Eastbourne V Buxton Sunday 09/08/2015 3.30 Pm

Bradley Wilson-Dean has been declared fit to lead the Eastbourne IT First Eagles into two crucial league matches this weekend.

The club’s New Zealander will take his place at No 1 for the National League match at King’s Lynn Young Stars on Friday and at home on Sunday against Buxton.

Wilson-Dean injured his left hand in a crash last week in the KO Cup semi-final against Kent.

Initially it was feared there was a break but a trip to hospital diagnosed bad bruising.

Team manager Glenn Martin said: “Brad showed how tough he is after racing to a 12-point maximum after his heat one crash against Kent.

“The big open spaces at King’s Lynn will be reminiscent of the tracks in New Zealand so I am sure he will relish the trip to Norfolk.”

Martin is targeting maximum points from the weekend to keep up the Eagles’ challenge at the top of the table.

“We’re in the finals of both the KO Cup and the National Trophy, so now is the time to press on in the league. We’re third at the moment and need to start putting pressure on both Cradley and Birmingham.”

Sunday’s home match at Arlington against Buxton begins at 3.30pm with Martin confident of victory.

“Even with our injury worries, we should have far too much firepower for Buxton but we cannot afford for any of our top boys to misfire,” he said.

“Ben Hopwood will obviously relish riding against the team he started the season with and Mattie Bates at reserve could be a trump card for us.

“Kelsey Dugard had the crowd cheering last week with his round the boards racing so we should be in for an exciting afternoon.”

With Richie Andrews and Georgie Wood both out, the IT First Eagles will use the rider replacement rule to cover one spot and have Mildenhall’s Connor Coles as a guest at King’s Lynn.

On Sunday, No 8 Niall Strudwick makes his full debut for the Eagles at No 2.

A plan to use Gary Cottham was ruled out by the BSPA as he is no longer in the Eagles declared 1 to 7.

Putting Strudwick at 2 is sheer lunacy .

as we all know the dugards are not lunatics, well as long as you keep them away from a tractor . my guess is it's either a baldrick type cunning plan or it's putting strudwick up for some retribution after his interview in the star.

Brad should relish the Lynn track as he does love to wind it on some.

However it is a myth that NZ riders race on big tracks.

That may have rung true some 20 years or so ago but with the laying of more and more Clay based surfaces for the big horsepower cars Kiwi riders now only have about 4 tracks operating of which Rosebank in Auckland, Hawkes Bay and Moore Park in Christchurch are smaller UK style tracks.

It is this reason in my opinion why Brad has taken to Eastbourne and UK racing so quickly combined with the re emergence of the NZ league competition where these tracks are used regularly.

Good luck to Nial or Neil however he spells it. Enjoy your time to shine. Hope Mark is feeling well enough to take part. Best of luck to all Eastie Eagles today.

And from my working which isn't very good Ellis perks is the closet average to Marc who isn't riding today. Edited by Alex2000

My feeling was based on the information that Marc Owen was missing, Thank goodness that was duff information or we would have been in trouble. It still looked very uncertain after 5 heats, how can Bates, Dugard (twice), and even Ben Hopwood come off when comfortably in front. They will have to get their act together before the cup finals and no more appeasing Strudwick there must be a 6+ guest from herein as it sounded like Georgie is out for the season and a while yet before Richard Andrews can return.

Martin Dugard has done a great job this season but what he does now will be the difference between some success and the season falling apart.

Well hats off to Mark then, without his performance we would have lost!

Falls cost us dearly yesterday and I guess most of that was down to the track. I hope they bring back Saturday night racing next year. It seemed like they could do nothing about the dust yesterday. I worried at one time if we were going to have the embarrassment of the meeting being cancelled due to the dust.

Yes it was dusty but I didn't think it was as bad as it has been... I could see the whole track all the time. Strudwick produced 1 point but he did earn that it wasn't a gift!
