Should find out what's in store for next season next week...

With the BSPA AGM starting next Saturday, the 17th October, The Vortex Hammers are inviting all supporters to a Fans Gathering in The Pavilion at the Orsett Hall Hotel on Thursday the 15th of October, starting at 8pm.

The club will update fans first on the evening, with a statement to follow thereafter on our website.

Hammers Co-Promoter Jon Cook commented As club owner Stuart Douglas has already said, talks are continuing and will do so right up until the AGM and it is totally correct that our fans are updated first with the facts and current situation, ahead of us informing our fellow Elite League members. We look forward to a full and frank discussion on Thursday when all questions will be answered about the clubs short and long term future and league membership.

Today is the long awaited day where we find out the status of the clubs immediate future, the fact there is a fans meeting does fill me with hope that something has been worked out, no one would surely hold a meeting just to tell a couple hundred of fans that sorry this is the end, would they?

At this point I don't care which league Hammers opt into just so long as they keep a foot in the door.

Always enjoyed my visits to Lakeside - hope the news is good news for the club & fans

I know there appears to be concerns about the continuation of speedway for Lakeside Hammers at Arena Essex from 2016, but as I understand it fixture plans for small oval car racing next year are well advanced. Why the doubts surrounding speedway?

I've moaned and complained a lot of about Lakeside/Arena Essex over the years but in recent times (the Douglas/Cook era) I have a new found fondness for the place. It still a bit flawed, still a bit rubbish but as a club they seem to make the best of what they have no race night. It would be a bloody shame if we lost Lakeside/Arena Essex. So I have my fingers crossed that nights forum/meeting brings good news.

It's possible you have just answered your own question, its possibly the car racing aspect that is the potential stumbling block if as i have heard and read elsewhere that Friday night being prime time slot is wanted by more than just the speedway which could force either a change of race night or result in a higher premium to use the same Friday race night and either would then bring the thorny topic of viability into question.

Really enjoyed my trips down from Manchester to the Arena Essex Raceway over the last couple of seasons, so for both selfish reasons & for the loyal band of Lakeside fans, hoping it's good news from the Hammers fans forum tonight.
