FAST GATER
So we have EL & Pl teams on fixed nights ( some tracks closing because of the restricted use due to leasing the venues) and still non of the super stars back because of the lack of money promoters are able to pay them .We would then have a glut of PL riders who would be lost to the sport as there would not be enough teams for them .The GP's are a good example of what has happen to this sport with most EL teams not being able to race on or near weekends thus losing some fans IMO. Fixed nights will not work in this country we would have had them years ago if they were workable and the sport was in better shape ( 7 EL riders not 5 and 2 NL per team for a start) ,if you want the riders to come to this country you will have to PAY them as they are self employed mercenaries. ( no disrespect that's how they earn their living) Edited January 1, 2016 by FAST GATER
Bagpuss
Most of the top riders have ridden over here fairly recently so the points money is obviously not an issue, give them less meetings on regular nights and many will come back.

( no disrespect that's how they earn their living) How do we know the riders won't come, it hasn't even happened yet. The top boys have been saying it for ages that they would be more likely to race on set nights in the EL. Poland have been the cash cow for years yet the majority of the top boys were still here up to the recent years. Clearly we haven't paid anywhere near as much in many a year yet it's only the schedule that has put a lot off recently. Obviously the amount of meetings will put some off however job sharing is an excellent way of enticing some of the back. If it means paying MORE to watch the top riders again then it's a small price to pay. I for one am hoping that the EL goes down the route that has been needed 5 seasons ago . The promoters have at last smelled the coffee.

Shale Searcher
Would the BSPA not have conducted some kind of "straw poll" with these "superstars" before making such a decision? If most "superstars" said no, then the BSPA would not have gone along with the plan for fixed nights from/in 2017 season..
Gemini
I will just have to beg to differ on this one Me too. When......or if......the E.L. has set race nights it will be interesting to see how many different excuses the so called 'top riders' will use to avoid riding over here.

How can it pay to fly to UK, take 4, maybe 5 rides, then fly out again!! And have competitive equipment, and A competent mechanic to maintain that equipment over here... Just doesn't add up.
Woz01
The way Poland is going i wouldn't be surprised if top riders do filter back in a few years. Polish Speedway seems to be in a right mess at the minute.
mdmc82
So the set night in uk would be Monday & which other ? Rosco said Friday was one of the fixed race nights for 2017. The other night that is mentioned a lot is Wednesday
hyderd
Most if not all Dog tracks are finding times hard and could be more approachable to the wishes of their speedway clients than in past seasons.

ouch
30 Fridays before the cutoff, less 11 GP's and 1 SWC leaves 18 usable Fridays.
MattK
Rosco said Friday was one of the fixed race nights for 2017. The other night that is mentioned a lot is Wednesday I think that is more his "wish" than a serious proposal. The number of clashes with the PL would make it impossible. phillipsr
Surely Thursday is one? Isnt that why Kings Lynn moved dates
Woz01
Friday will be one as 3 EL sides already ride Fridays plus Leicester are rumoured to want to. Coventry dont usually ride GP weekends, think people just use the GPs as an excuse to be honest. Plus some clubs could ride home meetings on either of the two nights. BWitcher
If it's Friday, its utterly pointless. The whole point of it is to have the EL and the PL run on separate nights.. massive problems are solved instantly by doing so.
Tommy Sweetman
Most if not all Dog tracks are finding times hard and could be more approachable to the wishes of their speedway clients than in past seasons. Dont think you will find all dog tracks are having hard times.I know who makes the most profit at Monmore if its a toss up between speedway and greyhound racing. As ive mentioned before,Wolverhampton being a BAGS affiliated track, and all their races being streamed online(especially Asia)they dont have to rely on paying customers for their revenue. In fact id be suprised if they needed a single punter to come through the turnstiles to make a profit. Thats why i think CVS,s hands are tied on available race nights for speedway. Its quite obvious that Ladbrokes want speedway on Monday,s and the odd meeting on Tuesday. But not sure if either of those(certainly not Tuesday because of Sweden)is what the BSPA want regards fixed race nights in the UK. Remains to be seen if things are going to happen in 2017.But personally i wouldnt bank on any changes taking place from what they are in 2016.
