Elite League 2016 - What Is Required?

Recommended Posts

In another topic somebody has posted:

"Hopefully the Elite league will do the decent thing and put itself out of its misery this winter and we can have something in its place which is better"

Obviously easy to wish for something better without stating what "better" would be. so given that opinions on any changes for 2016 should be thought about sooner rather than later, we forum folk should lead the way (cant believe the promoters are too far advanced in their own planning for 2016) in setting out ideas which could provide "something in its place which is better"

To start the ball rolling my suggestions are:

1. Race days limited to Thursday and/or Friday, No Friday meetings when there is a GP - removes the Poland and GP effect where riders need to be at those meetings on Saturday less clash with PL double ups

2. FTR to be limited to one rider (no 7) other reserve is 6th lowest scorer and treated as per main body of team - 2 FTR's have proven to be a) too influential on the outcomes of meetings or impossible to replace when injured with similar ability riders

3. Teams to be limited to 1 current GP rider as the norm. or if a team wishes to have 2 GP riders then team points limit reduced by 2 points. Creates a more balanced team v team structure.

Why Friday? Clashes with GP practice plus PL racing. Thursday clashes with 3 PL tracks too. There's no PL racing on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The fast track either has to make every team have at least 1 current/former fast tracker in the 1-5, I'd also include Barker, Worrall and Lambert in the list too. I'd also take the race for at back to the old format. No more protectected heats.

Why does it matter if a team has 1 GP rider or 4? The point limit is used to even out teams, you don't need any more artificial team team fiddling. It serves no purpose and it just a rule for the sake of having a rule.

Before deciding on new rules you have to work out what is broke so you can fix it. The biggest issues are are missing riders and teams having no meerings for months and then 4 in a week. Rules are not needed to plan fixtures better.

Limit the number of overseas riders 3 elite league, 2 Premier, None Conference, Double up only British riders, In all leagues, And you can only ride in 2 leagues, Bring in the Squad system for all Leagues, And 1/3 of the money from Sky goes towards a Programme for Physical training, Diet plans, Gating techniques, Machine Maintenance and PR work including how to behave on Social media For British riders Only. Do away with Jokers and mickey mouse ideas, (Seeing riders in most seasons losing a point on purpose is a joke) Brake the tapes you are out ( some teams have been known to do it on purpose to bring in a on form res)

Employ a full time Person who has experience at the top level to work with Young British riders Like Zach for instance to bring them on.

The biggest problem that needs to be addressed is the guest system. Fans don't pay good money nowadays to watch a team of guests..
If we are going to limit teams to one FTR how are we going to bring on theses kids. And im talking BRITISH kids. Ive said in the past, the top 6-7 whatever it is FTR should go into the team proper on an assessed 4 pt ave. THEN you can have one FTR and then a n other at reserve.

you bring on the youngsters by having a ftd in the pl. instead of your lunna, gravesen, barrett etc.

You have no chance, sadly :( done properly it could save the PL money and bring on more British riders to save money in the future. But they all seem to prefer bringing on Swedes, Danes and Aussies!

Doesn't really make too much sense to be honest. There are plenty of non-GP riders equal to (and arguably better) than some of those currently in the GP series.

There's been plenty of non-GP riders beat Matej Zagar around Kirky Lane this season and only last week we had a Premier League rider guesting at Kirky Lane beating Chris Holder. Having two GP riders on 8 point averages doesn't make your team any stronger than having two non-GP riders on 8 point averages - so why penalise the team?

The likes of the top reserve riders this season would easily beat a new 2 reserve riders so can't see the point of them being in the main team in that case as what would they learn.

Garrity, Newman & Worrall etc are heat leaders in the Premier League so they should be in main body of team.

The problem is once you go past the current 2nd reserve this season there really is a massive drop on quality.

EL needs to run on 2/3 nights that the PL don't or vice versa that would cut out all the crap with doubling up riders missing due to clashes straight away, Monday's and Wednesday's would be the obvious choice allowing for foreign leagues, GP,s and FIM meetings etc.

Allowing anyone to D/U would help as well, if teams want to use a big allowance on one rider why not as long as the conversion factor was accurate, perhaps a mean average across the leagues with the riders that do it could be calculated and used the following year.

My suggestion re Thursday & Friday did exclude Friday meetings when there is a GP. I believe we need consecutive days to reduce back and forth travel costs of riders based outside of UK and a day where there is no school the next day. Hence only Thursday & Friday meet this criteria. Incidentally this also resolves your last point about regular meetings being required which I totally agree n.

Limiting GP riders keeps cost under control and I believe be a better way of ensuring development of riders and a better way of balancing team strength inside whatever points limit is created. BTW wait until next season when Poole announce 3 GP riders in their team (Holder, Majic & Ward) to see if people think it doesn't matter.

Crazy Prediction. 2 leagues only next year.

PL:

Glasgow, Edinburgh, Rye House, Sheffield, Plymouth, Ipswich, Newcastle, P'Boro, Somerset, Leicester, Poole, K.Lynn, Belle Vue, Swindon, Wolves, Coventry? = 16 (15 without Cov)

NL:

Berwick, Redcar, Scunny, Workington, Lakeside, Birmingham, Cradley, Eastbourne, Rye House, Kent, Mildenhall, Stoke, Buxton, K.Lynn? , Coventry? = 15 (13 Without K.Lynn & Cov)

The current rules prevent that anyway, with the 7 point rule.

And Poole Speedway have an untarnished history of abiding by 'current rules' to the letter, don't they.

So no point having the 1 GP rider rule either then?

Not crazy at all ,quite sensible. Swindon may / may not be involved depending on their stadium situation. Coventry should be o.k for the top division next year, year after anyone's guess.

To be quite honest, I couldn't care less any more if the day comes when a team can have 7 G.P. riders if it wants............and Poole are the only team left in this utter circus known as Elite League Speedway.

Mr Fraud and lapdog would probably consider that a victory as well.

Clearly you have a real problem with Poole Speedway. This was a decent talkative thread, untill you added your ten pence worth. If you have nothing constructive to add to the thread, please don't say it. Thank you..
