Lakeside V Coventry

Recommended Posts

Sarjeant is very low on confidence at the moment and has struggled for form since his injury. Sad to see

Nice to see Chris talking to Sarjeant to give him some confidence and coax him along.......unlike the Coventry pair of team managers.( I don't think we want to see Havvy sticking his tong out at the camera)

I for one think the lad needs a good mentor to get him round his rough spots. We need young lads to keep British speedway going.

Congratulations to both teams on a great meeting.

I would have took a point once Robson withdrew and with King having one of his worst nights yet, so really happy to get the draw and 2 more points on the table.

Jason Garrity & AJ riders of the night for me

Sad to see Roynon get injured again 😞

Have to say that's the best meeting I've seen for a while on Sky. Well done all for the entertainment.

Agreed, why though doesnt the bspa get sky to display all the weeks' fixtures during the 'summing up' at the end of the programme?

Just maybe someone watching near a speedway track with a 'vague idea' of their local team and what the sport is, might be tempted to go along after watching the racing on the tv??

Lots of 'play off' impacting meetings this week and none at all mentioned in any detail...

I've often said that Lakeside comes across badly on tele. But tonight was great speedway.

We had fairly decent racing, we had a close score, a result decided in the last few metres. We had Garrity being Garrity. Roynons last ride deserves a mention too. And best of all Kennett bottling yet another heat 15. It's just a shame we didn't have a fight between Varcher and Laurence Rogers or we'd have had it all.

If all speedway was like that he soort would be in great shape. It was so good I can even cope with the fact the Bees threw away a league point.

Also, 3 Bees riders have failed to beat an opponent in heat 15. All heat leaders (not counting Robbo tonight)

Like them or loathe them coventrys 2 reserves are Liberty takers at the starts

One day the referees might just pick up on it and put their foots down, and when the referees sumit a report something should be done !!

Injuries aside, that was the best advert for elite league Speedway I've seen on TV this year. Glad both teams came away with points, ok mainly because I want Coventry to score as little as possible ;p but also because both teams deserved to take something away from that meeting. Really good racing

Can more than one rider end up off 15 metres in the same race? For example, ht 2, blue gets exc for tapes, goes off 15 metres, in the restaging, white touches tapes, gets exc and also has to go off 15 metres and then yellow/black touches tapes and also gets to go off 15 metres..... Is this possible, and has it ever happened in any British League???

Yes it can. I've seen it happen with 2 riders a couple of times.

It happened at Poole a few years back against Reading. Not sure which heat it was but Mark Lemon touched the tapes and went back 15 metres. In the re run the other Reading rider (it may have been Zdenek Simota, but not 100% sure) touched the tapes and the referee then decided to exclude Mark Lemon and the other rider went off 15 metres.

Just checked this and it was Simota and Lemon In heat 2 on 16/08/2006.

Lemon touched the tapes and went back 15 metres, then Simota went through the tapes in the re run.

Simota then went off 15 metres and Lemon was excluded.

Tight home win, with Bees getting a consultation point..... :t:

Was there a Doctor in the house? I don't have Sky so haven't watched the meeting but from comments it sounds like it was a good one. Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured riders.

In 2000 at Newport. Vs Newcastle. Would have been heat 8 both Craig Taylor and Christian Henry started form 15 metres.

Rules allow for riders, from opposing teams to start from 15 metres. But if a second rider from a team with a rider already 15 metres back touching the tapes, the 2nd one is excluded (or replaced by a reserve)

Superb meeting. A great advert for Lakeside Speedway Club.

Result-wise, I couldn't really ask for more. We were not an embarrassment in front of the Sky cameras; the track provided close racing and overtaking; the result was a fair one for both teams; we didn't lose and Coventry gained a useful 2 away points to consolidate their (worthy) position at the top of the table.

Only downside was injury to riders. Here's clearly hoping they recover as quickly as possible.
