topsoil
There are still a lot of committed fans around Berwick and ones who have sadly lost interest in the team and sport because of the way things have gone this season. If the right promoter came along and actually actually went out and worked at bringing fans in, then worked hard at putting a show on to keep them there, Berwick and speedway in general wouldn't be in such trouble. What really got me last night was the plea for fans to take away posters and put them up in shops. Isn't the work of promotion down to the promoters? The clue is in the title. Supermarkets don't rely on their customers to do their advertising for them.
Normski
Something has to be done drastically to make people realise we have speedway in Berwick. Get a rider and a bike in one of the entrances to Tesco.Asda Morrison's hire the town hall just make people aware we have a speedway team.

Supermarkets don't rely on their customers to do their advertising for them. This has been a thorny subject on here at times, but your right the promotion of speedway at Berwick at times isn't very good. Look at way the new Glasgow promotion have promoted their product, brilliant, now they are getting crowds three or four times that they are getting at Berwick, yes there`s a larger catchment area but its all relative, better promotion might get an extra hundred or so more through the gates and that extra hundred could be the difference between having speedway next year than not. It some ways it would appear some at the club have all but given up. Any of the team would be good . I wasn't meaning as rider , I was talking about using Liam a local guy to help promote the club in the local area . Obviously we have Liam living in Berwick, but we also have Garcia living in the town to, might be an idea of getting young Leom Flint involved to, that might help getting youngsters of Leon`s age there.
topsoil
I have sympathy for the promotion, both very busy businessmen, but if that is the case, why not hire somebody in to run this side of the business. An investment here could produce big rewards, but to do nothing, then you simply get nothing in return. There are a lot of ways the club can promote the sport around the town. I've sent a lot of ideas by way of the club e-mail address and I would suggest everybody else with ideas do the same, just to let them know they are supported. Then lets see if they put any of them into practice.

Remember Kevin Doolan`s inclusion last Saturday was iffy after crashing the previous week against Sheffield and missing the away trips to Ipswich and Scunthorpe, then Somerset lost Grajzonek and Berwick lost Thornblom in meetings on Friday night, though the teams were posted on Facebook during Saturday afternoon, which was also posted on here. I take your point, my reply was pointing out it would've been difficult for the club to get Saturday`s team news out as there were late injuries to riders of each team. As for the forum fannies, its mainly only one person from the club, neither owner nor promoter, who uses that term. But they don't use this forum so we are ok. I have a sneaky suspicion that Glasgow might make a slightly bigger financial loss than Berwick this year. I do agree, though, that they have done a great job at Glasgow. The facilities are very good. Nothing very different on the presentation side on my visit. I think speedway is what it is...

I have a sneaky suspicion you may well be right, especially have spent around £1-5m buying the stadium and investing in Glasgow Speedway, though it seems on a raceday they are on the way to breaking even and there probably not that many teams that can say that.

If you take into account their investment in the facilities they will make a loss ,but if you take into account just the speedway side of things their crowd levels and wages paid they probably won't lose money IMO .Crowd have been decent from what I have been told and their catering and alcohol sales will have brought in a much bigger income. bigeddiechek
It'll depend on how they account for things, I'll leave that discussion for the wonderfully grey world of the bean counters, I'm sure there must be a forum for that sort of thing! They've certainly done a great job, and their P&L will be a good indicator of whether or not speedway is viable with significant investment. Buying the stadium and land has to be a good investment alone.

Agree,Stadium and land is really an investment for them in the future. They seem to be doing the right things though. The sport itself is the problem.
