Somerset V Edinburgh 11.8.15

Recommended Posts

Edinburgh were very impressive but they shouldn't get carried away with this result - Somerset aren't as invincible at home as they once were with Plymouth tearing them apart two weeks ago.

Riss was especially impressive and Cook imperious.

Wright and Starke fought for every point and Grajczonek got a couple of wins but the rest were poor. Kurtz looked nothing like a top PL performer.

What was most disappointing was that the weather was perfect, we had at least potentially a cracking meeting, there was a huge crowd, it was televised ......and the track was rubbish.

I don't get this "the track was rubbish bit" Cook proved in ht13 that there were plenty of racing lines as he blocked every move of the Rebels pair..Somerset were just not good enough on the night.

Thats what happens when you don't get the bike time? Thanks to bellevue aces

Don't think you can use that excuse - getting plenty of guest bookings and scoring well, just had an awful night last evening - His gating in heat 3 was arguably the worst I have seen in 47 years of watching speedway!!

I am a general speedway supporter, it just happens that Rebels home track is where I happen to live. Brady Kurtz is a young kid and full of all the enthusiasm and the drive we all have or have had at that age and I admire that but he needs to toe the line or otherwise his near to the edge of controlled riding is going to bite him and possibly someone else ! He is a winner at all costs type of rider and that is dangerous. He must learn that, not only does he have two opponents on the track with him but also a team mate. He was very close to taking out Josh last night on top of the Workington incident which, as a scoring manoeuvre was unnecessary. He broke his arm last year needlessly trying for a last race win to secure a maximum and we lost him for the remainder of the season. He could have stayed where he was in that race and still got a paid max and his arm intact, but no, win at all costs was his drive. He is doing well as a guest with other clubs and that is good, because he is earning and getting in track time which, at his tender age is invaluable. IMO, he needs to back off of the mike a bit and pinch himself and take heed that, he is trying to run before he can walk properly. Good excitement value and good entertainment but not professional or safe. Wake up Brady. :t:

He already has, Workington on Saturday, luckily no injuries.

The track wasn't rubbish at all - it's just how well it is utilised. There was passing inside and outside, although not a great deal compared to the norm.

It was only a matter of days ago last Friday that Brady scored a 15 point maximum at home to Redcar, so a bit of a daft thing to say he's forgotten the quickest way around Somerset.

Don't think the track was rubbish either.

Certainly there were a few ding dongs battles quite late in the meeting.

And Cookie had at least 2 very quick times, though you have to be quick to see them on the Sky screen!!

56.15 in heat 4 or 5 and a 56.2something in an earlier one.

Given the TR is apparently 56.08 set in 2007 and this season's fastest was 56.44 by young Kurtz only last Friday then the track can't have been that bad.

Certainly heat 13 was one to remember for a long time.

Absolutely - I don't think there was actually any passing in Heat 13 other than Kurtz/Grajczonek on eachother but a superb race, which is more testiment to Craig Cook's superb riding in that race as oppose to the track being "rubbish".

Charles Wright deserves a mention too, struggled out of the gate in his first couple but always willing to mix it and have a good ol' go. Mr Worrall could learn a thing or two from Charles.

Heat 13 was great a race as you're ever likely to see. Had to been able to pause it after 2 laps I don't think there is a single person who could have said with any confidence what the result was going to be, it could have still very easily ended as a home 5-1

Can't remember the last time I saw the track with so little grip. Brady Kurtz usually flies around the boards on bend 2 and down the back straight. Last night he didn't.

Saying that, Edinburgh's top 4 were very good, too good for the home side.

I still reckon Somerset will demolish us in the KOC semi final.

I used this argument on another thread. You don't necessarily need passing to have a good race.

Kurtz had an off- night and seriously needs to learn about team riding and not being so reckless.

Grajczonek, Wright and Starke to be honest rode well and mixed it with the monarchs.

Greenwood was poor in heat two but after that had two hard heats, so a bit unfair to count those two heats.

Worrall and Lanham were diabolical and have been for a while (apart from the odd meeting). Think they need replacing if we are to stand a chance in the play-offs.

Monarchs, nothing really needs saying it was a solid performance and deserved the victory.

Thing is, it's not so easy to fly round the boards when there's someone else flying round them that is as fast as you.

I'm sure Rebels would have made a lot more passes against most other PL teams.

Thats how I saw it,When the Monarchs were leading they were using all the grip round the outside.Grazonik when he gated flew round the outside.

Don't agree track was rubbish, a nice smooth surface, no dust, perhaps a bit more dirt on outside needed, but track looked good to me.
