remembertheracers
Do the local press and internet media not have the b....s to start asking questions on this? hagonshocker
grachan they are not building houses inside the stadium area yet, they have knocked down the old away pits to put a drain through. If you turn up one week and there is a house on the centre green you can start panicking then. Lol mate! Think Grach is seeing things!...stop worrying everyone pretty certain we will see this season out and probably most of next season with maybe a quick hop over to the new Stadium by about June!...maybe we can hire Goodenough while the SWC is on... Yeah, I'm seeing things. Houses. On bend 4. If they aren't in the stadium grounds then they're pretty damn close. It certainly looked to me like they were where the old route to the pits was, down from behind the main stand. Am I the only person who finds that a bit of a concern? They are going to build houses over the current stadium. They are building houses now, which will need to encroach on to where the stadium is. Yet there is no new stadium being built. What will happen? Will they suddenly just stop building these houses now, until the stadium is built? I certainly hope so, but if you were a house building company, would you wait? This has to be concern now, because the new stadium i conspicuous by its absence.

It is M.P.'s job to act on their constituents wants, hound them till they listen! The problem is Clark Osborne is an old hand at this. He appears in the papers every few months with a pretty looking plan for the new stadium and says work will start "soon", just a few more hurdles. The local MP gives reassurances to fans, but ignores the fact that these housing developers regularly run rings around politicians and councils. The local rag is pathetic. There are far juicier corruptions stories in Swindon that they ignore. Why would they upset anyone in a position of power by asking pressing questions about this development?

hagonshocker
Terry Russell said in January that this would be Swindon,s last season at the Abbey Yes and they also said the new Stadium was going to completed in time for next season but it clearly seems to not be the case..also gone very quiet on the supposed ''farewell to the old Lady'' end of season meeting Funny that, we have a simular bloke down here, does the same thing... Yeah i know he's a chancer but hasn't quite managed to butter enough councilors just yet!
DunRobin
I think that I have as much chance of winning the lottery as seeing a new stadium & I don't do the lottery! If we get a new stadium, we can rename ourselves the "Fling Pigs"! When the new stadium was mooted without a speedway track, the supporters club raised a big hoo ha & got the plans altered but they now seem to have gone quiet & I believe that they will now regret this.
Gemini
Must admit I do find it strange why anyone would consider buying a new house next to a Speedway track so I'm joining the 'Pessimistic' list.
Aces51
If the houses are now for sale it needs someone to go along as a prospective purchaser and say they are interested but not with a motor sport stadium close by. Be interesting to see what they are told. Unfortunately, there is going to be a new stadium built that will include speedway or, the Speedway Stadium is going to be demolished and that will be the end of the noise problem.
Crazy robin
I wouldn't mind buying a house next to a place where it operates at most once a week for 7 months. Don't see what all the fuss is about on that one but the way housing developments get put up without giving Jack all to the community is down to dodgy politicians😡😡
Chalkie
If we are going to have a new stadium can we have one with a roof, please? Then I can get my fortnightly fix of speedway without having to sit looking out of the window with no rain and no match in prospect because we might get some later!
britmet
I have no idea if it was the same at Reading but the local MP told me there is a legal requirement in place that the new stadium must be built. Original planning permission for the site was turned down as no stadium was included. No doubt there will be loopholes to get around it but anyone buying a house up there can see the plans which clearly show the stadium on it. The mother in law was looking. But until the building begins I won't believe anything. . i) There may be a requirement for a new stadium to be built, but if that's the requirement it doesn't stipulate that said stadium has to run speedway. Lay turf, . . pay football, . . and the req't is satisfied. . ii) There may well be a covenant in place, but there have been many instances, after the passage of say, 5 - 10 years or so, that covenants have been changed / revoked. . I think some people lose interest if there isn't weekly racing, others probably couldn't afford a weekly speedway fix, and like football and rugby attend fortnightly. Forecast wrong yet again...and would have been on if Sky were present.
