As an Elite League outsider my opinion is that both leagues should work together towards single race nights for both. For example if Elite was Thurs and Premier Friday then the GP boys could fly in and race then go to their GPs while doubling up guys only have to be in the UK for 48 hours, it would also allow weekends to be free to watch televised speedway and also not lose riders to GP Qualifiers and National events, I'd also have a 3 Brit minimum in the Premier to encourage home growth. I realise this will probably never happen.

Would the BSPA not have conducted some kind of "straw poll" with these "superstars" before making such a decision? If most "superstars" said no, then the BSPA would not have gone along with the plan for fixed nights from/in 2017 season..

Peter Adams was asked to speak to all the GP boys and they were all keen.

It's a bit like a fan asking a rider something ~ they'll just say what they think you want to hear. I'm not convinced the top riders will suddenly all start riding over here again if there are 2 set race nights but I guess we will find out in 2017.

The set nights for the Elite League is being talked about but the riders, promoters and stadium landlords have different ideas on which nights so it will need working out which way British Speedway wants to go.

The riders like Woffinden or Pedersen or Iversen etc want just ONE set race night and that would have to be Wednesday or Thursday. However Wednesday would appear best as a number of Premier League tracks use Thursday nights.

However SKY want Mondays and the sport need that money and more if they are looking at bringing back the big names for about 14 fixtures. SKY may be tempted with Wednesday but that would clash with Champions League football which is mainly BT SPORTS during the months it overlaps. Riders don't want to rush from GP to Poland to Britain and to Sweden in four consecutive days but under a squad system this may be able to be used.

However British Speedway appears to be looking at TWO set nights of Monday for half the fixtures and Wednesday for the other half if clubs only operate one meeting a week.

Mondays don't clash with anyone and Sky want that night so it seems likely it will be Mondays but depending on which way they go and who they want back would make a second night either required or not at all.

no way on earth will all clubs do Monday or Wednesday 1/2 of them will be finished midway thro season

It's nothing like a fan asking something at all.

Adams and other EL promoters speak to the top boys all the time about racing over here. And I'm sure they have a more professional relationship with the top boys than a casual fan.

However you make a valid point that I'm not convinced either that all the top boys will suddenly appear in 2017. That could only be a pipe dream.

However 2 set days is better than what currently doesn't work for most of the top boys.

Some will be interested but until we fall in line with the rest of Europe it won't entice everyone.

Friday and Wednesday are the two days being looked at. As Tai says, Riders don't want to race in Poland and then rush here for Monday

I doubt Friday is an option given how many PL teams run on Friday, plus clashes with GP's would be ridiculous.

Wednesday and one of Monday/Thursday I would imagine are logical.

However it's down to the promoters or more importantly the greyhound/non stand alone tracks.

Would Wednesdays be a sensible set night ? Many clubs including your own are looking to bring in the young ones as the future spectators of the sport , surely a school night is a poor option ? Why are we now looking to dance to the tune of riders who may or may not ride in the UK anyway , could clubs afford to bring in the Superstars even if they became available ? Would it be a good idea to ASK US SUPPORTERS WHAT WE WANT ?

THIS supporter wants a regular night ,regular racing ... If this means not pandering to a few who may or may not come to the party when they get their own way ie GP SUPERSTARS ! .... I am of the age when the prospect of The World Champion coming to your track was a big deal ..COLLINS ,OLSEN , MAUGER , TR ... They used to turn up & if they got beat it was news !!! I know its not like that anymore but there are very, very few riders who would boost an attendance weekly that would compensate what a club would have to fork out to sign them ..... THE ACES, STARS ,BEES ,ROBINS, DUKES ALL rode on Saturdays REGULAR RACE NIGHTS ...TIME TO WAVE GOODBYE TO THE GP BOYS & Create our new heroes who want to be here EVERY MATCH !!

This is all getting stupid!

With riders not wanting to ride in the UK on Mondays, supporters who have children not wanting a week night because of school the next day, Poland riding on a Sunday, Sweden on a Tuesday, GP's on a number of Saturdays and PL clubs almost every night including Sundays - what's left?

There is an old saying: You can't please all of the people all of the time but you can please some of the people some of the time!

Everyone has a choice. If the chosen night(s) suits you, go to speedway, if it doesn't, then tough find something else to do!

Hard talking, yes but it is plainly obvious that NOT everyone can be accommodated with their likes and dislikes and some will miss out, such is life!

UK speedway has to do something which accommodates the many and not the few and if it does not find a compromise for either riders or supporters, the sport will end in the UK and then there really will be something to moan about least of all which night to run on!!!

Its not just the GP's which keep riders busy on Saturdays, there are SGP qualifiers, U21's, Euros, SWC qualifiers etc etc. The days of top flight speedway on Saturdays are long gone.

We are very much at a crossroads, either a big effort is needed to get the world's top riders over here again or we need to forget about them. Either way something needs sorting with the PL to avoid the endless fixture clashes for double uppers.

It could be argued that the Sport was all well & good with a one off World Final (Att 100,000 ) & regular race days ..Then along came the GPs & the rest is history ..BUT they do get 40,000 at Cardiff .. Discuss !

It's not simply about dancing to the tune of top riders. Having set race nights for the EL and PL will also solve the far more pressing issues of riders missing due to clashes. This was a scourge on last season and in my opinion is the single biggest issue in British speedway which needs to be address.

I started going to speedway as a kid, and I went to school the next day! And it was a weekday (Tuesday) it was something to look forward to once school had restarted after the weekend, most posters on here must be of a similar age to myself, and therefore also attended on school nights... Are we saying now that kids are in bed by 9pm on a weekday night! I just don't buy that!!

Me too. I couldn't care less if Greg Hancock, Nicki Pedersen, Tai Woffinden, etc. can't be bothered to ride over here and am quite happy with the 'lesser stars'. Changing the race nights will be a disaster and more fans will be lost to the sport so where is the money going to come from to pay for these G.P. stars who will suddenly come flooding back? What a load of old tosh.

Quite right but who says fixed nights is pleasing the majority or will make more fans attend that don't now, there is no proof !!!!

Just going by what Rosco & Horton have said about Friday. Would be every fortnight when no GP

It won't be Monday as riders don't want to rush from Poland to here on a Monday.
