Speedway On Satellite

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any details of speedway that can be viewed on a setellite system?

I can pick up lots of european satellites, but wondered if anyone had the satellite name, channel name, day and times of any speedway that is broadcast. Obviously not Sky or Eurosport.

Thanks in anticipation

If the OP can pick up several satellites he almost certainly already has a motorised dish. A fixed installation capable of receiving Sky's service via the Astra satellites might also be adapted to received the nearby Hotbird satellites but is highly unlikely to receive much more, and certainly not with a standard Sky box.

As for channels the complication is encryption so I suspect very few channels showing speedway are free to air. Certainly the main services in Poland and Sweden, N-sport+ and C-More are encrypted but there might be a chance of picking up coverage on say, a Danish channel.

The international versions of Eurosport will carry Swedish league and the SEC/Best Pairs run by OneSport should be free to air if he doesn't have a UK subscription that includes the British versions. Sadly it's only the latter that carries the SGP in English.

So,. the answer is that there may be some but speedway's not much of a priority outside the major speedway nations. Of course you can take out a subscription to overseas services. There are of course less legitimate ways to watch encrypted services.

There was a time when Sky UK was on the Astra satellite at 19 degrees. In those days you could add a second LNB to your dish and pick up Hotbird. Since going digital Sky has operated from a satellite at 28 degrees. It would be impossible to mount a second LNB now to pick up Hotbird on one of Sky's new and smaller dishes.

There are plenty of non-British stations on Astra 28 so there are no grounds for assuming that the OP has a motorised system.

Given the means with which to tune into Canal+ Sport TVP and NSport on Hotbird then there is the matter of decrypting their signal. I suggest reading up on the subject of "cardsharing". Do a Google search on cardsharing and cccam to find plenty of information on the matter.

Bottom line, if starting from scratch expect to pay £500 (loose round figure) on hardware and about £70pa on subscriptions to open everything you want up for you.

I would wait until the EU-commission have decided whether or not geoblocking is in violation of EU rules regarding free movement for goods and on EU's inner market.

Bloody European Union again. What a pain in the bottom it is.

I wish to heaven we were out of it.

Please name those stations. To help you, here is a list of all channels carried on Astra 28.2E. http://www.lyngsat.com/Astra-2E-2F-2G.html Good Luck!

I do know a little about the satellite industry and am well aware of ways around encryption but it's not something In would be foolish enough to go into detail on a public forum.

As ever you in fact know a damn sight less than you think you do.

Martin, I wasn't just a broadcaster in the early days of satellite but also a close student of the subject over the 30 years following.

I shall leave you in your dream world.

Ian, Geo-blocking is imposed not by the EU but by broadcasters and rights holders so that say an American programme supplier can make multiple sales into various EU countries. In the same way sports rights are sold for particular markets. Thus the SGP is sold to Eurosport for transmission in Britain and Ireland, and different stations in Sweden and Poland, for example.

To enforce those rights geo-blocking is used so that a viewer in Poland can only watch on Polish TV.

In the same way it is used to only allow people in Britain to use the i-Player. As I'm sure UKmartin will chip in there are ways to get around this.

Whether we have one European TV market with just one service showing the SGP or football's Premiedr League for example or carry on with deals in every country is a tricky choice and one which we do need the EU to investigate and act on.

As ever, the press in Britain have done a superb job of brainwashing much of the population to blame everything on the EU by focussing only on the absurd trivia such as straight bananas.

When in doubt it's always easy to blame Johnny Foreigner.

Thanks for the information rmc.

In this instance I was not blaming "Johnny Foreigner" I was blaming an Organisation that I have been totally against since Ted Heath conned us in to believing we were joining a Common Market. Even those who Voted for the Common Market did not expect things to develop as far as they have, in particular the right being removed from us to say who we will have and who we will not have in our Country.

What the fish'n'chips are you babbling on about?

I've had a motorised satellite setup running for nearly 20 years and have watched the hobby develop over that time and have adapted to the new technologies as they have happened.

I know damned well about the Lyng sat Web site and I know what's on Astra 28 - my receiver is tuned into them all.

If you bother to read my previous post you'll see that I named the stations that are contracted to carry Polish Speedway.

Next time you post I suggest that you start from a more sober and less beligerant stand point because there was nothing in my previous post that deserved anything like that rabid character assassination attempt of yours.

If you want to be seen as king of this thread, well someone go get you a crown. You've deserved it. I'm outta here.

This is one of the positive things that it does. Why on earth should I not be able to view particular content from somewhere else in the world, particularly if I've paid for it? Geographical restrictions are old fashioned and outdated and the European Commission is perfectly correct to investigating these sorts of monopolist practices.

But why let that get in the way of general uninformed rant...?

So,. the answer is that there may be some but speedway's not much of a priority outside the major speedway nations.

But Philippe tells us the SGP is viewable in more than 100 countries...

I'm still trying to find it here in Australia, a country that's actually staging a GP.

I KNOW Australia is a big country but you cannot be looking very hard...

You're quite right. I found it's on Fox Sports 5 at midnight tonight, but I had to guess it was on there and then search through the channel listings because it didn't show up by default.

Would have been easier if there was something on the SGP website pointing out where it's being shown and even better when.

I had the same problem over here.

I checked the post Saturday morning and there was no letter from Eurosport telling me the GP was on that evening

I checked my e mails every hour but again nothing, I waited in all day in case Eurosport or BSI sent someone round personally to tell me it was on but nothing.

In the end I had to do like you and look through the channel guide to find out the time and place it was on, totally unprofessional if you ask me

Could you elaborate what your issue with the EU is on this issue? Are you saying you'd rather they don't step in to prevent geoblocking?

I THINK Fox also show it live, as they now do in New Zealand ...

LIKE this you mean ... http://speedwaygp.com/news/article/4398/gorzow-tv-guide

You are right, gp s are now shown live in nz, though on Sky not Fox (fox doesn't screen in nz) Edited by waihekeaces1

He won't even know what it is. It will just be (yet another) ill informed, zero researched rant.

NO response from Humphrey! How odd...

I commend you on your research. However, if you can find that information linked from the GP event pages, then I'll also congratulate you on your greater powers of observation. I had to scroll through three pages of news items to find the television information.
