Hi,

Can anyone please let me have heat details of this league match ?

It's missing from the 1976 complete season file on the Speedway Researcher website and the yearbook doesn't give the number of rides taken.

Many thanks.

It's me that's responsible for this oversight !

Myself and a friend prepare the whole season files (from 1965) on the researcher website.

I normally check for missing matches and this meeting "slipped the net".

I will post the details shortly and of course update the Season file on the website.

"(Programme note by me: Ashby team rode)" a lost art today !

Many thanks for the reply (sadly my team, at the time, lost but that's they way it goes)

One question though, who was the second Racer in heat 10 ? You have Andersson replacing Hunter but list Hunter as 4th (with 3 Robins in the heat). I think it should have been Bob Humphreys.

Won with Reading in 1973 too. He was in the Swindon side during my first season watching in 1974.

Bit of a TIP!!! i went there alot and i really enjoyed the racing the shape was decent and racing great unless it was a dust bowl slick.I remember in 1980 when Reading were champions, i went there and the Robins won i can remember there being a massive scuffle with Briggo and Steve Gresham. This after Tony Briggs was brought down by Milan Spinka, Gresh got the blame great days they were. I went to Smallmead quite often in those days, saw Gresham a lot especially in his Bulldog days at Eastville...

He was hated by the Swindon fans until he and Phil Crump moved up the road after the death of Bristol Speedway, such a shame that speedway died in Bristol - they used to have the biggest crowds in the country by some distance (even when racing on the dog track)...

I only went to Bristol twice, the first meeting the big Daily Mirror meeting ( the track was sandy) and against Swindon both had brilliant gates the Mirror meeting had a huge crowd.
