RobMcCaffery
Ever considered that people can have logical, thought-out opinions that don't deserve childish insults? Â I just prefer league racing and have always viewed individual events, whatever the label to be an 'extra'. Yes there have been some very good meetings but give me a match anytime. It was team racing that saved the sport from being a nine-day wonder in the 1920s and it was the fact that I had a local team to support in league racing that appealed when I first wandered into Rayleigh in 1971. Â If I wanted individual motorcycle racing I'd have followed other branches of motorcycling that do it far better. Whoever is World Champion is pretty irrelevant to me but then some people go for that kind of thing. Â I'm interested in the World Championship and watch the GPs on the basis that some speedway is better than none, but don't like it when it wrecks the core team side of the sport. Â That's my preference, and one that's been formed over four decades. If that makes me a 'fossil' then your insult is rather irrelevant. I'm not changing that opinion due to childish insults. customhouseregular
I'm not sure if the above post was meant for me rmc but my post was not meant for you. Colin Mills has compared himself to a fossil and I have been called a dinosaur so it was a friendly jibe for him. If anyone cares to trawl through my posts they will see I never post childish insults. Â I too loved league speedway when I had a team to watch, but I also love individual meetings...those that have a serious meaning anyway. Â Keep enjoying your speedway my friend . customhouseregular
cheers, I guess us dinosaurs must be talking in a different language!..gobsmacked at the way a post can be mis-read, and how sensitive people are in todays world...so let me just clear it up by apologising to "myself", for calling me a fossil..... ...Remember when a league had 17-20 teams and league racing was once at home/once away?. Now we get twice at home/twice away + a 50% chance of a 2-leg play-off, meaning some teams meet/play another team 6 times. Â Remember when individual meetings were The Internationale, The Laurels, Brandonapolis, Superama, London Riders Champioship etc. Â Remember when we had British finals with 16 recognised heat-leaders, European Finals, Inter-continental Finals etc. Â Fossil and Dinosaur my a*se...today's fans don;t know what real speedway is .
Red Flag
Vojens inter continental in 81. British final 84. They are the two that stand out to me as being run in truly awful conditionsWembley 75(?) when fans watered the track? Goteburg 1977 ended in really awful conditions
Joe Beevers
customhouseregular did you watch the ladt GP in Poland....best GP I have probably ever seen. Had everything....and more. Â Made a Continental Final from 1976 look like a stroll in the park by the ducks. Â Good speedway is good speedway. The year is irrelevant even if the style, colour and technology was different. Â And I have watched nearly every world final from 1963-94.
customhouseregular
I was away in Norfolk with no Eurosport access but I shall try to watch it on youtube...many thanks for the information. Â My main criticism of today's EL speedway is lack of choice and variety compared to 50 years ago. As you say,.good speedway is good speedway but when I consider that in one season I may have seen 17 different teams in league meetings, an Internationale, Laurels and Superama, a couple of Test Matches, a European final and a World Final, I have to think today's EL fans are short-changed. Joe Beevers
Thats a fair point. I think the attention and the money has drifted off to eastern europe and our country hasn't been the focal point of this sport for a while and probably why there is a far greater depth of young talent elsewhere (although no idea how the aussies keep doing it). Â Events take money and fan popularity. I think its embarrassing we don't even have representatives in the SEC or the Pairs. Â Although I really enjoy the events of yesteryear as there was something really pure and enjoyable about them, unless speedway gets that huge popularity it once had and maybe top sports seiously overprice themselves out of a weekly market, I can't see it happening. Â But watch the last GP, it was one of the far better one's.
mickthemuppet
Â I much prefer league racing as well. Individually, I don't really care who wins. Â But watch the last GP, it was one of the far better one's. Out of interest I have just looked at 2 teams from different eras but with a connection, and compared home fixtures for West Ham 1967 (the year I saw the most meetings) and Lakeside 2015. Â Just compare the number of meetings in each case, the different teams visiting, the galaxy of riders appearing and the variety of fixtures including a WCQR, a GB v Poland Test and the British Final. Â West Ham 1967 had around double the home meetings of Lakeside 2015, hosted 18 different league sides and staged World and International meetings. This is why I say today's EL fans are being short-changed.
brandonbee48
Hi everyone Watching on a nice Polish stream here.  http://www.drhtv.com.pl/drhtv1.html  Much better translated interviews on the Polish coverage and its exactly the same feed.  Alan. This is a nice setting for a meeting. Hope the track is well prepared. We'll see shortly.

brandonbee48
Even better stream http://sportslive.info/viewpage.php?page_id=7 Troy approves of the track anyway. Even with all the replays, it's a tough one. There was a gap for Nicki and Jonasson got caught in a sandwich. So glad Janowski is up, but who'd be a referee?
