topsoil
On a 4.45 average Matty Wethers would be a steal for Shielfield, as his performance for Workington a couple of weeks ago showed.

screm
I can confirm this as i actually sent the email. If anyone has the time to organise and look into the idea i would be happy to pass on my idea. Unfortunatly i am not in this position. Just to point out if bandits do not run this could also have an adverse effect on berwick rangers. I am fairly sure the stadium rental paid to berwick rangers supporters trust would in some way find its way to the football team in some form. Maybe anyone interested in setting up bandits supporters trust could speak to the football equivlent for advice etc[/quote Small point the leaseholders are BRFC supporters club not the trust. But yes it would leave a big hole in the bank balance think it was about £18000 last year If your figure is any where near right, that's a lot of money to find for what is a six month season. KIRKYLANE
The most important factor is that Berwick continue in 2016. once that is sorted then it is time to sort out the team. Good luck re guaranteeing Speedway at Berwick in 2016!!,

sparkafag
The counter argument of “loan fees” seems like a complete fallacy at this moment in time given the current predicament of British Speedway.
To The Point
The counter argument of “loan fees” seems like a complete fallacy at this moment in time given the current predicament of British Speedway. I don't think the asset base is legal anyway. Each rider is self employed, in the UK none are on retaining fees, so as soon as the end of October comes that ends any contract agreed by any club. It should leave the riders to ply their trade with any club they wish, with no loan fees paid to any club, an open and free labour market. The idea of an asset base - and therefore loan fees etc - is, I believe, just a way of generating income for clubs.

screm
IMO the asset system passed his sell by date years ago, no rider commits to a team year after year now, and there is little or no transfer system that enables a club to cash in on talent. Scrap the whole thing and let the riders be truly self employed.
Black Angus
OK, moving on from the 4,300-odd posts on the 2015 thread, let's discuss the all-important future. The club's very existence seems to be on a knife-edge, yet I heard people at the last meeting discussing team line-ups for 2016 as if nothing was happening. Is there a future for speedway at Shielfield? Are the supporters prepared to back a promotion, old or new, in 2016? Discuss. Seriously. Is there a future for speedway at Shielfield? Are the supporters prepared to back a promotion, old or new, in 2016? Discuss. Seriously. Its a difficult one to discuss, mainly because I think the sport is in turmoil ,don't think the real problem is about who is promoting the sport at Berwick, but what can change in the sport to attract fans back.Unfortunately don't think Promoters know what the real problems are and are at odds with the fans regarding change.Things discussed on this Forum won't change anything IMO .Anything negative just gets shot down in flames and blamed for people not turning up at meetings which is a lot of nonsense IMO .Most clubs are now relying on Owners and Sponsers (and supporters) dipping into their pocket to keep them afloat. We are just going round in circles regarding solutions,as most ideas have already been exhausted on this forum. Is there a future for the sport at Berwick .Only the Promotion know the answer to that Question .IMO Edited September 21, 2015 by Fromafar
