Guest
Rye House Press Release """""""""""""""""""""""""""" Rockets Feel Devils’ Great Drive Plymouth 54 Rye House 38 (Premier League; Friday, August 14th 2015) A near-perfect display by Edward Kennett was not enough to prevent the Restart Rockets slipping to a 54-38 defeat at fast-emerging Plymouth, a result that dents the Rockets’ faint hopes of making the Play-Offs while maintaining the Devils’ own late push towards a top six finish. The Rye House captain was beaten just the once in his six outings – and that by the smallest of margins by Morten Risager in Heat 11 – en route to a magnificent 19 point haul, but with only Danny Maassen (Heat 2) and Robin Aspegren (for his only points of the night in Heat 6) able to add victories, the Rockets fell away from 20-16 to a more emphatic 16 point spread. But if the simple statistics give the impression of a totally one man show and a lopsided contest, then it is a rather unfair one, with passing and tight contests featuring in nearly every race. As Rye House co-promoter Len Silver commented afterwards, “We put up a real fight, and were worth more than the 38 points we got. “Edward was absolutely outstanding, and dropped his only points when he missed the gate entirely in Heat 11, had to come from last place and ultimately only lost out on the victory by a tyre’s width on the line. “I was really pleased with Danny (Maassen), who won his opening race, added another point and then fell while leading Heat 14. “Similarly with Luke (Bowen), who tried so hard for his own 4 points – and that after his bike picked up and threw him off sideways in his first race. “We also didn’t have the decision go our way in Heat 9, when Robin was leading and fell on the last bend when challenged by Jack Holder. “Yes, we were beaten by the better team overall, but we put up a really good fight.” It is a fight that Silver will be looking for his side to continue when they entertain Workington at Rye House on Sunday evening (5pm start). Ahead of that fixture, the Restart Raiders take centre stage at the Hoddesdon raceway tomorrow night when they entertain Cup – and also fellow Trophy - finalists Eastbourne in the City Gearboxes National League. The action gets underway at 7pm. Rye House scorers: Edward Kennett 19 (inc 4 as a TR), Anders Mellgren 4+2, Kasper Lykke 4, Luke Bowen 4, Danny Maassen 4, Robin Aspegren 3, Nicolaj Busk Jacobsen R/R Plymouth scorers: Morten Risager 12+3, Jack Holder 11+1, Kyle Newman 9+4, Todd Kurtz 9, Sam Simota 8+1, James Wright 5+1, Ryan Fisher R/R Match Points: Plymouth 3 Rye House 0 Edited August 14, 2015 by Guest
Baldyman
Wow. One rider scores half the points. Good stuff from Kennett.
ancient mariner
Wow. One rider scores half the points. Good stuff from Kennett. It was impressive indeed. Even in Heat 11, Risager got a belter from the gate and pushed Kennett very wide allowing Simota to come past. Simota crucially held up Kennett for 2 and a bit laps before he got into second place. Had it been a 5 lap heat then Kennett would have won, though it wasn't quite as close on the line as reported above. After a quiet start, the meeting just got better as the Heats came and went. Some great racing last night, with the Rockets contributing fully to the entertainment if not the scoreboard.
Halifaxtiger
Cracking meeting with the highlights being heat 10 and heat 11. In heat 10, Holder had attempted to pass Bowen and Mellgren for three laps when he got outside Bowen on bend two of lap four. He then produced an astonishing inside dive on bend 3 to pass Mellgren and win the race. Great stuff. In heat 11 the hugely impressive Kennett was pushed out on the second bend by Risager which allowed Simota through. Kennett then hunted them both down, only just being beaten on the line. More great stuff. Very good to see SBA back to its excellent best (will someone give Messrs Tatum and Pearson a nudge, please) and huge credit to the promotion and track staff given that it had been raining continuously for 17 hours when it finally stopped at 11am yesterday.
Chris
Those quotes show why Rye have done sod all for years, one rider gets half the points and its slaps on the back and well done all round, Pathetic.

How nice to read some positive posts from Plymouth fans!! Mind you, I'm not sure HT is a Plymouth fan!

Can't claim to be a Plymouth fan....... but I am a fan of their track, their promotion and their supporters because all are among the best in the business.

TrueBee
It was a good meeting but Rye House were poor Kennett apart who was unlucky not to pass Risager on the line. Plenty of action so enjoyed my first visit to Plymouth. Is the portaloo the only toilet available to the public or are there others?

TrueBee
There are more toilets in the brick changing rooms by the pits. Cheers. Thought that might be one for the teams only I'll definitely pop along for a meeting when I'm down near Plymouth again. Good luck with the playoff surge! Super little track, nice set up and now, a decent team. The negative posters are conspicuous by their absence!
Penny Cross
Nowhere near as convincing a win as when against Somerset and Edinburgh. After all if any one of the Rockets had fired up, obviously Kennett excepted, it could well have different. Quite agree about Holders ride. If every meeting had one race like that, we would all go home smiling, even if it was against your side. While on his SRBF collection duties, I said to Jack, about Ht9, 'what ever big Bro can do'...' His reply was' Chris... Chris who'? Very impressed with Risager. Ht7 and ht11 were probably his best rides as a Devil, well, certainly at the SBA. With recent changes, the momentum has swung the Devils way as far as the play offs go. Rye House away will be the tricky one, as normally Newman is appalling there. Maybe wiser to get a sick note for that one, as I'm sure R/R would help the team. Long way to go yet, though. Agree its about time Sky got their backsides down here.
barncooseboy
A SKY visit could be a problem, planning restrictions mean can only race on Thursday, Friday or Saturday

Steady on there, was that a positive post??
