remembertheracers
On my visits to Blunsdon I've noticed the houses are going up but see no sign of work starting on the proposed new stadium? It had been reported work would start in May, but unless locals can advise otherwise I see no signs of it. Given Gaming International's record, in their many guises over the years, and their record at Reading I fear for the future. So no chance of it being up and ready for March 2016 surely? If the BAGS meetings were switched to Poole, the current (Sh)Abbey Stadium would be unviable. The owners could then close it, sit for a few years and build even more.houses. Be very afraid Swindon fans given the owners previous record. Clarke Osbourne must be nearly 70 now, another factor?

But if the houses go up first, and there are objections to the proposal for a new SPEEDWAY Stadium, i very much doubt Swindon will get back in. And that would apply to any club in the league, which would be a great shame. Sadly, its the World we now live in.. I have no idea if it was the same at Reading but the local MP told me there is a legal requirement in place that the new stadium must be built. Original planning permission for the site was turned down as no stadium was included. No doubt there will be loopholes to get around it but anyone buying a house up there can see the plans which clearly show the stadium on it. The mother in law was looking. But until the building begins I won't believe anything.

That's not entirely true about Canterbury though, is it? Fair enough, a certain local resident did his level best to get the club closed over many seasons without success.....but the downfall of the Crusaders was more about naievity from the promotion regarding renewal of their planning permission for the 1988 season, and sponsorship money being used for purposes other than intended......allegedly !! Maybe maybe not, but that one person did an awful lot of damage. I would hate to see that happen to Swindon. Perhap something can be legally written in. IF the plans clearly show the Stadium.. MattK
I have no idea if it was the same at Reading but the local MP told me there is a legal requirement in place that the new stadium must be built. The requirement is that no more than 200 houses can be occupied "until a contract for the construction of the New Stadium has been entered into". The problem I see with this is that I'm sure Stadia UK can find a friendly builder who they can "enter into a contract with" safe in the knowledge that no work will ever be forthcoming. Secondly, would the council want to enter an expensive and elongated legal battle while houses are sat empty?
Phil The Ace
It was never going to be a quick build. Look at at our stadium. Took us 8 years
New Science
It was never going to be a quick build. Look at at our stadium. Took us 8 yearsThe worry is that I read a quote that this year would be Swindon's last at the Abbey.Swindon can't afford an 8 year wait. With Lakeside and Coventry having issues with their stadiums its a bit worrying for the Elite League.

Yeah, one person did an awful lot of damage at Romford too, and now of course we have that one family at Mildenhall causing mayhem.
A ORLOV
It does seem to be the situation that even if you could impose conditions about noise on a house purchaser the law is stupid and will listen to someone complaining about noise even if what creates the noise was already there.
mickthemuppet
My tennis club has got permission to build houses on part of its land . One of the conditions is that the new tennis courts should be finished before the houses are occupied. These conditions should have on Swindon's new track as well , then the builders cannot wriggle out of it.
Crazy robin
Builders & politicians come a close 3rd behind bankers on trust in what they say. I think we have plenty to worry about sadly as things have gone so quiet.

It is currently (Sh)Abbey Stadium, cant pass health and safey for long surely?

Could be the end for Swindon speedway if the new stadium is not built...drive past every day and will let you know if a wheelbarrow appears on the car park! Funny that, not.. Thats why Swindon need to get in before the houses are occupied. Otherwise they will have a huge fight on their hands. OveFundinFan
If its in an legal agreement then the Swindon stadium must be built. Re the houses. It should be in the agreement to any would be purchaser of the houses that there is going to be a speedway stadium "next door" to you and that X times a year during the months of a-b there will be noise, this is expected, and the purchaser agrees to this or they cant purchase the property. Seems logic to me, but there again it probably has no chance of things going that way. Would be a shame to loose Swindon, its been there so long, and there it was tucked out of the way at a relatively quiet Blunsdon, which has now developed somewhat and continues to do so. stratton
Read post number 12. The above does not work. 'A ORLOV is that right that the old stadium cannot be touched until the new one is built.?if so that is great news.Because next year surely we will still be racing at the Abbey in March, also is this correct in the deeds from 1949 i have heard in law there has to be a sporting activivity on those grounds?.Ruling out our worst fears that the speedway/dogs would be skanked and left out to dry i hope this is true.
