Berwick 2016

Recommended Posts

Every Berwick supporter will now need to buy a couple of extra lottery tickets I am hopeful some person or people will take over and hope the current board will not be hard to deal with otherwise it will be RIP Berwick Speedway

Don`t think this will come as a surprise to anyone, especially after recent events where our consortium resigned. There are rumours of interested parties, lets hope they come true and Berwick Speedway will come to the tapes next season on what would their 50th in the sport.

I would like to pass on my thanks to John and Ryan Anderson, George Hepburn for keeping the speedway going, but its been obvious that they weren't enjoying it anymore and if your not enjoying it you`d might as well get out, I am sure they will enjoy their Saturday nights more as supporters of Berwick Speedway.

just read the statement on the unofficial comets website . its a difficult time for all speedway promoters and i wish the berwick promotion happier times in the future . i hope a buyer can be found in time for 2017 and a successful team can be assembled . no one team is safe from the financial chop and i hope it turns out ok . Been waiting for this for a while now, I know of plenty people personally who would take it on but not for anything like they was asking for it, hope they lower the price to make sure it's sold and not just stick in for the money and see the club die, fingers crossed.

I reckon the prices proposed could keep a lot of people away... He/ they need to realise they ain't gonna get what they want because the assets (or those actually riding) aren't worth that much at the present time... You can throw in the bond of the club, the ambulance.. Any tractors? And would they be asking the new buyer to buy the fence from them?... taking into account all that was donated from fans as such...

Personally, I'm tired of all the bickering and sniping in speedway.

That alone over the past few years has gradually turned me off the sport.

It'll take something exciting to spark my passion for the sport again. Hopefully that will happen.

speedway is a thankless sport very few owners get the respect they deserve

and also it goes both ways the fans dont get respect from riders and promotors

the cost of speedway to the average person is too high to get new fans in

the cost of running a meeting is too high

without good sponsorship only the likes of poole can get enough paying people in to make it pay

very brave and deicated person to take on a speedway club (or fool)

Everything that has been said in the statement is true, the promotion saved Berwick back when they took over and during their time in charge there has been some great achievements. The FIM meetings gave the club a huge buzz, it was a shame that two of them were rain-affected, but the under 21 meeting was one of the best I have ever seen at Berwick. sky have visited four times and again, this gave the club great exposure. Hosting the Ben Fund meeting was also a big honour.

But over the course of time you could tell the enthusiasm of the promotion was waning. Until new faces came on board this season there was very little promotion of the meetings. It's onlt human nature that through time interest and commitment levels will fall. It must be very difficult to maintain a level of enthusiasm when the club faced as many problems as it has with rain in 2014 and injuries the past two seasons.

So now a new buyer has to be found. If you believe the stories doing the rounds there are interested parties, my only hope is that the current promotion think of the future of the club and are fair with negotiations. Outside of the bond, the club has very few "assets". I can't think the riders the club owns would fetch much in the current climate where very few clubs are actually paying transfer fees. It would be interesting to know what other "assets" the club actually does own. Does the fence belong to the club? Do the tractors belong to the club or are they supplied by local businessmen?

I am grateful to the promotion for what they have done, but the time is right to move on. They have played their part, had good times and bad, but the most important thing is the future of the club. What everybody has to understand is the club is bigger than any one custodian.

I guess when selling a going concern, the sellers will have a price at which it is not worth selling as such, then it becomes more effective to dispose of assets.

That often can avoided where there is a decent amount of goodwill in place, though.
