dantodan
I am starting this thread,. Upset to learn that Lewis Kerr is in a coma in hospital following his accident at Peterborough on Sunday in the four team tournament. Good luck Lewi we all wish you well. Life goes on however upset you are, and 5 days later Lewi's team are programmed to ride at Scunthorpe. I would bet Lewi would want his team to go to Scunthorpe and win so maybe that is what we should decide to do..Go to Scunthorpe? It is hard to think about anything but Lewis Kerr and his massive injury. please God let him survive this.
HadrianDog
Dantodan, when I first read your post earlier, I thought, no, this is just too early. But now I think you are right about Lewey wanting the team to ride and hopefully win. This sport will always, regrettably, have injuries, thankfully not always as severe as that witnessed on Sunday. But the sport continues and Kings Lynn rode tonight, so of course Newcastle will ride on Friday at Scunthorpe. The worst injury I have seen first hand was that suffered by Kyle Newman and terrible though it was, he now still rides very well at Plymouth and indeed last night at Belle Vue against our current no 1 Stevie. What we all want is for Lewis to be able to recover and do the same. The sport continues so this forum must continue to debate the 'why and why fors' as always. thebaron
Reading the last two; and as good a rationale as you can make out. Get well and get back Lewis.

HadrianDog
Still hopeful for a point at least. Tero is ex. Scunny , so maybe still knows the fastest way round their track and can give the rest of the guys some tips. With luck we get the gating version of Richard Hall and a decent showing from the lads. Ride with your hearts lads. Edited August 5, 2015 by HadrianDog
lucifer sam
HOLUB SET FOR EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY DEBUT FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, will give a home debut to new signing Zdenek Holub at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening (7.30pm), as they look to record their third victory of the season over the Newcastle Diamonds. The highly-rated 19-year-old Czech International will make his first appearance for the club a day earlier, at local rivals Sheffield on Thursday. Holub comes in at No 1, in place of the injured Josh Auty. Scunthorpe are due to unveil another new signing next Monday, who will replace Ben Wilson, another Scorpion ruled out for the rest of the season through injury. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “It was far from easy to find a replacement for the rest of the season for Josh, but I think we’ve landed on our feet with Zdenek. “King’s Lynn promoter Buster Chapman can’t speak highly enough of him, and I think he’s going to be a terrific signing. “We need to catch the teams in front of us, and gaining a victory over Newcastle to take the three points on offer will help us close up the gap. “We want to climb off the bottom of the Premier League table before the end of the season. “Unfortunately, we’d had an enforced three week break in home fixtures. The previous home meetings against Peterborough and Ipswich were full of great racing and incident in front of improved crowds, and I hope everyone who came on those nights will come back. “The Diamonds will prove a stiff test, especially with an old friend of ours, Tero Aarnio, as a recent addition to their line-up, and I’m sure another cracking night of action is ahead at the Eddie Wright Raceway.” Friday marks Newcastle’s first fixture since Lewis Kerr’s dreadful accident in the Premier League Fours at Peterborough on Sunday. Some terrific news is that Kerr is now out of the induced coma and is breathing for himself, but doctors has stressed it is still a ‘very serious situation’ and that he remains in critical care. Godfrey adds: “I was at Peterborough and it was extremely upsetting, to say the least. Absolutely no blame could be attached to anyone or anything because it was a pure racing accident. “When something like this happens, it puts a lot of other things into perspective. It’s always terrific how the whole speedway world pulls together at moments like these. Everyone at Scunthorpe Speedway passes on their best wishes to Lewis and his family, and he’s hoping for some more positive news very soon.” A reminder of the special promotion, which will last to the end of the 2015 season, which sees all accompanied children under the age of 16 admitted for free to home Scorpions' meetings. “We’re always looking to attract more younger fans”, says Godfrey. “And this offer is part of that. It’s the school holidays, and if you’re a parent, I can’t think of a better way than keeping your kids entertained on a Friday evening than bringing them along here!” There are 24 heats of action in total on Friday, with a nine-race second half including a six-heat Midland Development League match between Scunthorpe & Coventry. Admission prices for Friday: Adult: £15.00 Student/OAP: £13.00 Child (16 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 15) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £35 (2 adults, 2 Children 16-17) Match Programme: £1.00 Expected teams for Friday: FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance: 1. Zdenek Holub, 2. Alex Davies, 3. Theo Pijper, 4. Carl Wilkinson, 5. Ryan Douglas, 6. Josh Bates (guest for Ben Wilson), 7. Nike Lunna. Newcastle Diamonds: 1. Steve Worrall, 2. Rider replacement for Lewis Kerr, 3. Richard Hall (guest for Christian Henry), 4. Anton Rosen, 5. Ludvig Lindgren, 6. Simon Nielsen, 7. Tero Aarnio. Midland Development League teams: Scunthorpe Stags: 1. Jack Parkinson-Blackburn, 2. Stephen Whitehouse, 3. Jamie Halder, 4. Luke Whitehead. Coventry Storm: 1. TBC, 2. Mitchell Beckett, 3. Robert Parker, 4. Kyle Roberts.
dantodan
All concerned at Scunthorpe on Friday will have heavy hearts. Lewi is still very unwell but hopefully he will be alert enough to ask if the diamonds won at Scunthorpe. The officila Newcastle website list the Diamonds team for this match as follows:- Newcastle Diamonds 1. Steve Worrall 8.082. Lewis Kerr 7.16 r/r3. Richard Hall (guest 3.96) for Christian Henry 4.97 (back injury)4. Anton Rosen 6.005. Ludvig Lindgren © 7.026. Simon Nielsen 4.047. Tero Aarnio 4.10 Richard Hall is a rider I often admire. He is fast and spectacular when he misses the gate but for this match Richard make the gate mate eh! and net a haul of points for us. Tero could be a match winner. I don't know how he goes now but was very capable a season or two ago R/R for the unfortunate Lewis Kerr, far sooner have the tatooed one in the team, we will miss the Kerminator. I have been criticised for calling the Diamonds a team of second strings plus two reserves. Well Steve Worrall is now in heat leader heaven averaging over 8points per match! I may have called them a team of second strings but I watch every week and enjoy it Simon Neilsen has being going well in recent weeks but he has had an illness hopefully he has recovered from that Edited August 6, 2015 by dantodan

