Tigerblade
That's okay if you live close, but it means a very late night / early morning for fans travelling any distance. If you want a night meeting better making it a Saturday. It would have to be at a different venue as well, if you want a Saturday night meeting. Ulrich and Cookie were the two best from the qualifiers, so it was right that one of them won IMO. I know a Grand Final makes it more exciting, but personally I loathe that way of deciding a meeting. I thought Brady Kurtz was very lucky to get up from that crash, as he seemed to somersault over the handlebars and then his bike landed behind him. Sympathies also to Edward Kennett, with his bike failing at the start of the semi final, bit of an expensive weekend for him as I was told (and some people on here of course would have seen it) later on that he'd also blown an engine at Berwick the night before! archie21
Congratulations to Ulrich on his win. Did anyone have trouble with the attitude of the "you will not bring any food or drink into the stadium " bag searches ? Why I ask is the lady behind me in the queue was told Very abruptly to put her food and drink back in her car or she would not get in even though she said she was on a special diabetic diet and the food she had to have was not on sale in the stadium. On complaining to the " head " of the security he said that it would have been ok for her to take in her food. Talk about left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing !! We all know that the speedway rents the stadium and that this the owners rules but do they have to be so dogmatic with it or are they just hard up and see this as a way to make money at the expense of others. scoobydoo
Cook could have put aside his disappointment and showed respect to the other riders in the photo, it costs nothing to smile even if you dont really feel like it, im sure he would of expected the same had he won it

Can't Sheffield do Saturday nights? If not it would be a pity. Been a couple of times for the PLRC and I think it's the ideal venue.
Tigerish
I believe Owlerton is owned by the casino (Dave Allen) next door (A & S Leisure, I think they are called) and they prefer to put Greyhounds on in preference to Speedway. Greyhounds run on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Edward had no blown engine at Berwick. His Heat 1 withdrawal was not mechanical. Same bike in all his races.
Bostonian
Everything was great yesterday - stadium was its usual high standard, good entertainment, good sound system and a great crowd.. Just a shame the racing was a bit dull. Agree that the atmosphere was also very quiet for some reason, seemed like loads of people there but not really cheering for anyone! I personally thought Ulrich deserved to win, was the most consistant all day and certainly looked like it meant a lot to him. Cookie didnt look himself, seemed like he put himself under a lot of pressure and out thought himself for the final. Thought Well's would be a spooler and he certainly was, rode really well and well cheered on by about the only noisy fan base from Worky. Track seemed good, but I thought all the constant tractor racing just left it at a level playing field and once riders were out in front, that seemed to be that. Maybe leaving a better dirt line to develop would of helped the racing. Looking forward to the play offs now.
comet49
How about Belle Vue next year, would many Belle Vues fans go?
Tsunami
Edward had no blown engine at Berwick. His Heat 1 withdrawal was not mechanical. Same bike in all his races. And in the Semi, he dropped a chain before the start. Who didn't put the clip on the chain link ?

Paulco
Great day out as usual , wasn't a great meeting but individuals very rarely are . Surprising , but deserved winner . Two Glasgow riders were a bit disappointing , but they usually are in this event , no winner since the great Robert Nagy in 92 . Thought the crowd was a bit down on recent years , the pub certainly was beforehand .
Charlieboy
Not the best meeting to be fair but a fair result.Would have been interesting had Kennett made the final and gated ? I think the best meetings are at night but with all the travelling fans it would have a big effect on the crowd.Well done to all the lads who made the final especially Ulrich. If we get Peterboro in the play offs I hope he has an off night. spin king
As said the crowd levels were definitely down, as was the atmosphere, but it was noticeable that the Berwick contingent of fan base were missing and they usual very vocal. As my mate Paulco said the pub before the meeting was very quiet, might have something to do with me not putting the word out like have done in previous seasons. The racing was not that great, but for me the day is usually about meeting up with friends on the day and having some fun. Ostergaard was one of the better riders on the day and got the final just right where as Cookie who looked as though he was ramping it up to win but completely messed up the final. Best performance for me was the lad Andersen from Redcar who did ever so well and made the Semi Final ahead of some far more fancied riders. Biggest smile of the day Paulco after seeing Cookie failing to win the Final, a smile as wide as the river Clyde. Jason Garrity never really got going, but he will no doubt be back. And I swear I saw Ricky Wells smile. But it finally has to be Congratulations to Ulrich Ostergaard.

screm
Is it true Gary Stead was refused entry to the pits yesterday?? Yes its true, and a bit shabby IMO. funny that. He told me he'd blown an engne at Berwick and that he had just the one bike in the pits on Sunday. Riders eh? Best check his interview on the DVD to see what he said! http://ryehouserockets.co/news.php?extend.1122 This confirms that Kennett only had one bike to use at Sheffield having had machinery problems at Berwick the night before.
