Positive Thinker
On the point of selling the sport, this is pretty impressive - yet again - from the Glasgow setup. https://youtu.be/cyHUmpl3hfw A huge leap forward from the track videos they were doing there just last year. Superb.
Normski
Dismal, there is some right stinkers from Workington mind, I don't know what Kev done to deserve all the booing and apparently 'all the Berwick fans were calling Wells a wan***' what a load of toshstood on 1st/2nd bend at workington yesterday and never heard any Berwick fans badmouthing Wells.A few of us also shook his hand and congratulated him on a superb performance when he came into bar after meeting.
Lord Lucan
Usual entertaining meeting at DP Wells never really looked like being beaten but Hansen had to work hard for his maximum. Fisher, Doolan and Garcia tried hard for a poor Bandits side, not helped by a shabby performance from Tungate. He's better than that. Special word of credit for Blacklock. He's stepped up big time for Buxton this season, was pretty competitive and amazingly remounted after a fall in heat 10. I trust he will get a few more PL bookings. Fingers crossed the meeting on Friday will at least help to ensure the future of the Comets. The really sad part last night was a poor attendance when the promotion deserve much better. Speedway can ill afford to lose a club of Workington's quality. Well, in a roundabout way to part of my own post I'll take that comment as a "NO" it wasn't a good crowd last night, promotion dipping into their pockets a little deeper this week, shame, that's really not what it's all about, cant keep self funding like this long term definitely no future in that? not sure if there was any music playing as i stand 2nd bend and its been ongoing complaint for a good few years the pa on the 2nd bend is almost useless but out of speedways hands as its controlled by the rugby club and the big problem is 1 off the people in charge of day to day running at the rugby club is and always has been anti speedway even when the rent kept the rugby club alive and helpped clear there debts back in the old days when we had large crowds Think the word your looking for Scarra is "hypocrisy", as you say, many years while the RL club were on the bones of it's arse it took every penny and more that it could to stay alive out of the speedway yet what's happened in return for all that investment, a new bog and lots of cordoned off areas, wow, thank's for that? Always had the idea that the ground was a shared unit for the benefit of both clubs and the town in general, must have got lost in translation then? Goodiepatchie
I wasn't there so I'm only relying on the comments of two posters on here, but it sounds like no music between races. If it's true then that just plays right into the hands of my belief that you have to entertain the crowd for the full night. Just 15 races alone (or more if there are juniors) won't keep fans happy. You need to keep them occupied during breaks. The worst example I've seen at Berwick of that this year was the Rye House cup match, without music the place was like a morgue. And they wonder why crowds are falling. We live in an age where attention spans are getting shorter, people need constant distractions, music, chat, action, whatever it is. there was music on the first bend
Baldyman
At ipswich they play nothing but 70's rubbish, how's that any good for the younger people and keeping them interested. I actually had a good look around at the crowd and would say easily 3/4 of them are over 50, which isn't good for the future

Baldyman
Exactly. So why isn't anything done about it?
screm
Exactly. So why isn't anything done about it? Lethargy from some promoters, an expectation that fans will always turn up to sit or stand through the same dross most weeks, probably why the average age of the average fan is an ageing one.

You're attempted reasons are so far from the truth. I'd be interested to find out how many "experts" have come forward to help with this give the recent invitation for help: as stated, it wasn't just financial help that was being asked for. Speedway "fans" knock the very people who keep it alive. THAT is really where the lack of foresight resides.
jenga
On the point of selling the sport, this is pretty impressive - yet again - from the Glasgow setup. https://youtu.be/cyHUmpl3hfw something very strange on that video, its called music that gets your blood pumping. now turn down the volume and watch it again, thats what we get at workington. sad but true. lets have PROPER MUSIC AND NOISE. not the same old nicey nice stuff. topsoil
I can remember reading in the Speedway Star back in the late 1980's the MC at Oxford saying that the first thing he did every week was put together a tape of music from the top 40 that week to play at the speedway. It's not difficult. Okay some songs are not appropriate, but it's not difficult to put together a collection of upbeat songs. If you watch rugby league or union matches, or T20 cricket, there are short burst of music after a try or boundary. How about one after a 5-1? I know at Berwick they have certain songs if a rider wins a race, good idea. Personally I don't care what era the song comes from, as long as it is upbeat and adds to the atmosphere. And yes, I have sent a lot of thoughts and ideas to the e-mail address for the club. Up to them if they decide if they are good ideas and want to put them into practice.
