Eastbourne Eagles Vs Birmingham Brummies 23/8/15 Nl

No point worrying about this fixture, it was written off from the moment the fixture was compiled. Seems most Brummies fans aren't too bothered about it either judging by how few are bothering to post on here.

Take the 3 points Eastbourne. The title won't be won this afternoon. What matters is the meeting at Perry Barr in September. That's the one that will decide on who wins the league.

Er..............hang on a bit we're not quite dead yet! (....as fans of Monty Python and the Holy Grail will recognise)

Don't get carried away we don't have a Snowballs chance at Perry Barr. They out gated us last night, even the struggling bottom 4 were getting out quicker than us a lot of the time and they only picked up 1 point from a 'moving' eagle between them.

After heat 4 Drury said over the mike that the track preparation at Perry Barr would be very different next week. I can understand him being upset at ten points down already, which is a new experience this season no doubt, but the track was in great condition despite earlier rain as the times proved. There was plenty of dirt and the lads were passing round the outside as well as underneath. No bumps, holes or ruts, a well prepared track.

I can only assume he plans to create a slick track next week so that they can use their superior gating and make it difficult to pass. From the Updates it will be interesting to see how many 'from the gates' there are.

I must say the man did not impress me.

typical drury im afraid, track was smooth , slickish but plenty enough material on the outside for ellis to hammer round brad on lap 1 bend 3 of ht 13.

Easy win really with a cert 5-1 in 14 chucked away by the captain, brum were stronger in the heat leaders but abs zero after.

im just not convinced eastie can win enough races at brum to get the job done however im looking forward to seeing spiller ride there, at rye and eastie hes looked anything but comfortable so far yet still scored well.

thought kelsey dugard showed a very composed attitude in ht 14, safe and steady got the money.

Have to say I was impressed with Eastbourne when they rode there against Cradley earlier this season. the Brummies ahve an incredible top three but if one of them has an off night anything is possible.

Hmmm. I think Tom Perry must be laughing to be described as a 'superior gater'.

I think you are wrong I think we will prepare a grippy track as we always do. Unlike the night you visited Cradley who always have the track slicker than we.

Time will tell.

Classic Top Heavy vs Strength In Depth contest really with the Eagles never looking in much danger after heat 2. Ellis was imperious, without doubt best number 1 in league, Richard Andrews back on the gas straight away. Looking forward to the trip to Brum for the return, think the Brummies will edge it, but will the Eagles will keep it close all the way.

The KOC fixture was anything but one way traffic and since then Eastbourne have gained an outstanding 3-point reserve (worth 10 points) and the Brummies still can't find a regular 7th rider. It's going to be "interesting".

Drury isn't a very nice bloke.

typical drury im afraid,

Are you seriously allowing that comment to upset you? And so what if it is different. Isn't the home team entitled to prepare a track the way it wants?

The shape of our track is different too. As in real speedway track shaped. Fancy letting off any steam about that?

It is not just words but the way they are put together with the attitude and manner in which they are presented.

As regards your comment on track preparation there was no suggestion about the entitlement of the home team, simply a projection of what I thought would happen. Frankly this was based on what I personally would do in that position.

I will not waste my time on your final comment.

A speedway track is a speedway track as long as it complies with the rules then it's a track, whether it has banking or its flat as a pancake, slick or grippy, 200 metres long or 400 metres long. Narrow straights and turns or wide open ones does it really matter?

Agree about Ellis, he looks every bit a Premier/Elite league rider. On the day BWD really had no answer for him.

I didn't take Drurys comments the way others did. I think us 'Southerners' can sometimes take Northern (North of the Watford Gap) accents as moaning when in fact its just the way they talk. Look at Peter Adams, he sounds unhappy when he is happy!

Looking forwards to the Birmingham match. I think that Birmingham will win and that will be the title race all but over but I believe that Eastbourne are capable of a result with some luck and everyone on form.

Also, I think the likes of Georgie, Bradley and Daniel will thrive on a grippy track, bring it on!

All of that may be true.

However (To misquate someone famous) Some speedway tracks are more equal than others.

I know which sort of track I would prefer to watch my speedway.

However it has to be said. Speedway is a beggars cant be choosers sort of sport. The reason Eastbourne is the size it is (although it has to be said not the shape.) is because thats what is available. The same can be said for pretty much all tracks in all leagues in this country. Of course Somerset and Scunny have shown the way to go when you can start from scratch.

Prior weather conditions permitting, the Perry Barr track is likely to be prepared grippy anyway because Adam Ellis is generally the only consistent fast gater in the Brummies team whereas Tom Perry and Zach W often have to work their way past faster starting riders.

But whatever the track conditions turn out to be, the ongoing situation remains that, unlike Eastbourne, the restrictive planning permission for Perry Barr does not permit any track practice / training days whatsoever for the Brummies (or Cradley) riders to prepare for meetings and tune engine setups for raceday track conditions, etc. The Eastbourne team will be starting the Perry Barr meeting on a far “leveller playing field” than is afforded to visiting teams at Arlington and both teams will be seeing and adapting to riding the prevailing track conditions at the same time on raceday. Furthermore, the Brummies team will not have ridden at Perry Barr at all for a month with only one extra fixture ridden by the top three at the “Golden Hammer” meeting.

Nevertheless, Eastbourne riders invariably enjoy riding at Perry Barr anyway and Daniel Spiller can surely be expected to be very competitive around the nicely proportioned Perry Barr track particularly against the Brummies struggling bottom 4.

A very tough home meeting ahead for the Brummies for sure but it will be up to Eastbourne to ride consistently strong enough to take maximum advantage of the Brummies team's “long weak tail” situation!!

Drury is just a moaning git who can never find anything good to say about the opposition but always has an excuse for his own teams.

Dury always take a positive away from a meeting in all his statements and press statement he says we have taken positive from the meeting? nothing positive about having no reserves, nothing postive about 4 meetings on the bounce being lost and it could be more.

Graham is a very cool calm customer, they call him the judge by many people but a lot of riders and mechanics call him the grave digger, as he always walks up and down looking at whats going on and keeping an eye on away riders bikes, his eye is on the game from the time he leaves home till he gets back home. Apparnetly he also has the humor of a grave digger. :t:

Eastbourn at Birmingham is going to be a great meeting for one of the sides it may decide the league. But all we know is that no side will give it up. Come on Eastbourne.
