Scunthorpe V Newcastle Friday 7th August 2015 Premier League

Professional British speedway might be extinct. I suspect the lower divisions will have to go part time to survive. One bike hanging off the back of Citroen Safari might be the image seen up and down the highways of the UK.

I seem to remember the big Citroen would take a couple of bikes and you could shut the boot, 1970s diamond Graeme Stapleton may have had a Safari?? I agree everything should be done to cut costs

There is, also, the fact that those that get there early don't pay the car park fee. More lost revenue for the club with the 3 or 4 cars that also park outside the gate to the circle. Support the club, ha. Chip in please guys as there are, also, too many freeloaders that come with riders & get in for free.

so folk que up from before 6pm to watch an event that starts at 730pm...why?? Are they going straight from work or something??

Anyone who has to endure Highways England's chaos at M1 J28-35 would know very well why people are turning up early for a speedway match that commences 7.30.

That notorious stretch of motorway has overrun it's schedule by several months and the Transport Minister himself has expressed outrage at those works. If you do not get there before 5pm you will be stuck there for over an hour.

The M18/A1 junction can cause delays too, all of which probably causes problems for Mr.Godfrey.

I would also respectfully suggest that anyone who attends live speedway would not be surprised to discover supporters lounging around in cars and small groups in the car park at least an hour before the gates open. I have seen it at Scunny, Sheffield, Wolverhampton and Coventry. The best place to do it is Mildenhall because you can go and watch a couple of hours MX for free there before the meeting if you are lucky enough to find the MX lads there.

Fairy nuff.... Didnt think of the travelers :)

Arson, anyone coming from the M1 direction has a nightmare journey on a Friday. I almost completely avoid the M1 to get from Oxford at 3pm to Scunthorpe at approx. 7.15pm (Friday was my best journey for ages, got there before 6.45pm).

Basically my route (for anyone who cares) is: back roads of Oxfordshire going through Islip and outskirts of Bicester (therefore avoiding the A40 roadworks, A34 and M40), A43, A5 (runs parallel to M1, which has roadworks from 15A to 19), onto the M1 briefly from junctions 20 to 21A, A46 (by the time I reach the outskirts of Lincoln their rush hour is almost over), A15, and then past the steel works and Eddie Wrights.

Trips to Scunny on Friday evenings are a case of my pitting my wits against the Highways Agency ;) So far (touch wood) I've won every time in 2015.

Back home is a bit different, to avoid the night closures. Off the M1 at junction 21, then M69, A46 and M40. Unless A46 is shut around Coventry, in which case I head towards Brandon or Southam (depending on where the road is shut) and then come home via Banbury along the A4260. Normally back home within 3 hours.

All the best

Rob

Unfortunately the work to upgrade to a "Smart Motorway" is not due to finish until the Autumn. The work to replace the central barrier has finished even though they seem to be demolishing it and putting in another one, which appears to be exactly the same. But at least they are not going to make the maximum speed 60mph, which was suggested a while back

Any info on Andreas Lyager?

Have a read of this

http://www.speedweek.com/speedway-racing/news/75721/Norden-Andreas-Lyager-gewinnt-Stoertebeker-Superpokal.html

Can somebody have a word with the lad because I think he might have a problem with his sat nav next week. He thinks he's signed for Southscope !

Andreas in action below; seems keen enough; if he's been pestering Rob for a chance; so lets give the kid his chance !

By the way; have not had chance to comment on Friday; but yet another cracking nights action at the EWR v Newcastle.

Our new Czech mate Zedee Holub "Didn't he do well". Immediately sussed out the track. A controlled; rider; who can think his way through the race; forming an instant understanding with Alex Davies. Knew when to take the race himself and when to back Alex; great signing and clearly connected with the crowd; as Rob invited the pit staff to "send the boy round" to take the applause and salute the crowd. A couple of pointless rides in the end but 8+2 debut was impressive in a dominant Scorpions performance. He looked well set up from the off.

We were thinking on a theme tune for the Zed Man and came up with Zee Zee Top "Sharp Dressed Man" over to you Barry !

Theo Pjiper was superb all night and great to see him reaping the rewards for the skill and craft he shows on the bike. All the riders contributed down the order; and covered for Ryan's absence. Special praise for the Bates Boy; wow did he hammer round on the outside for his two heat wins. I have to confess I was almost watching through my fingers; for fear of him coming a cropper !. Fearless; his sweep round the outside in the re-run of Heat7 was awesome to watch as he went on to win He's a genuine prospect and has come on a lot since his early days as a Scorpion.

Notice Redcar went down heavily at Glasgow this afternoon and sit just three points ahead of the Scorpions in the race to avoid the bottom spot in the PL. Sets up next Friday nicely and on the evidence despite all the bad luck and injuries the moves made to bolster the team can pull us clear. Add in the debut of Andrea Lyager who's 7pt average may look a bit steep (but anything he gets is a bonus) and the I think we can look forward to next weeks meeting.

:blink: :blink: :blink::shock::oops::blink:

The 'F' factor was being used to attract fans back in the Bruce Penhall {pennell} day WK. If the speedway 'groupie' factor can be exploited, why not. Some of the 'whoops' heard from female voices at Brough are testimony to it too.
