LeicesterLion39
I personally think this team looks weaker than last year's. Leicester will be relying heavily on their reserves. How many of the available points have they used in team building? Its bound to look weaker for a start at Number 1 as no-one could replace Doyley, for a start we are much better at reserve and i dont thinkwe will be relying on them as much as you think. Klindt's average is 3.53 so he has the ability to put at least 2 points on that, Wozniak is more than capable of putting a point on his average now he has seen the away tracks, Ulamek will i have no doubt maintain his average or put half o a point on at least, and Walasek can also put a point on his average adn so can Hougaard. All in all i think we have a well balanced team who will surprise a few teams this season. Oh and just remember the reserves will chop and change.
Big Al
Looks like Paul Starke will be key........providing the 1-6 do what they can, and don't go getting injured all over the place or bugger off when other things get more tempting (but that's a very big "IF"). I don't think the No.7 is able to move into the 1-5, he's fixed at 7 for the season. Basically a side built within a tight budget, especially with no main sponsors at the moment. Makes you wonder how they could have afforded Doyle this season anyway. Heats 13 & 15 could be a problem against several teams.

weatherwatcher
I can see me spending more time at Darley Moor, this year than at BP. Will just have to see how things go, but not much in the way of being optomistic about things so far. May be in for a suprise, thought Norrie said at the end of season speach, track side, that there was no way that they would be having any Danes in the team again, so what happened. stevebrum
On the plus side Leicester have the strongest reserves. However the signing of Hougaard is hardly likely to be too exciting. On paper extremely weak, but similar to 4 or 5 other teams.

But what a poor, lop sided league it looks. Two sides miles ahead of the others, one reasonably competitive and then five which look poor with Leicester the worst of the lot, mainly because of a too higher points limit for the riders available. Lets hope no club goes silly with the chequebook during the season in an effort to be competitive and ends up in financial trouble and that next year's proposed changes do some good as the EL badly needs a shot in the arm.

Next years proposed changes, i take it you mean a squad system ? Well imo that will still bring its problems. set night/s will do the same, and how would you impliment a squad system when riders will still not come over here. Unless Poland fall down a hole many riders are happy with there lots, and also do not want the added travelling. mikebv
Looking at the teams, I would suggest quite a few could be assisted by scheduling matches when their No1's are missing and try and use Holder, AJ, Zager and Doyle as guests... Set nights away from PL has to be the first requirement, and if its two nights a week rather than four I believe some riders who have binned off the EL will come back. I think squads are also needed and will work, riders don't seem to want 30+ meetings a season over here but 15-20 might work. The most important thing is to get teams as even as possible and eliminate all of the R/R and guests which we are inevitably going to get again this season.

Yes the title will be Poole's for the 4th year running. How depressing and boring is that, unless you are a Pirates fan of course.

robert72
Leicester City has surprised the football world with no big stars at the start of the season and are top, maybe the Leicester speedway team can do the same and win the league ? Who knows
Bagpuss
And how do you propose to impliment a squad system ? There is the Starman 'can't do' outlook once again. How about we implement it in a similar fashion to Sweden where it seems to be successful? To my mind you sign ten riders and can use any combination of those as long as your match day team comes under the points limit using the averages those riders started the season on. Should be no need for R/R or guests and riders who don't want to ride a whole season of 28+ meetings don't have to. Certainly not going to entice every top rider back over here but would encourage some to return.
