn't get a ride, now you're saying that clubs will be able to afford to pay 2 maybe 3 riders money when not being used? Where is this money coming from....?

I'm not saying that clubs can afford it, I'm just quoting what CVS said.

Don't shoot the messenger!

So who are Wolves going to bring in as the newly appointed number eight squad rider ?

Joel Andersson seems to be the most likely as it was hoped to have him in the team this season or next and is clearly on the radar as the next Swedish Wolf to follow in the footsteps of Karlsson, Max, Lindgren etc.

Maksim Drabik at Wroclaw is another fast emerging star from Poland and being a team mate of Tai, contact would be easy and if required can fly over Monday morning, but will the Poles want to risk their prized under 21 asset.

There are a few more possible riders to introduce but I don't see why you have to at cost fly over a foreign rider when you have riders like Ben Barker or Stuart Robson or even Zach Wajtknecht available over here. Think Zach is a brilliant prospect and if the club can get him it would be a great signing.

Wajknecht would be an interesting one should you get him. Brilliant prospect for the future, but could be throwing him in at the deepend if he had to replace someone at 2-5 in the team, as he's still probably weaker than all the draft riders. If you could get Drabnik, I'd have thought he'd probably have been in the original team!

Whoever the 'new' rider at number 8 is I assume it will be a new to British speedway foreigner.

Isn't that what the promoters agreed?

Zack doesn't fit this criteria.

There is also a number 9 position that hasn't been announced yet but I would think Wolves would go with Matt Williamson.

As Lakeside are now using a shared role with Edward Kennett and Richard Lawson, would it not be a good idea to name RIcky Wells as sharing the position with Sam Masters to help with any fixture clashes with the Premier League.

Sam may get the majority of the meetings but at least with RIcky we are getting a rider suitable to cover when there are fixture clashes or injuries.

Lakeside now have 9 named riders with the new number eight and if there is a number nine it would take them to 10 riders. .... Who said a squad system would never happen !

Ben Morely as second Tier two reserve takes it to 10.

Looks like a squad system through the back door for those who want it.....not a bad idea but the communication from the governing body has been dreadful.

Should have been introduced before all teams starting building their line up. Not keen on it being introduced one month before the season starts, its hardly fair on clubs that have built their sides without this being an option.

That was my understanding all along!

Matt Ford's original proposal was for the No.8 to be an 'untried foreign rider' - in order to unearth some new talent for the future.

What seems to have been agreed is that the rider needn't be 'foreign' and mustn't have ridden EL previously - which opens up all sorts of additional options,(certain Aussies spring immediately to mind) including not to have one at all!!!!

Who said it has ever started????

It was accidentally told at the Bspa forum on Sunday that teams can name a number 9 who will be eligible to cover the number seven position if required.

As it appears the plan was to allow riders to share a position in the main body of the team but this was to be held back until 2017 but obviously Lakeside have been allowed to let two English riders share a second string role in Kennett and Lawson.

The bspa have not announced it because according to Nigel Pearson the rule has not been written into the scb rule book just yet.

Is it a rule then ? Must you sign 3 more riders ? Perhaps its not in the book until the usual's have got the riders they want & the other clubs can have the leftovers eh ?
