Berwick 2016

Recommended Posts

If any team runs with a big hitting No1, they had better have the best No 6 available, but to be fair it equally applies to a team in depth.

Now that all clubs have to have a 3pt rider at number seven, a strong number six is as important as an out and out number one for next season, to their credit Berwick might have already covered that if Mellgren starts in the number six position.

Dont really see what all the fuss about reserves is,all teams will start with a 3pt man at reserve,it just depends on how you want to build the other 6 riders.IF we have Carr at reserve as 3 pt man that will be decent as he has a lot of expieriance at Berwick.Think a few other Teams might be looking at him for that position though.

Agree, especially giving his experience in the PL. Obviously Berwick must be looking at him, but as you say there will be others.

While Cook was a bit of an anomaly in that he simply won a lot of races, Edinburgh have shown that strong reserves don’t matter.

I would also question the requirement of a genuinely strong reserve now to partner the Number 7/3.00 Brit, quite a lot of reserves are going to be poor and thus easy pickings. An example case being someone like Nathan Greaves (not to pick on him) could meet a rider like Jan Gravesen a minimum of twice a meeting (Heat 2/8/12 or 14). If you manage smartly you could bully the other sides weak link with a moderate rider. I would assume there will be a bit of that this season given only 2 heats are protected. A decent Brit on 3.00 and one of the runoff the mill journeymen reserves of the last few years could score a lot of points this season.

Although not a fan of track record seekers, Alden, if his head is back together is a good punt. Forgot to say , Melgren is a very good signing especially if he is at reserve, if we have a weaker rider than that at No6. we could be far too weak at the bottom end, more than ever one strong reserve is vital.

Is Mellgren another "hump and dump"

so to speak? as with Pijper

A likely alternative could be

Jorgensen 7.80

Doolan 6.95

Vissing 7.54

Alden 7.37

Mellgren 5.57

Hall 4.04

Carr 3.00

What about

Jorgensen 7.80

Pjiper 6,53

Alden 7.37

Melgren 5.57

Doolan 6.95

?

Carr 3.00

This leaves 5.28 what about a new rider asset like Michal Skurla 5.00 ave

This would leave Melgren & Skurla rolling around each other at No6
