I enjoyed Saturday night, perhaps only about 5 potential talents there, but they rode well on a track that is challenging to more experienced riders. The track had only one line, but I am used to that by now, the only rider that got away with going into the 'kitty litter' was Josh Bates, and a big congratulations to him, it didn't look like anyone would challenge him on Saturday. Congratulations to Liam and Luke who both rode well, Luke has really come on this year well done.

Not a brilliant crowd, weather will not have helped, but neither was it an event that would attract any other than the devout. It was really nice to see lots of friends that travelled to this event in The B&G afterwards.

Really enjoyed this meeting, probably the most enjoyable of the season, Kieran rode well for his experience, Luke rode brilliantly and was 1 position away from making the semi-final and Liam rode well towards the end of the meeting but was unlucky in the semi falling on the first bend, a special mention has to go to Jack Parkinson-Blackburn who rode incredibly well for his first time at the track at a mere age of 15 years old, he could be a real talent!

Saturday night showed that Berwick fans would support National League racing, should that be the option. And maybe, looking at the bigger picture, could be used as a template for how to get the sport back on a solid footing. Sell the sport, it was a great site to see a large group of sponsors on the centre green to watch the racing. Look to bring through young, local riders. Local businesses and fans can identify with local riders more readily. All the young fans were let in for free, I know this is something Berwick has done all this season (and I thought Dick Barrie does a great job with the mascots).

Reduce costs, sell the sport, get as many corporate sponsors in as possible. Might just be the saviour.

There was a core support on Saturday, as there always is at Berwick, it was also a meeting that was the last of the season, to base anything on this one event would be a bit naive. Fans like myself will support any form of speedway so in that sense the core support would support N.L. The rest is about promotion which all of your points are valid, the problem generally is only the people who attend are recieving the message, the general promotion beyond the speedway faithful is probably very weak. The only club in the North achieving that goal at the moment is Glasgow.

Glasgow are doing a great job in this regard, the majority of it through social media, which is free. Advertising on local radio, local newspapers is expensive, so you have to be clever in the way you use it. But a lot of promotions would do well to follow Glasgow's example, as they have said in the Speedway Star, they are now attracting the number of fans which allows them to run at a break even figure.

They have also managed to Promote via the normal media in quite an extensive way, if they have paid for that, then they evidently see the benefits of it, it's more likely though that they have a good Promotion team and understand PR.

According to quotes in e-Newsletter last night, this meeting was very well-received by the powers-that-be, and the sponsors.

Meeting seemed to go well, track rode well, considering the weather that day, good facilities, lot of sponsors there, hopefully (should the club have a future) it will encourage the BSPA to hold similar events at Berwick in the future.

Meaning?

Why would the Promotion publish negative comments if there was any, it wouldnt be wise IMO .I also disagree regarding some of Dick Barrie's comments in the last programme but it is his opinion which he is entitled too .Personaly I find the PR a little bit too condescending on some topics, but again that is only my opinion.Sincerly hope the Club survives in these difficult times, the Promotion have done a lot of good work ,but they have also had a hiccups along the way.(excluding injury problems over their time in charge). It doesn't help that the sport is in decline.

Ps.

No better promotion than word of mouth from the people going, for example I know a couple of people who have been and they have said what a great experience they had, so much so they have been again. The transformation to Glasgow Speedway is example of what can happen when something is really promoted on a constant bases, and not just meetings here and there as some clubs do.

Exactly, they have been a great example for others to follow this season. And as they have pointed out in the Speedway Star, they have attracted enough fans where they are now reaching break even point, which I would imagine, for nearly all speedway clubs, would be an ideal position. Let's hope that other promotions look at this and follow suit.

Agree with you, everything is relative, clearly Berwick don't have the kind of money Glasgow have to spend on promotional ideas but for the likes of Berwick a little promotion could go along way. Unsure of Berwick`s break even figure, it would be interesting to know how many times it has been reached this season, judging by the crowds of late not many of those would be break even I would guess.

Very few I would imagine, the two Edinburgh meetings, the two Glasgow meetings, the Sky meeting against Peterborough?
