Berwick 2016

Recommended Posts

Used to get big crowds at Shielfield when we rode on a Sunday afternoon. Can remember an inter-league 4 team meeting absolutely massive crowd.

What's that, a fifty-mile radius around Shielfield?

On that basis, population fifty-mile radius of Armadale is 2.5 million. Brough Park is 2 million. Ashfield 3.5 million.

Berwick promotion do pretty well from what they've got to draw upon by comparison

Just pointing out to the poster that population is there , Berwick are neve going to match big city team I realise that , but

I'm sure there's always room for a few more on Saturday night , short of physically dragging folks in off the street I'm not sure how you do that , as a previous member mention it's not just at Berwick where low crowds are a problem , the whole sport is in decline and has been for a few years now

Your points are noted, I'm sure. But Berwick impress many by their refusal to lay out the big money that would be required to attract a Harris, a Watt (really?) or a big-name continental tstar o Shielfield Park. They were recently sitting second in the league with a side constructed within a sensible budget. Had Sebastian Alden not been injured they'd possibly still be there. Berwick should be a guideline to others.

Yes, the sport needs a real shake-up, no mistake about that. But that shake-up should be designed to keep clubs of more-modest means in business, not make more and more has-beens available to a Premier League which in the main can't afford them. Cut the PL costs, make it a viable, entertaining league and let EL clubs spend money they haven't got.

Mind I never said Berwick would sign watt or Harris lol, just merely a point that the stupid rules are ruining our sport, even if for example Glasgow were to sign Harris as say a squad member then surely that is for the good of the sport by putting bums on seats?

Maybe we should have made sure Kevs average didnt rise above Sebs as some other teams might have done ;););)

Good to see we are in the process of signing another rider. I take it Kev's average (and or Theo's) is above Seb's average for next month so we are unable to get a guest in August.

Lets face it other Team members are not going to complain about using R/R for your No1 when all the Heat Leaders get an extra ride and a chance for more income.Money is what it is all about.

Having seen him at Ipswich and Peterborough recently I can assure you he's doing everything possibly to lower that average

There would be some who would argue that if a rider is allowed to ride for two teams, that is hammering a few nails in the speedway coffin too!!

Big Big snag with that point, it increases the need to rebuild your engine more often, so if you normally rebuild every 8 meetings, would need to be done every 6 meetings. This wipes out any financial advantage to the rider.

yea , lets lose the bottom 5 teams in the pl and the bottom 2 teams in the el and have one big happy family .

Not quite what I had in mind. Not enough quality riders for 20+ teams in the top two tiers, so doubling up/down is a necessity.

Dont think riders would look at that way, 1 more race per meeting and a couple of 3 pt wins might offset the costs.Riders know the score,if that was the case they would be refusing Ht 15's. Edited by Fromafar

Berwick are certainly to be commended in going down a very difficult route to secure Dawid Stachyra.

They have had some decent Poles in their side before, notably Burza, so hopefully they are rewarded this time also, rather than relying on Guests or R/R long term.
