Mike.Butler
Chatting to the big guy at Belle Vue last night he wasn't sure whether he and his team would be utilised at the new stadium. If not it would be a loss as imv they are the best in the country at what they do. Customer focus and all that..... fredbogge
Is there going to be any parking inside the new Kirky lane stadium or is it on street around the close area
Ghostwalker
So how does it work in the UK? Do the teams hire commercial companies or is it handled by volunteers?

arnieg
So how does it work in the UK? Do the teams hire commercial companies or is it handled by volunteers? Varies from track to track. In most cases the revenue goes to the stadium owner, not to the speedway promotion. Where the speedway promotion has control over the car park they are likely to use volunteers, but where the stadium is taking the money it will almost certainly be subcontractors. Of course there are some tracks you can park for free (e.g. Leicester, Coventry, Lakeside, Wolves, Kings Lynn, Ipswich, Rye House, Mildenhall, Kent)

When I last went most fans parked on the Showcase cinema car park across the road for free.....easy access in and out.......do people still park there ?.......there's not many spaces actually in the official Kirky Lane car park aren't they ? Gemini
At Sheffield they subcon to the local institute of thugs, morons and apes. Same at Swindon but at least we had a nice escort to show us the way out of the stadium car park. Just a shame he didn't go right to the gate as we must have made a wrong turning after he left and ended up at the back of the stadium amongst a load of vans but still in the car park. Gemini
Must admit it's awful. At that time though it was the other half driving so it was his fault. Nowadays I do all the driving so have the pleasure of listening to the sat nav instructions in one ear and the other half saying something completely different in the other.
cityrebel
The best car park security firm I've ever known were the urchins that lived opposite hackney stadium in waterden road. Pay a pound or get your tyres slashed, that was the service they provided!
proud panther
Must agree with bendover, the idiots that masquerade as security at Sheffield are the worst that I have ever witnessed.

Gemini
Irene at Blunsdon is a splendid smiley steward, so are most of the others...you must have ended up in the pits car park! There were 2 very nice smiley lady stewards at the first gate who took our parking money and made a fuss of the dogs. It was when we arrived at the Fort Knox end that we were told we couldn't stay in the car park but there was a lay by up the road. We were on holiday and the intention was to see the Bees ride but no way was I leaving the dogs 'up the road'. We'd been to Swindon loads of times before with no problems. The dogs just go to sleep after a long walk at the White Horse, Uffington. (No it's not a pub.) All the car windows are left open, including the roof, although at 7.20pm it's cool enough anyway, and we park where we can see the car from the stadium. Yes, I think we ended up in the pits car park. I was a steward for 1 match, but my plan of watching speedway for free was thwarted as I was sent around the back of the stand to look for kids climbing in. There were none. I work around the North Wessex Downs so know the Uffington White Horse well. The White Horse thatched pub is in the hamlet of Woolstone a few miles away. We take our huge wire-haired Dachshund(sausage dog)Bertie for walks around the Downs, great places to walk in 4 counties of Wiltshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, away from built-up areas such as Swindon and Reading, you have places such as Vale of the White Horse, Avebury/Silbury Hill,The Ridgeway, Watership Down, Kennet and Avon Canal, Barbury Castle, Liddington Castle, Savernake Forest, and the market towns of Hungerford and Marlborough, and a few thousand racehorses train on the Lambourn Downs, just over the hill from Uffington. teddy2706
At Sheffield they subcon to the local institute of thugs, morons and apes. I like everything about Owlerton except them. Good car park, good spectating, good restaurant, great racing, rubbish security! "Ya can't park theere, it's f't Casino", Ya can't stand theere, it's got yellow lines", "Ya can't park thee motabike theere, th's ta goo in't tha area theere". I assume that Sheffield speedway has to be run on a tight budget because I have never seen any other speedway club so top heavy with security and track staff, do the Council insist on such numbers? And how come dogs are perfectly welcome at some tracks, yet verboten at others? That imbecile Porky got someones dog chucked out at Monmore some weeks ago, yet it is a dog racing stadium! Speaking of Monmore, years ago they had two monkeys in the car park (with specially tailored white coats that hid their tails) who delighted in parking visiting fans cars in the bottom of the car park, then boxing them in with home supporters cars who they knew would be late out. They weren't averse to threatening behaviour away from home either....
tyretrax
The fact that it's a greyhound stadium is all the more reason not to allow pet dogs. Who knows if these dogs are up to date with innoculations and could be carrying a virus.

As for the heavy security numbers, all sports venues in Sheffield came under heavy scrutiny after the Hillsborough football disaster and continue to be so.
