Berwick V Rye House Sat 25th Koc Q/f 2nd Leg

Recommended Posts

I know how the Berwick fans are feeling.

Around the same time in 2013 our then Promoter Neil Machin announced that our speedway team at Sheffield was up for sale.

With the club fighting off the wooden spoon, and the crowds falling alarming like Berwick fans I too was feeling as thought that I would lose my speedway team, and if that would have happened then I could not see us ever returning.

I would say that at the time our situation was bleaker than the one that Berwick find themselves in at the moment.

Fast forward to 2014, and we did have someone come in and take the club on, crowds went up even though we had a team that was cobbled together at the minute and again we just missed the wooden spoon, but the fans could see that the new Promotion were working hard to make improvements.

2015, the Promotion have had no luck again with injuries, but in saying that we have made the League Cup Semi Final and we look in a very strong position for a Play Off place, and crowds appear to be still bucking the trend and not gone down.

If it can happen for us why not Berwick, the one thing that needs to happen is that the clubs Promotion and fans need to come together and work together.

The main thing to gleam from the statement issued is that the club either needs investment from another source be that either joining forces with the present Promotion or to buy the club outright.

Keep the faith Bandit fans.

The only regret I have is Dick Barrie wasn't in attendance. After years of being the victim I'd have taken great pleasure in ripping the pi$$ out of him. Ahh well, there's always the league meeting in September.

presentation was catapulted 40 years forward without him there

I like Steve, he DJ'd at my youngest sons after christening party recently. He's very good

I will say this for Dick Barrie, he has an absolute wealth of speedway knowledge, but I also like the way Steve went about the interviews on Saturday night. I wish there were more of that sort of thing between races, to keep the crowd involved. I did e-mail the club with this as a suggestion, but was told there was a problem with 4g signals. But Steve did well to interview TJ and the Rye House presenter and during matches I would like to hear the views of riders and managers.

I do think Steve was left high and dry at times last week as there were absences of music at times and with Berwick being so dire and a very small and unhappy crowd to work with he had his work cut out.

Somehow if you could combine Dick's knowledge with Steve's presenting style you could have a good combination. Perhaps one does the interviews and one the general talking / heat results kind of thing, take the heat off a single presenter?

Maybe its time to give Steve Haywood a run of meetings to bring his own style to a Saturday nights presentation.

That was tried last year or the year before and Steve I believe did not enjoy it, due to his lack of knowledge was left 'dry' on numerous occasions

Dick Barrie has his critics, mostly from the idiots that moan about anything concerning Berwick Speedway. But he is Bandits through and through and comes with a wealth of experience, most of his comments are with tongue in cheek and should I believe be taken as such

Fair enough, but Steve has now been doing the announcing from the box a while now and also did some as you say last year after Mr. Barrie announced his pending retirement, so has some experience now and it sounds like he did a decent job last Saturday.

Point taken, in my opinion it takes a lot of background knowledge and rider/rules/speedway history knowledge to be effective on the centre green,

What makes you comment on the music? There were no gaps in the flow from where I was sitting?

Music all the time, other than when Dennis or Steve were talking or the racing was on.

if you like seventies style presenting then dicks your man !!

Berwick a presentation is stuck in the past

so there was no problem with 4g signals on Saturday then ?

Or did the person answering the email (probably crescent Girl himself) not want to do any interviews during the meeting ?

Alright if you're a Jock Strap and you can understand a single word McDick utters and when you do catch something he says it is usually something derogatory about the home team he is visiting !!!

From what I remember about the e-mail (sorry, it was a while back now) the only place it was possible to interview people was close to the tapes, which was where the interviews were done on Saturday. I can only imagine that some riders would not want to come on to the centre green mid-meeting if they are working on bikes etc. I can remember in the e-mail that he did say that he would love to do more interviews but couldn't (because of the 4g problem).

It's a braw licht, moonlicht, nicht, the nicht (only Jock Straps will understand this). As for derogatory remarks, everything he says is tongue in cheek. You get it at most tracks. Peter Waite used to get absolutely slated by the Edinburgh presenter when he was getting interviewed. He had the best possible response, he'd laugh it off.

Topsoil's memory is first-class. After the 4G coverage came in for the area, the already-limited range the radio mike could be used got even less. Interviews with that mike can only be done on the infield, and it is nigh-on impossible to get riders to come out and do interviews during racing.

The club has very recently been given use of an improved microphone system (which was not there on Saturday) which might hopefully improve the range after some sound tests.

And yes, as Topsoil reports the club would love to have been able to do interviews from the pits area for years, but up until now this has been impossible for technical reasons.

I've got my tin helmet on here ready for the backlash. But i really don't get all the DB bashing at times. Yes, i've cringed a few times over the years at his comments on the mic. But to be honest, i'm usually too busy yapping to my pals, to pay much attention to what he's saying unless it's after an incident.

As i've stated before, i work weekends now and don't get down to Berwick much anymore sadly. But, when i was down for the Sky meeting versus Peterborough the other week, i always walk along to the pit gate via the home straight stand. Just for a nosey as you can't get in now like before, and to see any pals on the way. On my way back towards the 1st bend, i saw Dick Barrie and he shook my hand and said, "great to see you back Marty".

I joked that i wished all meetings were midweek, or just on my days off these days. He laughed and off he went to the pits before presentation time.

That meant a lot to me though. It's nice to know i'm not seen as a stay away fan, even with a 180 odd mile round trip jaunt for home meetings after a days work.

I just hope my team pulls through this dip we're in at the moment. Everything's crossed....

steve was testing the new improved radio mike before the Edinburgh match it worked in the pits well however once it was moved nearer to pits gate it did not

Work in progress though.

All efforts are made to improve presentation despite others thinking they are not

Who was doing the box announcing? I thought he and the centre green chap were very good and worked well together. Like I said earlier with being away this was my first visit to Berwick for a time. Where was D Barrie?

Oh, I think we both know that the chap in the box was the man who did the announcing before Dick came to Berwick.
