Berwick V Edinburgh Sat 18th

Recommended Posts

Thats the hard bit for the team at the moment though both finishing in front off the other away rider thus conceding heat advantages and losing matches at home. With a good guest it should be close match could go either way IMO .

We managed to finish in front of the home riders plenty of times at Rye.

Certainly didn't expect that.

I now firmly believe that anything is possible in speedway.

Tough meeting against the Capital Monarchs, but should be a good one!

By the same token we did not finish in front of away riders at Home to Ipswich and Peterborough.Did you expect that.I think we should be able to beat Monarchs but we have riders that are far too inconsistant at their Home track IMO .

Exactly my point.

The unpredictability of the sport can be both infuriating and elating!

Yeah but not everybody sees it that way unfortunately, don't think crowds this season have been as good as recent seasons, but your are not supposed to say on a Berwick thread or your seen as whinging,as long as you enjoy your night out that's all that matters.

Not sure what you mean by that, however, I do meet more people in person who enjoy speedway than there are on here moaning.

So, I guess this place is not representative of the hundreds who do still turn up on a Saturday.

I met two Wolves fans at Rye who had actually been at Berwick on Saturday, they were full of praise for the club.

Of course, we all know crowds need to be better. Constantly making observations that crowds are too low isn't going to do anything about it, though.

What is really strange, IMO, is that some soi disant fans seem to almost gloat about small crowds. Very peculiar behaviour.

If us fans want the sport to survive, we need to bring other folk along.

Spending money on further advertising and marketing will only put clubs further into the red and accelerate their demise.

That is the fact of the matter.

If we really care about THE SPORT, then that is the only realistic course of action at the moment: like it or not.

This is all IMO.

Another load of BigEd spin only IMO

What do you mean spin?

Spin on what?

If you can count, you should be able to make a rough estimate of how many post on here, and how many go on a Saturday.

Even at the extremes: 20 on here, 200 on a Saturday.

Doesn't take much gumption, IMO.

This is completely correct, a lot of stuff on this forum is completely different to what is said at the track on a Saturday night, their is under 40 Berwick fans on this forum and at least 10/15 don't go everyweek, it just shows

I don't see the crowds returning to Speedway in the long term...

In an ideal world two leagues with a different race nights. 1st League benefitting guys like Janowski,Iverson Ward and Holder

If a few clubs dropped out more riders to go around... Maybe see if the top boys really would bother with the UK if a squad system was in place.

That isn't going to happen...And actually there is plus points to racing every night of the week but too many blank spaces in team line ups excluding injuries which are part and parcel of the Sport.

What I'd like to see happen is Speedway be run by an independent body. Maybe a few things would change...

EL is Poole and PL is Edinburgh and Somerset this is not exciting we need teams who can challenge (Glasgow excluded) not teams who can't compete...

For example Redcar under Havelock who seem to start the season off. See how the team do and make a change... Redcar dropped Smith for Konopka and up until we went there were holding there own. Argubly Redcar have now made changes and look competitive... Maybe the money made from a Pre Season transfer was invested. But fans at least want a competitive side from the off, no point starting to perform in May or June

The Sport doesn't quite seem quite as good across the board and that goes for not just for the UK. But every once in a while you see a cracking race or better still meeting that takes your breath away. Maybe that's just me but bearing in mind a lot of my spare time is spent watching Polish Swedish and Continental Speedway it does seem too have tailed off since say 2011...

As for the Bandits... Barker dropping from 9points to 7.5 is a problem. However Jorgenson and Doolan have stepped up and Garcia is a talent for next year...

I'm presuming Jorgenson would like to return Doolan and Vissing would be a good Top 3 for next year if we run

Play offs will be a tough ask, and if Somerset come here fully fit I think they will win presuming Brady Kurtz rides to form.

Speedway is a business and if people are not turning up, then it wont continue.

Saturday looks an interesting contest and I'd love to see us get one over Edinburgh

You're definitely like a fine wine, Robin.

Good post, enjoyed reading it, and can't disagree with any of it.

From e-Newsletter this afternoon:

ROHAN'S OUR GUEST: Following his sparkling display last Saturday, when his points very much assisted the Witches in their last-race victory over our Dixon Building Bandits, Australian Rohan Tungate turned his coat on Sunday to be our guest at Rye House, when his points in black-and-gold very much helped us to the creditable six-point away victory over the Rockets!

With these two sparkling displays in mind, Rohan was an obvious choice to ride as our guest in a slightly-changed line-up this Saturday (he will wear No 1 in place of Claus Vissing, with new man Mathias Thornblom at No 3).

Edinburgh will arrive without Sam Masters, who has a hand injury, replacing him with Richie Worrall.

New Swede looks the part par with Lahti probably has the edge, I'm impressed

I don't know much about him, but glad that you think he is a good signing.

What do you think he is capable of achieving?

Honest question as I know you follow European speedway.

The GP heat that you have posted is against 3 EL heat leader quality riders, one ride when everyone else was on their fourth, also 2 years ago.

Kind of difficult to draw any conclusions about that: well, not about the rider, at least.

Although, you might be saying he is of comparable standard to that of Lamber and Garrity. So, I apologise if that was your intention.

Well from the 5 races I've seen on Youtube he's at the back in 4 of the 5 but 2nd in the last one beating rohan behind smoli....

Not the quickest trapper it would seem, looks woeful at Lonigo, Howarth beat him by good distance...

That being said good scores in Sweden I'll do more viewing and scrutinise his youtube racing history

But to answer your question Scott, I would say in between 6 and 7 probably closer to 7 but you never know