HadrianDog
Both Tero and Richard Hall scored heavily in guest appearances tonight with both in double figures, that allied with the withdrawal of Ryan Douglas with a leg injury may give the lads a glimmer down at Scunny . Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed. A meeting very much in the balance, I would say, and one that could go either way. Here's hoping for a cracking night of speedway (nearly always the case at the EWR), and for all the riders to come out of it in one piece. Weather forecast for tonight looks good. thebaron
Och! this hurts cannot believe Ryans rotten luck last night get well soon fella. Was not there; how did it happen; because if again a rider ends up under the air fence ? then we want to seriously look again at these fences. Looks a let down of a night for Holub; but you cannot judge him on one meeting. Only thing I might do different was let him ride at home first; as you get the bounce on the crowd from the initial interest in him. Ce la vie thats done so on to tonight. Suppose we will be r/r now for Ryan. This season (and not just for Scunny) has been a nightmare tbh. Rob and the team really dont deserve this; you make the efforts to change things and then another man down ! I see in this weeks Star Editor Philip Rising is rallying us all to come together over the winter in making some defining change to help the British Speedway scence. I can see already he is supporting some of the ideas I have long since put forward. Next year (whether Scorps make it to the tapes or not) we have to be brave and make some defining decisions. About rider safety; machinery and tracks; about promotion and marketing; about league, competition and team structure; about costs and revenues. It seems a turning point is sign posted up ahead and British speedway needs to ensure it does not end up down the wrong one to a cul-de-sac. Right now though got to get up for tonight; we need to show support to Rob and the team. It looks like a great day for some speedway and lets have a safe and exciting nights action. Come on you Scorps ! Edited August 7, 2015 by the outsider

I think with so many tracks in a similar boat, there may be a real will to do something this time. 2015 has been one of speedway's worst-ever seasons; there seems to be an air of doom and gloom nearly everywhere. Having said that, the last two meetings at the EWR (Peterborough and Ipswich) saw the place brought back alive. Fingers crossed tonight for another improved crowd, and another electric meeting that sends all the supporters away begging for more. lucifer sam
The Star do it every year - and few changes are made (and most if none are important changes). I think there might be a real will between promoters for change this time, though. The sport cannot go on as it is - otherwise British Speedway will be extinct within a decade. I suspect the lower divisions will have to go part time to survive. One bike hanging off the back of Citroen Safari might be the image seen up and down the highways of the UK.
