Mdlrc Line -up Change

Recommended Posts

Following the injury to Coventry’s Rob Parker and his withdrawal from the MDLRC on Monday 31st August at Scunthorpe there is a change to the line-up.

With Coventry allowed to nominate a replacement rider local lad Mitchell Beckett will replace Parker in the line-up.

Coventry born Beckett was nominated by Wolverhampton for whom he has also been appearing as one of the meeting reserves originally and former Wolves mascot Sam Wright will now line-up as second reserve in the meeting.

What a great afternoon of speedway the MDL Final produced, and well done to the hard and dedicated work put in by the Scunthorpe promotion, in enabling this meeting to go ahead, when every other meeting in the country was rained-off. It's been a funny old season in the MDL this year, with so many riders wearing the colours of so many different clubs, and I have at times asked myself whether this tournament is worthwhile any longer. It still needs some tweaking here and there for 2016, but when you see the startling progress that some of these lads have made in past 12-18 months, it makes you realise that it is worth persevering with. It's only a short while ago for instance, that Alex Wilson for example couldn't complete 4-laps without falling off, yet here we are now, where he's looking very polished, and was a real contender for the title yesterday. So, well done to all the riders, who it has to be said, presented a better race meeting than the earlier Premier League affair, although to be fair to those riders, track conditions weren't quite so good at that point. Team-managers of all clubs, and parents and sponsors of competitors involved, a round of applause to all of you for the massive part you've played in the 2015 campaign, and last but by no means least, well done and thank you to Laurence Rogers and Dale Allitt who have co-ordinated this competition during the summer months, with such expertise. Bravo to you all, and here's to more in 2016.

Shame that the weather meant things were a little rushed , took the shine off the showpiece MDL meeting a bit , as with all other meetings these days, there had to be a ludicrous decision by the referee to complete the occasion .. Big well done to Jack Parkinson-Blackburn ,certainly one to watch there ,and well done to all the riders on a fine display ,

Whilst the meeting moved at a brisk pace (good job it did with the cloudburst just after the final) it was full credit to all riders for being ready to go on time.

The meeting was a cracker. Yes the track conditions curtailed it to the inside half of the track but the effort and skills displayed by all were tremendous. As was the racing, plenty of passing and for the most part very close, hard but safe racing.

Plenty of riders deserved more points than their reward for their efforts but in the end a fine display by JPB to give a fully deserved win however special mentions also go to Alex Wilson, Layne Cuppitt, Callum Walker & Jamie Halder who all played a very significant part in the title hunt.

Hats off to Dale & Laurence and all the unsung heroes who get the league organised, the very generous sponsors and of course the riders for providing the entertainment.

After meetings like this is begin to think the sport has a bright future.

It was a great meeting. I must admit when I got there I was a bit worried we wouldn't get to run it but the track rode superbly (as my good friend Leigh Lanham told me it would after the PL meeting).

A massive thank you to Rob and Gail Godfrey for offering us the venue and to the Scunthorpe staff for all their hard work and help. It all ran smoothly thanks to all the lads co-operating and getting out quickly as we knew the rain was due again at 7 ..and we just made it with the Final and the presentations.

BIG thank you to all the race and rider sponsors who enabled us to give all 18 riders a voucher to spend on the spares van (thanks to Darren Miles for getting the goodies for the boys to buy) and give vouchers to all four finalists plus medals for all riders.

Thanks to Dave Roscoe (DSR ) for supplying all 18 riders with fuel, to MICK CHAPMAN TROPHIES of Ashford, Kent for the magnificent hand carved trophies for the first three . Thanks to ex-Newport promoter NICK MALLETT for supplying and sponsoring the race jackets.

League sponsor Gary Drinkwater of CITY GEARBOXES was the meeting main sponsor underwriting all the staging costs.

Congratulations to the 2015 MDL Champion Jack Parkinson-Blackburn along with 2nd placed Layne Cupitt, 3rd Callum Walker with commiserations to Alex Wilson who shed a chain causing him to fall in the Final.
